The days are as exhausting as they get. Who knew that village life was this dreadful? Rosette has to get up early to watch the chickens, make breakfast, open her clinic, open her night market, set up her vegetable garden, take care of her herbal garden, then write her schedule for tomorrow.
She didn't understand how people could make their days so energetic. Whenever she was out she saw smiles on their faces, laughing, hugging, dancing, and even crying. Some emotions she wishes she could also express, but who was she to wish, when she was none other than a fairy of royalty.
Rosette as in Rosabella Frichard, the last noble daughter of the Frichard royal family from the kingdom of Jaden. A small kingdom that was conquered by the dark Jade knights five months ago. Even when she was royalty, she was also an illegitimate child and an outcast.
Treated miserably her whole life, Rosabell escaped her so-called family and began her new life as Rosette Qain, a herbologist from a faraway land who treats sickness and wounds. Her magic was to be kept a secret from her family and the village, her identity was changed not based on her name but also her appearance.
Even though Rosette shows the youth of a seventeen-year-old, her age is hundreds, all because she is a fairy with an adult mind.
One day she woke up early only to get food from the market since the chicken had died laying no eggs. Her hair was tied into braids, her attire was not much and with her, she carried a small basket with some money.
There were no crowds in the mornings, it wasn't noisy and not many people were awake for shopping. Rosette found this ideal since she was craving for a peaceful morning walk. Her days at the castle were always loud, with her father screaming at her for her birth, her siblings tormenting her because of her mother, her servants mistreating her for fun, and the commoners making hurtful songs about her because of the rumors.
It was hell for Rosette that she had to stay in her bedroom for a year to get some peace but she couldn't. She couldn't stop their voices and she couldn't stop the abuse.
Her last stop was the butcher's place for meat, Hendrick the butcher always gave Rosette a free discount for his meat since they agreed to give each other a discount for their business. "Well looky here, if it isn't the village's famous herbologist, well miss Rosy what can I get you?", Hendrick asked as he knew what Rosette was going to say.
"Two stacks of fresh sheep meat". She said without blinking.
Hendrick with his humming smile wrapped the meat and handed it to Rosette while she gave him the money. An easy exchange we could tell but there was a certain twist to this conversation.
"You know dear Rosy", Hendrick's voice changed to a warning, "I got a notice from a traveler that Heartwarth has been captur_, no, destroyed, Both armies have perished but the general's body was nowhere to be found. I hope our little fairy is safe in her cottage".
Hendrick the butcher knew about Rosette's past, he wasn't an idiot to not have figured out her magic, nor he was an enemy to her, he was just a harmless butcher with muscles like bears and skills like merchants.
Rosette didn't blink at him, and neither did she show any emotions, she knew where she could get her information and she found it. "Good day, Mr. Kollan".
She said her farewell and left the shop. Her mind had so many questions about the information, Was Haleen dead? Did the general survive? What happened in Heartwarth that made both armies perish?
Her mind was lost in thought that she didn't knew where she was going. She was so lost in her world that she forgot she was getting late for her clinic.
"Just apply this cream to the rash so that it doesn't spread, and avoid touching it, or else the effects of the medicine will reduce. Visit after a week for a re-checkup". Rosette had finished her checkup with her last patient of the day.
She was beyond tired that she wanted to scream her retirement but she was also beyond that age. Three hundred and sixty-two was no age for a human, but for a fairy, it was just about seventeen.
Finally, it was the last stage of her routine, writing her schedule for tomorrow. She sat on a small desk and opened her journal, with a pen she dipped it in the ink and started writing her plan, the timings, the locations, and finally listing her medical herbs.
Just as she was about to write her herbs, a loud sound was heard that made her flinched. The sound was starting to get louder and louder with each second and it made Rosette realize that she was afraid, terrified, and scared.
Without wasting time, she reached out for her blade, dimmed the candles, grabbed the poison powder from her shelf, and hid behind her desk.
After a minute, the banging sound became lighter and drifter. And finally, a voice was heard. "IS SOMEONE IN THERE! I'M IN PAIN!".
Crying for help, Rosette thought as she quickly ran towards the window to see a soldier, massive in size, blood dripping from his upper abdomen. His face was getting darker by each time and only then Rosette realized that this man was a fairy.
She wanted to open the door, she really did, but something stopped her, the armor of the soldier was no ordinary. In fact, it was made up of high-carbon steel, the only steel that the Dark Jade army was allowed to wear. Then something in Rosette triggered when she saw the medal that was attached to the armor. The silver medal is the general's accomplishment. She read as a child. Holy fairy of dawn, this man was the bloody general of the Dark Jade fairies. Mathias Wager.
