When Rosette thought that the universe was playing her, she believed it.
"What are you doing here?" Rosette asked him with pulling courage. She had no idea what had come over her, but she knew one thing: This beautiful boy was and is trespassing on her property.
On the other hand, Roven raised his eyebrow at her as he crossed his arms. He acted as if he were the man of the house, which he was not, but whatever his aura was, it was far superior to Rosette's. She needed a diversion, fast.
But it was too late, Roven's jade eyes landed on Mathias. Rosette watched as his pupils constricted at the sight. "What's going on?", he demanded, "Why the hell is General Wager lying like someone killed him".
"Umm," Rosette tried to answer his question with full confidence. She needed to devise an excuse, so she thought of one: "It's side effects of Haleen's curse."
Roven brushed her off while she spoke. He couldn't believe what he was hearing. "Explain in detail."
"So, when I first found General Wager, I noticed that his healing capacity had decreased", God she didn't know what she was saying, "And sometimes he suffered certain side effects such as dizziness, muscle pain, headaches and right now a newly discover, faintness".
Some part of the misinformation was not fabricated, Mathias did suffer these symptoms and it was all thanks to Haleen. Rosette was sure this was enough for Roven to believe in her, she did technically save his friend's life.
He looked back at her stroking his black hair. "That disgusting witch", he finally spouts some words that give Rosette some relief. "Yeah", she encouraged him, "That stupid good-for-nothing shitty witch", she said.
"How could she do this to him", Roven's voice almost cracked into tears.
"How could she, I mean when I was stitching General Wager's wounds and,.. and", she cut off for dramatic effect, "And he was left with huge scars, he bled heavily and the tears in his eyes when he heard his entire army perished". Fake tears took control of Rosette's eyes, she needed to fake cry so that she could escape from her fake explanation.
Roven tried to confront her by patting her back, he didn't need to wear glasses to see through Rosette's fake crying, but something about her words made him suspicious of her. How did she know that the army perished with Haleen? Word hasn't spread through this village.
"Mathias suffered a lot", he said, "He put his life in danger for the glory of our kingdom, now it's our job to help him".
"Say what now", she said speedly.
"We should help our friend recover his strength so that he can please our king", he curled his arm around her.
"We?".
"We should sacrifice our precious time and accomplish any hardship that tries to overcome our mission".
"Our?".
"Yes. Our".
"But why include me?". She asked as she pointed at herself.
"Because", Roven responded, "I don't want to fix his shit alone. I need someone else to suffer with me".
"Wait", Rosette finally had the chance to speak, "General Wager is your friend, therefore your problem. I tried to help him but my efforts were in vain, maybe it's best if your people take care of him".
Mathias wasn't an easy patient to handle. Whenever he got a chance to show off his talent, he would do so, but in Rosette's eyes, it was just looking troublesome. She wanted Mathias to see himself as a patient, but his pride always got the best of him, and this was enough to make her irritated by him.
She had mixed feelings when Roven first showed up. She thought Mathias wasn't her problem, but she was wrong.
"I don't think you understand the problem here", Roven's words brought shocking shivers. For the first time in five months, Rosette was confused, wasn't Mathias the King of Jade's problem?
"What Mathias is suffering right now is considered a disgrace to our nation", Roven continued, "Our king is glorious and admirable, but he sees us as match sticks, if one loses its flames, it rots nothing to ashes. Right now Mathias's job is on the line, If Waren the first were to find out about his condition, you won't hear General Wager's name on oath of omens".
So it was survival for attention, the thought of losing a title was enough for a fairy to go insane. Losing a title means stripping your wings off, and for faires, wings were everything. Rosette didn't budge to see Mathias's wings but she knew by the title he held, that his wings would be huge, having a smooth jade texture, and they would fling by the tiniest of touch, all wings do.
She thought twice before she sighed, "General Wager's symptoms were all derived from Haleen".
"I know that".
"Yes you do, but what you don't know is that Mathias is under a systematic curse, meaning he has mana disorder".
"What the hell are you talking about?", Roven was furious but was completely ignored by Rosette as she exited her garden and went to her study. She glimpsed at the books from the top shelf, her fingers smoothed the touch. Finally, she grabbed a thinned-lined book, pages thorn but the content was still there.
"Hmm, let's see", She turned the pages from right to left, examining every text, "There it is".
Roven behind her was waiting for her answer. "What did you find Goldilocks?".
"The answer to all our problems", she replied.
"That is?".
"Kin flower".
"Kin what now?".
"Kin flower, one that is hard to find and impossible to grow". She said while tearing the page. "It's used for making medicine for mana disability, one spoon and General Wager is back to normal".
The thought about kin flower never crossed Roven's mind, because he didn't know such a flower ever existed. "Hey, Who is the author of the book?", he knew curiosity got the better of him.
"The author, mm, it's... that's strange, I can't find it", Rosette wasn't lying, she, the author's name wasn't mentioned, but she knew who the author was.
"A book with no mention of the author, do you actually want me to believe this". Roven protested.
"What other choice do we have, we have to try for Mathias's sake", Rosette argued because of his statement.
"I'm gonna be honest with you, I don't trust you", straight and forward, "Ever since I first looked at you I knew that you were hiding something".
If something refers to Rosette who is actually Rosebella Frinchard, born into the royal family of Jaden, being an illegitimate child, the last remaining survivor, is an ethereal fairy who can use magic and was supposed to be killed by people of the person in front of her, then yes, It's something.
"Okay, mister, 'I don't trust you'. I'm trying to be helpful. You don't like me. It's fine, but at least I'm making an effort to help Mathias.'
Roven's eyes were in shock when Rosette spoke Mathias's name. From his perspective, Rosette was nothing but a weak human in his eyes, so it was natural for her to respect him, but that wasn't the case.
"Listen here missy, I don't think you're getting the point", He stepped closer, closing his distance, "I want you to come clean. Believe me when I tell you: don't mess with me".
Angered fused in Rosette, her blood was boiling with rage. She had never accounted for such emotions, at least not for the last hundred years. "I don't think I'm dirty", she faced Roven with high courage, a small glimpse of red blood dripping as she clutched her hands to a fist. Her nails dug deep into the skin tearing her flesh apart, and making her feel pain so that she would stop what she was about to do.
"I'm pretty much clean, at least as compared to a street bug". There it was, the fury, the temptation, and the rage. All in one frame, those words were enough for Roven to slap Rosette on the fave, but as he was about to she dug down and pushed him making his body lose balance.
At that moment it was clear to both parties that this was a fight, winner wins, loser dies.
