Chapter 26 - Family Discussions

Leon's POV

Leon walked into his Guide master's study, a small smile playing on his lips as he eagerly recounted his progress. "I think I'm finally getting the hang of sensing others' energies. I can practically feel the intent around me," he said, puffing up his chest with pride. The master leaned back in his chair, a faint smirk tugging at his lips.

"That's good, Leon. But remember, energy isn't just about the physical or the obvious," the master replied. "It's about subtle things, emotions, intentions… things that may not always be what they appear." He eyed Leon with a hint of amusement, knowing that despite Leon's pride, he remained oblivious to the most obvious energy around him: Atlas's growing affection.

Later that evening, back at the family estate, Leon prepared for dinner. His family's behavior felt different, though he couldn't pinpoint exactly what was amiss. His siblings, who typically bickered over dinner, seemed oddly united in their concern for him. Bjorn asked if he'd felt well lately; their mother kept fussing over his plate, making sure he had the lightest, most nourishing dishes. Even the servants seemed unusually watchful, flitting about like protective shadows.

Leon caught his mother's eye as she leaned in to refill his cup. "Is something going on?" he asked. Her smile was gentle but unreadable.

"Just making sure you're well, darling. We wouldn't want you to strain yourself," she said, her tone light but her gaze lingering.

Leon frowned slightly, confused by the extra attention but letting it go. His Guide master's words echoed in his head: "It's the things right in front of you that are hardest to see." Yet, for the life of him, he couldn't figure out what it was he was missing.
