Back in the Mondell estate, life continued with its usual elegance and luxury, but a quiet tension lingered in the air. Leon noticed it in the subtle exchanges between the servants and the sudden increase in protective measures around the estate. Even his parents, who were usually gentle and relaxed, seemed to be on edge, often whispering in private.
Leon, while sipping tea in the sunny courtyard, sensed the change. Though his Guide abilities were still relatively new and undeveloped, he felt the heightened emotions around him—like a ripple beneath calm waters. But rather than alarming him, it stirred his curiosity. Something was happening, and he needed to know what.
Later that afternoon, Leon's Guide mentor, Master Alaric, stopped by for their regular training session. Alaric was a wise, kind man with graying hair and sharp eyes that saw far beyond the surface. Today, however, there was a hint of concern in his usually composed gaze.
"You seem troubled, Master," Leon said, tilting his head with genuine curiosity. "Is there something I should be aware of?"
Alaric hesitated, then shook his head with a small smile. "You're as observant as ever, Leon. Let's just say there are things moving in the world beyond these walls that you need not concern yourself with—at least, not yet."
Leon frowned at the cryptic response. "Does this have anything to do with the increased security in the estate? Or perhaps... the fact that my brother Bjorn has been busier than usual with military matters?"
The old Guide's eyebrows raised, impressed. "You've been paying attention, I see."
Leon gave a small, proud grin. "Of course, I have. I'm not oblivious. Just because I look fragile doesn't mean I'm clueless."
Alaric's expression softened with a touch of pity, though he quickly masked it. "You're not clueless, young Leon, but there are some things you aren't ready to face yet. Your abilities as a Guide are still awakening, and until they fully manifest, it's best for you to focus on your training and your health."
Leon's eyes narrowed. "You're still keeping things from me, Master. I want to help my family... I'm not as weak as everyone thinks."
Alaric sighed, reaching out to place a reassuring hand on Leon's shoulder. "I know you want to be of use, Leon. But for now, trust your family to protect you, just as they always have. Soon, there may be a time when your strength and heart are truly tested."
Before Leon could press further, his mother appeared at the entrance to the courtyard, her serene smile masking whatever stress she carried. "Leon, my dear, come inside. Your father and I have some news to share with you."
