Chapter 21 - The Secret Date

Leon's POV

Leon adjusted the hood of his cloak as he and Atlas made their way through the cobblestone streets of the local village. They had dressed as commoners to avoid recognition, and Leon found it oddly thrilling to walk among the villagers unnoticed. It was a refreshing change from the grandeur and formalities of the dukedom.

Atlas had planned the secret date, suggesting a visit to a charming farm on the outskirts of town, known for its beautiful fields and homemade sweets. As they wandered through the rows of sunflowers, Leon couldn't help but smile at the sight of Atlas, who, despite his usual composed demeanor, looked genuinely carefree in the rustic setting.

"Isn't it nice to get away from everything?" Atlas asked, his hand brushing against Leon's as they walked. The touch sent a shiver down Leon's spine, a strange but pleasant warmth filling him.

"It is," Leon replied, glancing up at the blue sky. "I feel… free here."

As they strolled, they came across a couple of elderly farmers who told them about the upcoming festival happening next month. Leon's eyes lit up with interest at the mention of the celebrations, but a hint of hesitation crept into his expression.

Atlas noticed immediately. "You'd like to go, wouldn't you?" he asked gently.

Leon bit his lip and nodded. "I would, but… I'm not sure if my body will be fit enough that day."

Atlas's brows furrowed slightly, his concern evident. "We'll go if you're feeling well," he promised, "and if not, then I'll make sure to bring the festival to you." His tone was reassuring, but there was a touch of sadness in his eyes, knowing Leon's frail health often kept him from experiencing the joys of life.

Leon's heart swelled at the thoughtfulness in Atlas's words. "That sounds nice," he said softly, his voice trembling slightly. Before he could say more, Atlas leaned in and placed a gentle kiss on his lips.

Leon's eyes widened in surprise, his cheeks flushing a deep red. "Atlas! We're outside!" he whispered, glancing around nervously. But despite his embarrassment, he didn't pull away; instead, he found himself leaning closer to Atlas.

Atlas chuckled softly, his hand finding Leon's and giving it a gentle squeeze. "Does it matter? Out here, we're just two people enjoying a day together."

Leon's heart fluttered at those words, and for a moment, he allowed himself to get lost in the simplicity of it all.
