Chapter 1 - Chapter One

Kale's POV

I walked through the halls avoiding the very judgmental and isolating stares that were sent my way by every single person standing in the halls, I was used to it though. It's the norm at Ever High, everyone stares at Kale Mattyr, yes! Mattyr!, like he's some kind of plague and avoids him like he's shit.

Is this how gay people sent to conversion camps feel? If so, can't blame them for turning out wrong because this feels very isolating and is making me feel bad about myself. You'd think being 6'8 would help you stay as a non-subject to bullying, eye roll.

I sighed deeply putting an end to my thoughts as I got into my seat at the back of the huge auditorium that was our homeroom venue, and yes, when I said auditorium I meant auditorium.

Ever High is a peculiar school known for not only it's quality education but quirkiness, why else would someone like me be able to get in, lol. As I was saying, Ever High isn't quite like your regular high school. Apparently seniority was a real issue back then in the school and one of the few programmes put in place to curb it was having the entire school, and again yes, THE ENTIRE SCHOOL, sit in one auditorium and have homeroom together.

Back to business, I sat on my usual seat right at the back of the auditorium and waited, once more, on my own, for homeroom to begin. Jaw rested lazily on my palm and eyes drooping tiredly, I watched as people walked in through the back entrance glancing at me and whispering to each other before running away. I clicked my tongues at them.

"Cowards" I could only mutter rolling my eyes as the spotlight at the auditorium podium came on signalling that the principal parade was beginning. I stood up together with my fellow students all awaiting the arrival of our gracious head master/mistress, no one really knows their gender.

The school anthem finally ended and the princeps, I call him/her that, gestured for us to take our seats. I sat down as quickly as possible because of course my legs were tired from standing still for the past twenty minutes.

"Good morning, students" princeps began completely losing me from that point, I'm sure you wouldn't want to listen to some boring assembly greeting so I'll just explain our school structure.

Ever High is the third branch of five educational institutions, the first being Ever Elementary, second Ever Middle school, fourth Ever boarding house college and the fifth Ever University. The boarding house college is a mix of middle and high school.

Ever institutions typically pride themselves on the results of their students which are not at all bad, so they basically have really good rep and are very well prestigious, one reason someone like me shouldn't have been able to get in.

Moving back to Ever High's structure, the premises consists of the academic and staff rooms block, block A, the club and recreation block, block B and the administration block, block C all arranged in a triangular format with the school's garden at the centre. The garden is usually the meeting place for people in all kinds of relationship and stuff.

You'd think the auditorium would be a part of the recreation block but it's at the administration block which is the first building you see upon entering the school taking up the rear end of the building. A lobby going through the administrative block's front end extends as a pathway linking all the blocks together.

Bottom line, you can't drive your way into the school so it's one hell of a hell.

"-It would be my honour to learn alongside you all" I jerked back to reality looking around as everyone clapped, I raised a brow wondering what they were clapping about and looked forward only to lock eyes with some girl that looked too porcelain to be real.

Wait, what the actual hell? I'm sitting on the freaking last seat with over a thousand people in front of me, how on earth could she make eye contact with me?!!!.

My thoughts were going haywire as instead of looking away like I normally would, I could only continue staring into her soulless green eyes that seemed to hold more than you could see at surface level. Wait, how do I know her eyes are green, there's over a thousand feet separating us!.

The precious darling, who couldn't be bothered by the fact that she had just caused a complete stranger to have a total mental melt down, simply walked away from the podium not even looking back. I watched feeling somewhat irked and clicked my tongue again.

"Tch, what a snob"

Avory's POV

"Hey! Did you make contact with the target?" Dan called out from the other side of the phone and I couldn't help but roll my eyes bringing my phone away from my ear as I strolled to my assigned class after homeroom.

"Aish, Dan. Don't you know a fucking thing about inside voice? You sound like a fucking banshee" I grumbled clicking my tongue

"Oh whatever, get over it. Did you make contact with the target?" He muttered a hint of desperation in his voice that made me sigh.

"FYFI, he has a personality, you shouldn't always refer to him as 'the target'" I air quoted while saying the last two words

"Oh, so you know his gender, that means you've met him. What do you think is our chance of progress?" Dan asked his voice sounding hopeful.

"Zero" I answered twirling a strand of my long auburn hair in my finger, Dan grunted over the phone "Avy, don't mess with me" he muttered annoyance very palpable in his voice. "Sorry to burst your bubble, but that kid has zero awareness of himself much less others. How exactly is someone like that supposed to be our last hope?" I muttered my deep-rooted frustration showing its stupid little head. Dan seemed to sense this as he sighed speaking more calmly,

"Avy, you more than any other person in the clan should know that the oracle makes its own decisions" he said. I could only sigh

"But if course, after all, I'm the sacrificial lamb!" I retorted, my helplessness not at all concealed, Dan sighed.

"Oh Avy-"

"Dan, don't say anything. I'll call you when school's over" I muttered and with that cut the call stuffing my phone in my pocket. I looked up at the big sliding door in front of me with a gold plate reading 23/24 over the frame. I sighed.

Finally here after the long ass walk I thought placing my hand on the door handle to pull it. At that moment someone else pulled it open from the other side and I was left standing a few inches away from the person who was supposed to be my clan's saviour, the person I was supposedly fated to, our TAEMOON.
