Avery's POV
I and Dan walked through the huge double doors that led to the conference room which was where our present committee. Don't be fooled, our committee isn't the usual group of organized fellows aiming for a particular attainable goal with a head leading them on, 'committee' is just what my quirky group of acquaintances liked to call ourselves. It came along one point during our childhood and since then, it just stuck.
It comprised of just me, Dan and three others, Lee, Jacob and Veronica. Jacob was the second oldest after Dan but looked no more than ten years old, Veronica had a huge crush on Dan and for some reason considered me a threat to her love. I mean, if she's insecure, she could just come out and say it, why throw around stupid conjectures? Finally, Lee was the epitome of quiet, always barely making a sound and usually never blinking. He was creepy, but we loved him that way.
Unsurprisingly, despite being just three in the room, there was plenty of noise in the room.
"Hey y'all, I thought growing up would teach the importance of serenity but alas, age is just a number" Dan muttered feigning pity as he shook his head while sitting down. Veronica and Jacob, the perpetrators of the noise, both turned to glare at him while I giggled settling down in the seat beside Dan.
"Shut up!" Veronica yelled her face turning peach and Dan just lifted his hands in surrender. Veronica huffed folding her arms and looking away.
"Anyway, we're here to discuss Taemoon, my fated? The one who's supposed to save us all?" I pitched in repeating every phrase in a questioning tone as if to remind them. Well I was reminding them as they didn't seem to take all this seriously. "Yeah we know" Veronica snapped at me and I just shrugged
"Just reminding y'all you know" I muttered rolling my eyes. "Yes yes, we understand the urgency of the situation Avory" Jacob said in his ridiculously cute voice and I smiled at him, how I just wanted to pinch his cheeks. I cooed in my mind.
"No it seems you don't understand the urgency leader" Dan said emphasizing on the last word as that was what we used to call him when we were little. We operate a non-government association now though so I'm pretty sure it was meant as a jab.
"The reaper is getting close" Dan added. I unconsciously frowned at this. I always hated when my dad was mentioned, especially by his alias and I was not the only one because the room became silent.
Jacob glared at Dan but didn't say anything to refute him.
"Have they attacked?" He asked and Dan glanced at me nodding. I folded my arms taking a minute to think and I realized, I have no idea whether or not they've been taking info! They're probably level two in that case since I couldn't detect them, but Kale should've been able to. Was he really unaware of the danger? He should've mentioned something about being watched by now otherwise though.
"So basically, we know nothing" Veronica quipped clicking her tongue once she noticed I was taking too long. "Well, I didn't detect anyone so they must be level two" I answered.
My reason for always using level two as an excuse is that in our dimension, which overlapped with that of humans, persons were classified from levels one to ten after which is the demi-god level and finally god level. The highest anyone's ever reached in the history of our world was demi-god level though and even then, this person was capable of splitting the earth in two down to it's core and mending it back. The classification was done by a universal system that was binded to every person from conception. It would take the form of a floating ball of black ooze at a person's birth to reveal the person's potential power level and would only come back if the person managed to make a breakthrough and move up a level.
A level one was only slightly stronger and faster and keener of sight than an average human. A level two on the other hand, which were the most common persons that lived among humans, were strong enough to break a wall just by punching it, were as fast as cars, could see a mile away and had other attributes depending on their race. A level three could lift up a trailer and was as fast as a race car, those greatly different from regular cars in speed by the way.
It would amaze you how far apart one level was from its immediate following level.
Other than just show a person's potential level, the system strengthens them to increase the probability of them attaining that level thereby making it accurate.
The only limitation to the classification system was that it didn't register with half breeds like me, thus our levels were unknown and our bodies weakened for the sake of the system's reliability. Pretty racist if I do say so myself.
In any case, being a half breeds with a weakened body, my senses were dulled compared to others so I could only detect when a level one person was around.
"And Taemoon didn't?" Jacob asked quirking a brow, I smacked my lips shaking my head. "Kale, and no I don't think so" I muttered trying to recall any strange behaviour of the guy but then I recalled everything about the guy was so fucking strange I wouldn't notice if anything got stranger!
Veronica scoffed, "so our fate lies in the hands of an incompetent" she muttered bitterly, Dan didn't say anything but I knew he agreed, they all did but Jacob was more considerate and frowned at what she said.
"It's Kale, didn't Avory just say that? Our fate lies in the hands of Kale" Jacob corrected rolling his eyes and I smiled at him. This was one of the reasons I really respected him.
"Hm-hm, in any case, whether or not they've made a move doesn't matter. What matters is that we get him first" Jacob said after clearing his throat. "All for kidnapping raise your hands" Dan called raising up his hand. Veronica automatically raised hers, well because she was a fucking simp, while the rest of us glanced at each other. Well I and Lee stared at Jacob who remained looking down, his thinking was always reasonable so I listened to him, Lee just didn't know how to make decisions and always let Jacob decide for him.
"He didn't agree when you asked him right?" He asked suddenly and I had to blink thinking for a while before I could answer.
"Yes yes, he didn't" I answered. "Isn't it no he d-"
"Shut up Veronica!" I and Jacob yelled at once. Veronica huffed rolling her eyes,
"In that case kidnapping is our only choice, we can't wait for him to warm up. I don't like the wording though, so we'll call it acquiring" Jacob said making me giggle
"Yeah, I do like that better" I muttered nodding in agreement. Lee nodded signalling that he went along with the plan.
"Y'all can drop your hands now" I quipped so Dan and Ver remembered their hands were still up.
"Next for discussion is where we'll keep him" Dan muttered glancing at me. Finding a place for Kale would be very hard as neither of us had our own place. Hell! Even our meeting place was just a nice dark conference room in the underground section of the abandoned clan's hall!
"We'll have to renovate one of the further underground rooms for him until we can find a permanent and more safe place" Jacob explained and I nodded slowly, "seems like our only option" Dan muttered shrugging and just like that Veronica agreed, Lee nodded as well leaving just me. There was no point thinking about it anyway, wasn't like we really had a choice. I sighed, really wish we had options.
"Fine, we keep him here. Temporarily." I muttered in agreement, Dan and Jacob beamed at me.
"Well that's the plan" he muttered. Jacob clapped,
"Well that's a wrap, Avory will come with me to select a room. Veronica take Dan to find rooms for him and Avory" as Jacob was instructing, Lee stood up and went to lift him up from his chair setting him to sit on his shoulders. Lee was very sensitive about his height so he did that so the littler guy could still look down at us.
I smiled standing up, "of course!" I answered following after the duo that were already leaving the room.
"Eh, whatever" I heard Veronica mutter
