"Dad, it's 3,000, not 300 dollars." Sheena couldn't lower down her voice and looked at Evan Hathaway with widely-opened eyes.
"I know. " Evan Hathaway didn't looked up but just stared at the cup of water that Sheena had poured for him before.
Sheena glanced at the direction of his looking, figuring out it's the tea that she had poured for him to wake up his mind. Sneering slightly, Sheena continued to copy his words, "you know it's 3,000 and you still insist in asking it from me…are you out of your mind for your desire for money like hell?"
However, Sheena's reaction didn't scare Evan Hathaway, who continued his request with somewhat confidence, "Yes, I know it's not a small number for a student like you, but I also know that you're the wife of Stephan Korade."
"Stephan Korade?" Sheena couldn't force herself to swallow the shock raised by the reason that her father had given.
It turned out that, her father didn't show up when her grandfather was hospitalized but did know she was married to the grandson of Alex Korade.
"How did you know that?" Sheena asked.
"Cherry had told me. " Evan Hathaway sneered with satisfaction as if he had won in this battle. "how come my dear daughter married to the grandson of the owner of the biggest medicine company in our city and I didn't know about it?"
"I'm your father, I deserve to know some news about your marriage." Evan Hathaway claimed as a judge on the court, as if he was holding the judging right in evaluating the validity of things.
Sheena stared at Evan Hathaway in silence. Her father had missed all her important moments in the past of her life: missing the attendance of her parents' meetings, missing the graduation ceremonies of primary school, middle school or even the high school. Every time he had claimed to come and he would just fail her expectation over and over again. As a result, in the early High-school graduation ceremony, she was successfully in withholding the upset raised by his absence.
But now he came and claimed he deserved to get knowledge of her marriage.
"Okay, since you deserve to know the marriage massage, you've already known it, that's all." Sheena didn't want to follow his routine. Her marriage shouldn't have anything to do this his asking for money.
However, things wouldn't go on as Sheena expected.
As soon as Sheena made that statement, Evan Hathaway just burst into laughter for quite a long while.
Time past like a century long. When Evan Hathaway finally stopped with some tears at the corners of his eyes, Sheena could figure out the crazy sparkles deep into his eyes.
"Stephan Korade is the grandson of Alex Korade, the richest man in Black Golden City." Evan Hathaway turned to Sheena with a smile of winner, "they should give stacks of money as the cash gift for the marriage."
"Dad! How could you think like that?" Sheena was shocked for the contact between things that her father had figured out, "I'm married to him, not being sold too him."
Although she had never expected her father would act like the usual fathers around the world, she wouldn't expect he would rush to her for money just because of this news. "No way!" Sheena rejected, "I only have 2000 dollars left for this month, if you're in dire need of money, I could give 1000 to you and have the rest as the living expense. However, as per the number you said, I'm helpless in fulfilling your need."
"Are you setting me on my way with pennies?" Evan Hathaway scolded with widely-opened eyes, "You've married to such a rich man, how come you just give me such limited amount of money?"
It's obviously that, her father's appetite for money couldn't be fulfilled by the money at the same amount as before. Evan Hathaway now was staring at her with a totally strange eye expression, from where Sheena could see nothing but benefits.
"Dad, we just married, we don't control each other's spending." Sheena tried to calm down her father and make him think intelligently. "What's more, due to the situation of grandpa, we don't plan to hold any wedding party. Therefore, no any cash gifts."
What Sheena said just pissed Evan Hathaway totally off. He screamed out like hell, "how could they treat you in such a way! You're the first daughter of our family, how could they marry you without paying any costs? I must go and cast accounts with them!"
Without waiting for the reaction of Sheena, Evan Hathaway dashed forwards to the door.
"Hold on!!!" Sheena tried her best to catch up with him and finally successfully held him back at the door of the elevator. "Dad, don't do this. I beg you…"
Sheena couldn't help shedding in tears, "I give you all those 2,000 dollars, don't raise any trouble in such a way."
Sheena was tired of correcting her father's behavior. No matter how much she had tried to convince him, he wouldn't accept until everything went as he expected. Take this current situation as an example, no matter how did she describe this case, he would just stick to his belief and would make true everything he wished. No matter how hard she tried, she would just end up in yielding.
As if convinced by the tears of Sheena, Evan Hathaway stopped and thought for quite a while. At last, he said as if he was quite hard to make the decision, "Sheena, I'm not asking for money, I'm doing this for your own good."
Sheena forced herself to smile, trying to calm down her father so he wouldn't be stimulated to do anything wrong. So she chose to nod her head to agree with her father Evan Hathaway, pretending to buy in his saying. Yes, he was doing this for her own good, not trying to humiliate her to ask for cash gifts from the family of Karade.
"You may not understand it at such an age, but you must remember..." Evan Hathaway said in a serious face, which Sheena Hathaway hadn't seen for quite a long term. In the whole life of Evan Hathaway, it was seldom for him to be in serious face. When impressed Sheena the most was when he divorced with her natural mother- Susana White. Yes, she was given birth by Susana White, not Lena Lim. When she was three years old, Susana White broke up with Evan Hathaway and left without carrying anything.
Sheena still remembered the day when her natural mother Susana White left, Susana had said, "please forgive me, I couldn't carry the burdens of the last mistake I've made into the future of my life."
Yes, she was deemed to be the burdens to someone's future, even though that's her natural mother.
"You must remember, if a man marries you at no cost, he wouldn't care about you in the rest of your life. The moment of marrying is the best timing for you to ask for anything you want from the husband." Evan Hathaway said these in a face as if he was thinking about these things for Sheena. Sheena should have been touched by his consideration. However, deep down into her heart, analyzed from the objectiveness, he was asking for the cash gifts for his own good. He was just pretending to do it for her that he could persuade her to help him in the capital gaining at no cost.
"But we didn't plan to hold any wedding ceremony!" Sheena tried to stop him in a not provoking way. "maybe we could just cut out all of these unnecessary and overelaborate formalities."
Sheena didn't want to owe the family of Korade too much, for the destined ending would be sure to come and it's better to keep the balance of not owing each other anything.
"What's more, Grandpa Alex had paid the hospitalization of Grandpa!" Sheena tried to remind Evan Hathaway about the care and money that they have owed the family of Korade.
However, hearing the words of Sheena, Evan Hathaway didn't even have a face expression. "No way, it's not an equal thing. "
Evan Hathaway turned to Sheena with a face of justice, "You value more than that! Sheena, you should always bear in mind."
If this sentence was heard from the mouth of other people, Sheena may be touched and feel more confident. However, when Evan Hathaway said this out, Sheena felt nothing but a deep fear. Because she felt she had been considered as a milch cow targeted by a greedy servant who wouldn't let go until the lost coin fallen from her body.
Shivering insider but trying her best to comfort herself, Sheena smiled and looked into the eyes of Evan Hathaway, "I know. I always know you cherish me like diamond and jewelry."
Stunned for a second for the saying of Sheena, Evan Hathaway was quick enough to turn back into a kind and warm father role, "I'll leave with these two thousand first, and next time we could prepare for the cash gifts asking."
It turned out that, the greedy person wouldn't let go of every chance of asking money from others, especially when they seized the chance.
