As per Sebastian's words, Stacy was a good woman. She had done everything to make sure his brother was able to heal from whatever I had put him through.
I found out she had even suggested that Brian stayed out of the limelight, as one of the recommendation in seeking healing. If he wanted to completely move on, she had said, he had to let go of all his past life. I, included.
That was how easily my Brian forgot all about me. No wonder his picture or photos of recent were nowhere to be found on the internet. He had chosen to live a private life with his fiance than the latter he had with me.
Sebastian confirmed that indeed Brian was getting married to the new love of his life. He made me promise him to tell Brian about our child, on the basis that he deserved to know.
I was aware he deserved to. However , I did not want anything to alter or hinder his happiness. I did not want him to feel tied to me. I did want him to feel like I was demanding his attention using our child. What I wanted was him, Brian to always be happy. And with that thought, I made my mind not to indulge him in anything concerning our child.
I was going to let him live his life. I on the other hand would also try to live my life. I have been. Until Damon and Seb mentioned him. Somewhere inside of me found a sense of relief. Despite everything that happened between us, atleast one of us had moved on. It was somehow the good news I had received that week.
I took out my phone, stared at the pictures I had of him and I. A small smile creeped onto my face. Brian looked gorgeous. I still couldn't believe he was getting married. Brian who was so much obsessed with me had finally broken free of me.
That evening I went home with a heavy heart. When Lana inquired whether everything was well, I broke down into tears. Amidst the sobs, I explained to Lana what had happened.
I could tell the sudden news of Brian getting married shook her. Lana could not believe it. She was the one who always encouraged me to keep hope on his return. She always said, his love would find its way onto me.
It broke her heart that her motherly instinct could be wrong.
"Have you talked to him?" Lana asked, while her hand wrapped around me in a hug. She was consoling me as I mourned the loss of the love of my life.
"For what reason?" I gently wriggled out of her hold and looked up at her. Her worried gaze settled on my pitiful features. Another pool of fresh tears escaped me.
"Oh my baby!" I was like a daughter to Lana. She could feel my pain as her hands wrapped around me again. I sobbed until the last tear left me.
All the while, my baby was asleep. As much as he was still very young, I wouldn't have loved him to see me in that situation. I wiped my dried tears, when his voice was unexpectedly heard from across the room.
He must have sensed his mother's worry because the first thing I heard was a shriek of his voice. Lana and I ran to his room only to find him wailing, while throwing hands and legs in the air.
He was still half asleep and must have had a bad dream. I gently took him in my hands as I began stroking his back whispering sweet words to him.
"It's okay baby. Mommy is here. " I cooed, planting a kiss on his forehead. Like he had smelled my presence, he immediately relaxed, going back into his slumber.
It was not long when Denis announced his presence. On my way from work, I had sent him to run an errand for me. Denis came back, panting while hyperventilating, making both Lana and I throw worried looks at him.
"Are you okay?" I asked. I had laid my baby back onto his cot, and was in the kitchen with Lana preparing our meal for dinner.
"I'm fine Ma'am. " Denis responded.
"It's just that.." he paused, his eyes lowering from our gazes back onto his palms.
"It's just what Denis?" I pressed. It took Denis a few minutes that seemed like eternity to reveal what was having him so worked up.
"I met sir." Denis blurted.
For a moment I could feel my legs go weak. I felt my feet go numb. It was Lana's hold on me that gently steadied my pose.
"W_where?" I muttered.
A gasp of breath was leaving me. A muffled whimper was heard through the room. It was no guesswork who it was coming from.
Denis, hurriedly assessing my situation, wished he had not said a word.
"Did I miss something?"
Instead of answering my question, he asked.
"Denis_" I whispered.
I had no strength left in me. I had used all that was left of me into mourning him. His love. Our lost love.
My voice was barely audible when I asked.
"Where did you meet him. "
Denis had no otherwise but to answer.
"I was coming from the mall when I spotted him from afar. I'm certain it was him.
His explanation suddenly washed a sense of relief through me. A certain surge of adrenaline sent waves of strength to my feet, making them strong again to stand on their own.
Denis did not meet Brian. He saw him from afar. That was a good thing. It meant Brian still had no idea I was in town.
I had begged both Damon and Sebastian to not reveal my presence to him. They had told me he was in town for a few days and could go back anytime. That was the reason why both of them had approached me. Both of them wanted us to sort out our differences and were hoping we could make up.
Sebastian had advised I used the time Brian was in town to my advantage. If it were the old Valeria Sebastian had advised, she would have taken up the advice. But this was a new me. I no longer took advantage of people. Rather I only took advantage of business opportunities and proposals. I had calmly turned down his advice, something that stunned him.
