I did not have to check the clock twice to anticipate the arrival of the new day.
At the first ring of my alarm, I shot out of bed. May baby was still asleep, something that doesn't usually happen. Prince was an early riser. At 6 I'm the morning, he would be awake playing and giggling all over the place.
Since Prince was asleep, I sneak into the kitchen to prepare breakfast for him. I did not bother to wake up Lana, who I figured out must have been exhausted from all the events of yesterday.
Today seemed odd. Since the demise of Sebastian, I was indecisive on whether to attend work or not. We haven't received any message from HR, and I hoped we would sooner. Most people wanted to take some days off, especially me in courtesy of mourning my Boss.
I usually reported to Sebastian directly. I wondered who would replace him. The person that would, would become my new boss. I just hoped it wasn't Brian, and we would get along.
As my mind wondered, I realized I hadn't put anything on the cooker despite turning it on a few minutes ago. Hurriedly, I put a pot of milk on it, and poured in a good amount of milk. I was hoping to prepare breakfast for the whole family before I engaged myself in other errands.
I figured it wasn't wise to go back to work this sooner and so I shot a message to the HR requesting for a few days off. Before I could put my phone back into my pocket, I received a notification from an unknown number.
My eyes squeezed together to read the contents of the message.
"You're next!" It read.
For a moment, the text sent a euphoric chill down my spine alerting my limbs to stay awoke.
I reread the message again and again. After a few minutes of trying to decipher what it meant, I concluded it wasn't meant for me.
"It must be wrong number. " I muttered under my breath as I went back to my errand.
The milk was all ready and I was in the middle of packing it for my baby when another notification dinged in my phone.
Who's it now?
I rolled my eyes, absentmindedly taking out my phone from my back pocket.
I almost choked on my saliva when I read the contents of the message.
"We're sorry to announce the demise of our beloved CEO of S hotel, the late Mr. Sebastian McDermott Grey. May his soul rest in Peace."
"We hereby announce the accession of our new CEO that would take place tomorrow in the hotel's premises at 10. am. Everyone must attend. Welcome !"
How soon? And it was mandatory to attend? I reread again to confirm.
Sebastian was just laid to rest not even a day ago and the board was already planning to appoint a new CEO? How fast people forget the dead!
I could not believe. However as the employer of S hotel, it was my obligation to attend the accession or else I would get my ass fired. I thought to myself.
After finishing making breakfast, I arranged everything on the table and went to have bath. I was relieved to notice Lana in her way down into the dining room with Prince clutched onto her hand.
I greeted them on my way to my room. On reaching my room, again for the third time, I received a message that this time round did not make me choke, instead it made my heart rate hasten as my feet became numb.
Carelessly, I slumped onto the bed, almost loosing my phone into the brown tiled floor.
My eyes were fast to skim through the message, making it more weird and strange.
I had expected the message to come from the first unknown number but rather it came from a new one.
"Ignore this at your own peril!" The message read.
Whoever was playing such games with me was not being funny at all! What did they mean by that? What's with these wrong numbers? Again, I concluded.
I threw my phone on bed and changed into my bath robe. I scalded into the bathroom to wash off all the remnants of yesterday and today's evil spirits. I had foreseen my today would go well and not like how I had started it.
Pushing the negative thoughts off my mind, I gently washed off all the negative energy from my body. I then manifested a good day and a good week ahead of me.
"Full of blessings. " I added as I stared at my naked self in the mirror. To say I looked gorgeous would be an understatement. I looked so beautiful I could not stop staring. For a moment, I felt myself falling in love with every inch and scar on my body. I admired the every bit of it as I smiled myself in the mirror.
It was long since I felt like this. Beautiful?
I hurriedly stepped out of the bathroom before I fell deeply in love with me.
The thought made me chuckle hillariously. For the first time since a long time, I felt my spirit getting back into my body.
Lately I had been drained. All the events that happened had taken a huge toil on me. I was slowly loosing myself and succumbing into a devoid of nothingness. If I had known that it would take only one bath to dissolve everything, I would have taken it sooner. It made me feel alive.
The smile of my face widened as I hummed to "I'm unstoppable" on my phone. It was evident that this week was going to be marvelous.
I took my time with myself, as I caressed every inch of my skin while oiling it.
It was Lana's voice that reminded me breakfast was getting cold and I needed to get down asap. With one last look at the mirror, I patted myself for sailing through the storm singlehandedly. I was a brazen warrior.
Perhaps this was the beginning of something nice. Something new. I whispered to myself.
