Chapter 16 - The threath

Before leaving the house, I gave orders on what should be prepared and the arrangements on the family dinner.

Lana assured that I should not worry and everything would be perfectly to my liking by the time I got off work.

Unlike most morning where Denis took me to work, that day I decided to drive myself. I reached at the office where I found Sebastian and Damon waiting for me.

The first thing they did before greeting me was congratulate me on getting admission into Aston.

I thanked them for going out of their way to celebrate my small achievement. Sebastian made a small speech on how he would loose me as an employee but was happy for me regardless.

Us three, engaged for few minutes before Damon decided to excus us. He kept me informed that he would be attending the diner together with Sebastian and inquired if I was okay with that. I assured them it was well with me and everyone at my household, and their presence would be highly appreciated.

Damon then excused Seb and I, letting us go back to our work posts. As I was preparing myself to begin my work, Sebestian began inquiring on the welfare of his nephew. He had never seen him and it was very considerate of him to do that.

It was then it clicked in my mind about his invitation to my home. Seb was going to see my child, something that I was not prepared for. As much as I hated to admit it, I wasn't ready for any member of the McDermott family to meet my child. Atleast not yet.

"He's well. "

I feigned, suddenly becoming conscious of his question.

Sebastian studied me from a minute, before he went ahead to ask.

"When are you planning to tell him?"

His question was abrupt, jerking me to my senses.

I had no plans of telling Brian about our child.

I had made a decision of not getting Brian involved in my child's life. I was aware of the drastic decision I had made and the repercussions it would bring, but I was willing to risk it.

If there was anyone it would he so hard to co-parent with, was Brian McDermott Grey. After so much thought about it, I feared that if Brian found out I had his child, he would do everything in his power to take him away from me. He hated me, and therefore would do anything to see me suffer. Including snatching my child.

Loosing my child was one thing I would not dare to risk.

"What are you thinking about?"

Sebastian startled. I did not realize Seb was sitting across from me, his eyes reading my face to detect any form of fallacy.

"Nothing. " I was quick to defend.

"You haven't answered my question. " He pressed.

"I'll tell him soon. "

I was quick to lie as I turned my focus to the files on the table which were anywhere but his face.

Sebastian had crossed his legs on the chair, his eyes, stern and inspecting , not leaving my face.

" I can help with it. " He blurted.

"Help with what" My attention was now fully focused on him.

"Telling him about the child ."

What?

Whad did he mean by that? Was he threatening me?

"You wouldn't dare!"

I wriggled my brows at him.

"I'm serious. "

Seb was quick to defend his claim, while I looked at him like he had just grown two heads.

"My brother is getting married in a few weeks. I would love him to know he has a child with you before walking down that isle. As much as Stacy is a good woman, I don't think she would bear to find out about Brian's child after they have had their wedding. Besides, my mom and siblings would be so happy to welcome our nephew home. "

What?

"That's not your problem Seb." I retaliated .

"It's not for you to intervene in your brother's relationship. " I flatly replied.

Whatever issue Stacy and Brian were to encounter if they ever found out about Prince would be theirs to handle. Neither I nor nor were allowed to play middle men . Whatever Seb was playing at, he was not very good at it.

I gauged an eye with him, removing all the ounce of fear I had once developed. Courage surged through my feet, as I felt bold to engage with him.

Sebastian looked startled by my sudden outburst, he said.

"Alright. You got me. "

He stood from the chair, and walked across the room. It was not long before he began pacing across the area.

After something that took like two minutes, it was then Sebastian revealed how he would have loved it if I was the one who would be walking down that isle. He knew his brother was so much in love with me but was very stubborn to admit.

"I know he loves you. He is just too hurt to admit. " He said.

"Marrying Stacy is not a solution. I tell him. But Brian is too stubborn to listen. " Seb revealed.

"It should be you. Not her!" He declared.

His words held so much weight. The mention of the possibility about Brian still being in love with me made my heart flutter. I therefore understood the reason why Sebastian wanted me to tell his brother about our child. He thought that if Brian found out about Prince, he would second think about his engagement to Stacy.

"But she's a good woman. " I defended.

Although I had no idea who Stacy was, from Sebastian and Damon's description, the lady deserved her flowers. In this case, it was Brian McDermott Grey. It would very selfish of me, to even think of snatching what was rightfully hers from her.

"I'm not going to do anything that could ruin your brother's happiness. Neither should you." I told him.

"We're not such kind of people Seb,"

I tried to instill some sense into Sebastian's head. I understood his care for his brother, but Stacy too was human.

The woman was getting married in a few days. It would be so unfair to her if the wedding was to be abruptly stopped because of me.

Again for the hundredth time since breaching the topic about my child, I made Sebastian take a vow not to reveal anything to his brother until I was ready. The ready we settled on was after Prince turned two years. That would be an year from now. If I could wait for Brian, Brian too would have no problem waiting a little bit longer to meet his child.

After convincing Sebastian to go with my way, I felt like a lawyer who had won a framing murder case against their innocent victim. To win him over, I personally extended an invite to him into our family dinner.

Sebastian made a claim to attend it if only they would be lamb sticks, which I immediately informed Lana to put on the menu.

That evening, as I went home early to prepare for my esteemed guests, I made sure everything was up to standard, not knowing it was my last time I would see Sebastian alive.
