It was forty minutes past six in the evening, and ten minutes past the time our esteemed guests were to arrive. Denis had gotten bored waiting for them and was insisting we began feasting without them.
Lana on the hand was patiently waiting for our honourable guests. It was the first time we were having other people apart from us in the house and Lana was so much excited. She couldn't wait to meet my boss when I told her he was joining us. Lana had no idea Sebastian was related to Brian, and I preferred to keep it that way. I was also hoping any topic related to Brian McDermott Grey would be kept out of our dinner that day.
Again for the hundredth time, Denis suggested I phone Damon to inquire whether they were on their way. With a disappointed heart, I took my phone and immediately made a call to Damon.
The call rang but straight went to voice mail.
"Dear, try again."
Lana encouraged as she read the worry on my face. Damon was the first friend I had made sinceBrian and was so much looking forward for him and Sebastian to join us. Them not showing up was beginning to make me think I was unworthy of keeping real friends.
A disappointment crease had settled across my features. I looked sad and everyone was at the table. The dinner that we had anticipated would full of laughter and joy, was beginning to turn sore.
Before I could think any further outcomes of our planned dinner, Damon's call came through. He was hyperventilating on the other end, something that immediately jerked me to my feet, the sad crease on my face replace by worry.
"Damon," I called out as everyone else on the table stood.
"Are you okay?"
A lot of questions were already running through my mind. His breath on the other end of the call had become heavy and short as I struggled to muster what he was speaking.
"V_Val" I managed to grasp.
"We_we. An Accident."
What?
The call got disconnected.
Lana was fast to ask what was happening, and in one swift word, I answered.
"An accident!"
"Oh God! Is he okay?" She gasped.
I nodded my head "no," because I had no idea.
Immediately the phone call disconnected, I called 911 and informed them of a possible accident enroute my way.
I then ordered Denis to stay with Lana to make sure her and Prince were safe. I quickly headed to grab my jacket.
Denis was very fast to stop me, defying my orders.
"No ma'am. I'm coming with you!" I glared.
Lana immediately chipped in.
"Yes dear. Let him come with you. It's not safe for you to be all alone outside there."
Her advice made a lot of sense. I quickly changed my mind and told Denis to get the car ready.
I then told Lana to stay safe with Prince and ordered her not to let anyone into our house till we got back. She nodded her head, praying for journey mercies as we went to survey the situation.
On our way to Damon, I kept calling his phone but every call I made went straight to voicemail. This made me more worried as I also tried my boss's number, but was welcomed with the same outcome. Both of the numbers were unreachable.
I didn't know when I began chanting and praying but was doing it regardless. I had a bad feeling about the whole situation. I kept praying for Damon to be fine. He was the only friend I had and I was not ready to loose him.
"He's okay Ma'am. "
Denis muttered, an attempt to ease my worry.
I did not answer him as a police call came through. They informed me of a location nearby to my place that they had noticed an accident to have occurred. My limbs went numb as my heart rate began beating abnormal.
"You have to be okay Damon," I whispered under my breath.
As soon as we got to the pinned location which was a few kilometres away from my home, my feet surged me out of the car, rushing me to disastrous scene.
A car had been crushed by a lorry, dismantling all its bonnet with one side of its front seats going unrecognisable. Whoever the passengers of the damaged vehicle were, would be very lucky to be alive.
The moment my presence was noticed, I was stopped by the police.
"Officer, I was the one who called. " I informed.
"My boyfriend is in there," I pleaded for them to let me see the victims.
"Ma'am, you're not allowed to get closer to the scene. " The police stopped.
After much begging and pleading, they let me in. I passed through a pool of blood as I finally neared the place of the scene. With every step I made, I held my heart in my hand. His name never left my tongue.
"Damon, you have to be okay. " I kept chanting.
My feet went stiff when I noticed a limb hand hanging out of the car. It held a so farmiliar ring, I immediately gasped at the sight of it.
"Boss," I cried.
It was Sebastian. I had no doubt it was him.
"Seb Seb no no. It cannot be!" Everything seemed surreal. It couldn't be him.
I edged closer , assessing every bit of the situation. As per the police report, there were two people. One had gotten critically injured and was rushed to the hospital, and other had died on the spot. They were in the process of retrieving the body as it had been dangerously stuck into the vehicle.
I hinged more closer. I did not know where I got the courage to hold the hand by its wrist as I assessed it's watch. It's was Sebastian's.
Tears in massive pools began flying out of my eyes.
"Seb. " I veered into the vehicle to really confirm. My eyes shut, at the tragic sight of him.
There was an iron rod stuck in his head while pieces of glasses cut through his neck into his throat. Another iron rod I presumed as the remains of the wreckage of his car, lunged straight into his heart. He couldn't have survived!
My feet gave away. All the energy I had came with, left me as I slumbed onto the cold tarmac road.
"Seb," I called crying mercilessly. I did not realize how Denis got beside me, taking me into his arms.
He gently held me, as I sobbed the loss of my boss.
"Sebastian," I wailed.
"Who's gonna eat the lamb sticks I made for you? What am I gonna tell Prince about his Uncle?" I cried.
"Everyone is waiting for you at home Seb. Lana, Denis, Prince.."
I couldn't not finish the sentence as Denis held me closer to him, making to burst into a pool of fresh tears.
It's so painful how one minute you're talking to a person, and the next minute they're no more!
