CHAPTER 14
Luna POV
I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease as Xavier and I sat in my living room, looking over our shoulders, waiting for the next attack. We had been ambushed twice already, and I knew it was only a matter of time before they struck again.
Xavier's phone rang, and he answered, his expression grim. "Desmond, what's the situation?" he asked, his voice low and urgent. I watched as he listened intently, his eyes scanning the room as if searching for an escape route. "We need to get out of here, now," he said, grabbing my hand and pulling me up from the couch. We rushed to the secure room, Andre clinging to my leg, scared and crying. I tried to comfort him, but my own fear was rising.
Xavier's phone rang again, and he answered, his voice firm. "Dami, we need backup now." I heard the gunfire outside, and my heart raced. Xavier pulled me close, shielding me and Andre from the danger. Desmond and his team arrived, and we were escorted out of the house, away from the chaos. We entered the road through Auntie May's garden pathway and started our journey to Country D.
As we settled into the safe house, I couldn't help but wonder what was happening. Xavier was being tight-lipped about everything, and I knew he was hiding something. But one thing was clear – we were in grave danger, and I had to trust Xavier to keep us safe. As we settled into the safe house, I tried to process everything that had happened. Xavier was being quiet, lost in thought, and I knew he was worried about something.
I tried to talk to him, but he just shook his head and told me he couldn't discuss it yet. I knew he was trying to protect me, but it was hard not to feel frustrated. Andre was the only one who seemed unaffected by everything. He was playing with his toys, laughing and smiling, and it broke my heart to think that he might be in danger. Xavier's phone rang again, and he answered, his expression grim. "Desmond, what did you find out?" he asked, his voice low and urgent.
I watched as he listened, his eyes narrowing. "I'll take care of it," he said, before hanging up. "What is it?" I asked, but he just shook his head. Later that day, Xavier got a call from an unknown number. He hesitated before answering, and I knew something was wrong. "Hello?" he said, his voice cautious. I watched as his expression changed from caution to shock. "What do you mean?" he asked, his voice rising.
I knew something was wrong, and I felt a chill run down my spine. Suddenly, Xavier's face went white. "No," he whispered. "It can't be." So how did I become the next of kin, how did I inherit everything?? He asks the person on the other end.. I felt a surge of fear. What was happening? Xavier turned to me, his eyes filled with a mixture of shock and determination. "Luna, I have to tell you something," he said, his voice barely above a whisper. But before he could continue, his phone rang again. He hesitated before answering, and I knew our lives were about to change forever.
Xavier's POV
I answered the phone, my heart racing. "Hello? "Auntie May is innocent," Desmond said, his voice firm. "She's been framed, Xavier. She was the one that changed everything from her name to yours, she was their accomplice." I felt a wave of relief and sadness wash over me, followed by anger. Who was behind this? "What do you mean?" I asked, trying to keep my cool. "Mr. Anthonio and President Allen tried using her to get your father's properties" Desmond explained. "They're trying to get to you through her." I clenched my fist, determination burning within me. I have wronged my mother, I have accused her wrongly.. Mom I have to keep you safe, no matter what.
I would stop at nothing to keep them safe. But as I looked at Luna, I knew I had to tell her the truth eventually. She deserved to know. And what about Auntie May? My mother? I had so many questions. But for now, I had to focus on keeping them safe. The truth would have to wait. I looked at Luna, who was watching me with concern. I knew I had to tell her, but I couldn't bring myself to do it yet. "Luna, I need to go out for a bit," I said, trying to sound calm. "Desmond needs my help with something." She nodded, looking at me. "Be careful, Xavier." I smiled, feeling a pang of guilt. I was keeping so much from her.
As I left the safe house, I couldn't help but wonder what other secrets were hiding in my life. Who else was involved in this web of lies? Desmond was waiting for me outside. "Xavier, we need to move fast," he said. "Mr. Anthonio and President Allen are getting desperate." I nodded, determination burning within me. "what can we do to keep my mom safe!! We spent the next few hours gathering evidence, building a case against the conspirators. I knew it wouldn't be easy, but I was ready for the fight. As the sun began to set, I knew I had to face Auntie May, my mother. I had to know the truth.
Country A
I took a deep breath and headed to her house, my heart pounding in my chest. What would I find out? Would she confirm Desmond's revelation? I knocked on the door, my hand shaking slightly. The door opened, and Auntie May stood before me, a look of fear in her eyes. "Xavier, I've been trying to tell you, I didn't kill your father" she said, her voice trembling. I took a deep breath, steeling myself for what was to come. "Tell me the truth, Mom," I said, my voice firm. "Who am I?"
Auntie May looked at me, confusion in her eyes. "Xavier, what are you talking about? You know who you are." I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. "Mom I know you're in danger. Mr. Anthonio and President Allen are using you to get to me." She gasped, her hand flying to her mouth. "Oh, Xavier, I had no idea. I've been so worried about you." I am so sorry Mom for not believing you, I'm sorry for accusing you. Mom, I need to ask you something," I said, hesitating. "Do you know anything about my past? About my parents?"
She looked at me, a mix of sadness and fear in her eyes. "Xavier, Your dad and I were on our way back from country D when we met your parents care that was involved in an accident, you were laid on the floor but your parents and the driver died there, my husband suggested we adopt you legally and raised you as our own.. That's all I know son ." she said.. As I left Auntie May's house, I knew I had to protect her and Luna. I couldn't let Mr. Anthonio and President Allen hurt them. I went back to the safe house, my mind racing with thoughts. I knew I had to tell Luna the truth about Auntie May eventually, but for now, I had to keep it a secret. Luna looked up at me as I entered, concern in her eyes. "Xavier, what's wrong?" I forced a smile, trying to reassure her. "Nothing, Luna. Everything's fine." But it wasn't fine. My whole world had been turned upside down, and I didn't know how to make it right.
