Chapter 15 - THE BROKEN PAST

CHAPTER 15

I couldn't believe what I had just discovered. Auntie May, the woman I had grown to trust and care for, was Xavier's mother. I felt like my whole world had been turned upside down. I kept thinking back to all the times Auntie May had been there for me, supporting me and loving me like a mother. I had thought she was just a lonely widow, but now I knew the truth. I couldn't reconcile the facts in my mind. Why had Xavier kept this from me? Why had Auntie May pretended to be someone she wasn't? I felt like I was in denial again, just like when I had first discovered Xavier's true identity. But this time, it was different. This time, it was personal.

Just then, Jessica arrived at the safe house, a look of concern on her face. "Luna, what's wrong?" she asked, noticing my distress. I hesitated, unsure of how to share the news. "It's Auntie May," I said finally. "She's Xavier's mother." Jessica's eyes widened in shock. "What? That's impossible!" I nodded, feeling a lump form in my throat. "I know. I can't believe it either." Jessica sat down next to me, putting a comforting arm around my shoulders. "We'll get through this, Luna. Together."

I took a deep breath, trying to calm down. Jessica was still sitting next to me, a look of concern on her face.

Meanwhile, Mr. Anthonio was furious. His guards had failed to execute their plans, and Luna was still alive. "You fools!" he shouted, his face red with rage. "You were supposed to kill her, not let her escape!" One of the guards trembled. "I-I'm sorry, sir. We'll try again." Mr. Anthonio's eyes narrowed. "See that you do. I want Luna dead, and I want Xavier to suffer."

Meanwhile, Mr. Anthonio was getting more and more agitated. His guards had failed him again, and he was running out of patience. "Desmond is protecting her," one of the guards said. "We can't get past him."

Mr. Anthonio's face turned red with rage. "I don't pay you to make excuses," he shouted. "I pay you to get results. And I want Luna dead." The guard trembled. "Yes, sir. We'll try again." But Mr. Anthonio was no longer listening. He had a plan, and he was going to see it through, no matter what.

Luna's Pov

"Luna, what are you going to do?" Jessica asked. I shook my head. "I don't know. I need to talk to Xavier, but I'm not sure I'm ready for that conversation." Jessica nodded. "I understand. But you need to know the truth, Luna. You deserve to know." I nodded, knowing she was right. I needed to face Xavier and demand answers. Just then, Andre who was asleep started crying. I got up to comfort him, trying to push aside my own emotions. As I rocked Andre back to sleep, I couldn't help but think about Auntie May. Why had she kept her true identity a secret? And what else was she hiding?

I knew I had to talk to her too, but I was scared. What if she confirmed my worst fears? As the day went on, I couldn't shake off the feeling of unease. I knew I had to confront Xavier and Auntie May, but I was dreading it.

Xavier's POV

I knew Luna was upset. She had every right to be. I had kept my mother's identity a secret, and now she felt betrayed. As I entered the safe house, I saw Luna standing in the living room, her arms crossed and a look of anger on her face. "Xavier, we need to talk," she said, her voice firm.

I nodded, knowing I had to face the consequences of my actions. "Auntie May is your mother," she said, her voice shaking. "Why didn't you tell me?" I took a deep breath, trying to explain. "I was protecting her, Luna. And I was protecting you." But Luna wasn't having it. "You were protecting yourself," she said, her eyes flashing with anger. I knew I had to calm her down, but before I could say anything, Luckily my Mom walked into the room.

"Luna, dear, I can explain," she said, her voice soft. And then Tania walked in, a big smile on her face. "Hey, everyone! I finally get to meet Luna and Andre!" The tension in the room was palpable, but Tania's enthusiasm was infectious. Luna couldn't help but smile, and even Auntie May cracked a small smile. As Tania hugged Luna and played with Andre, I knew I had to make things right. I took Luna's hand, leading her outside for a private talk.

"Luna, I'm sorry," I said, my voice sincere. "I was wrong to keep my mother's identity a secret. Can you ever forgive me?" Luna looked at me, her eyes searching. "I need time, Xavier. But I want to understand. Why did you keep it a secret?" I took a deep breath, ready to tell her the truth. I kept it a secret because I was trying to protect my mother," I explained. "After my father's death, she was in danger. Mr. Anthonio was looking for her, and I didn't want him to find her through me."Luna nodded, understanding in her eyes. "And why did you keep it from me?"

I hesitated, knowing this was the hardest part to explain. "I was scared, Luna. I didn't know how you would react. And I didn't want to lose you." Luna's expression softened, and she squeezed my hand. "You won't lose me, Xavier. But you need to trust me. We're in this together." I felt a weight lift off my shoulders as I realized the truth in her words. We were in this together, and I didn't have to carry the burden alone. As we hugged, Tania came out, a curious expression on her face. "Everything okay?" Luna smiled. "Yeah, we're good."

Tania grinned. "Good! Because I have a surprise for everyone. Let's go inside." We followed Tania into the living room, where Auntie May and Jessica were chatting. Tania clapped her hands together. "I have an idea. Let's have a family dinner tonight! We can catch up and get to know each other better." Auntie May's face lit up. "That sounds wonderful, dear." And just like that, the tension in the room dissipated. We were all in this together, as a family.
