Chereads / Lilly Harper & Her Alpha Mate / Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

Chapter 35 - Chapter 35

Leo's POV

My chest was tight watching my mate sob in my arms, I was completely and utterly helpless. If someone attacked they would be dead in an instant. If someone shot at her I would take the bullet but this? It was like her own body was attacking her and there was nothing I could do but sit and wait for it to pass. She laid in my arms asleep and I didn't dare move for fear of waking her back up. She would whimper every so often but at least she wasn't conscious for the pain. I held her until her body finally started to relax just as it did the night before and I knew it was safe to fall asleep with her.

I felt the bed move and I lifted my arms to pull her to me but she was no longer laying on my chest, my eyes instantly shot open just as I saw her running into the bathroom. The light outside was barely visible so I knew it must have been around 5 in the morning, I got up and tapped on the semi open door as it creaked open I heard her puking in the toilet and ran to hold her hair back. She lost everything she had at for the day and possibly more and her body wretched as she started to dry heave tears falling down her pink cheeks as she quietly sobbed from the exhaustion of being sick. I held her hair until it ceased and then lifted her in my arms to walk in the shower and bathe her, she didn't speak, it seemed she didn't have the energy to even cry anymore. The shower had a bench built into the wall so I sat and held her on my lap as I rinsed her body. Her body felt fragile as her limp arm hung around my neck. After cooling her body down I wrapped her in a sheet and laid her back in the bed I got in next to her and held her close to my body falling asleep again to the sound of her heart beating.

I woke up before her for once, she looked so peaceful sleeping and I didnt want her to wake up in pain again. I mind liked Dom and William to meet me at the kitchen in 10 minutes. I slid out of bed painfully slow so that she wouldn't feel the bed move and got dressed before slowly closing the door and running down the stairs to the kitchen. Dom and William were already waiting for me: Hey guys, thanks for coming.

"No problem Leo" William pursed his lips sympathetically.

"So whats up?" Dom looked at me questioning as he finished making our coffees and he walked them over to the table sitting them down in front of us.

"Guys I need help figuring out what this is. Not one pack that Ive called throughout the state has heard of this happening to a human. Anyone that has had a human turned Werewolf has told me the transition was smooth, mild discomfort and then it was over. What if shes dying? I cant… I fucking cannot lose her." Tears started to well and Dom put his hand on my shoulder, William the other for a moment before he jumped up: My uncle, he is the Alpha of the Atlanta pack, its a pretty big pack and I happen to be his heir should anything happen to him.

"And?" I gave him a questioning look before he finally continued: And… I will ask him to call the packs in Georgia and ask there as well. Give me a few hours and see if we can come up with something. Just then Dom jumped up as well: Leo, wasn't dad's sister mated to a guy from Boston? You think dad could call her and see if they've heard anything?

Dealing with my father was not ideal but I would do anything to keep from losing Lilly: Lets go!

Dom and I left to go to the cottage on the out skirts of town where my father lived not too far away from the pub where he was reportedly drunk almost daily till I said I no longer wanted to know. An heir is supposed to take over as Alpha on their 25th birthday but my father had stepped down as Alpha only 4 years after my mother was murdered. I was 19 years old when my father left the pack house and didnt tell anyone, he just packed his clothes and moved into the cottage, I became Alpha only days later and due to the loss of my mother, my formal training to be an Alpha was lacking to say the least, I had to learn on the job and sometimes the pack suffered, I couldn't forgive him for that.

Pulling into the driveway I realized I hadn't been here in at least a few years, I had seen my dad at mandatory pack meetings but I never spoke to him or visited him. The property looked like shit, the grass was completely over grown slightly covering the kids play equipment outside which was sun bleached and partly broken, the cottage itself was run down, the stones were cracked and even had some holes in the walls where we could see in, one big enough I could see the fire lit and my father bent over stoking it. The porch had a few inches of leaves and debris from what looked like at least a few years of fall. We stepped up to the door, knocked and only waited a moment before the door opened. My father looked surprised to see us, the corners of him mouth turned slightly up as he tried to contain a smile: Hi… is… is there anything I can do for you Alpha?

I heard Dom scoff behind me and could just feel him rolling his eyes, he had more reason to be angry at him because he left when Dom was only 16 years old. I handed him my cell phone and said: I need you to call your sister Jolene and ask her to contact her Alpha, I need to know if they have any human turned Werewolves and whether or not they had a hard time transitioning, my mate is having a hard time transitioning and I need to know why or if its normal for some and not others. The only human turned that we have had an easy time and so did all the ones we've heard of in this state.

He narrowed his eyes at me, his brows furrowed as if he was deep in thought but it went on a little too long and I realized he's drunk. I grabbed his shoulders and shook him: Wake up old man! Your going to do this for me or I'll make sure every liquor store and bar within 100 miles bans your ass.

"SON, STOP! Okay for 1. I stopped drinking a few years ago and for 2. There's no need for me to call your Aunt Jolene!" I gave him a questioning look but the only thing I said was: Explain, now!

"Come in and sit, this is going to take a little while to explain and I'm sure you will have questions" We walked in and sat next to the fire as he continued: I do know of a human turned from when my grandfather was Alpha that went through an extremely hard time transitioning and my grand father had told me about a few before his time but they've all past on by now. Its quite amazing if your mate is one of them though, they are extremely rare if she is what I think she is.

"IS WHAT?" I growled angrily as my eyes shifted showing I was in no mood to chit chat with him. He raised his hands in surrender telling me he would get to the point as he continued once again: We are born Werewolves because our genes were passed down to us by our parents and then get passed down to our children and so on. As you know, some humans have a sliver of the Werewolf gene but not enough to allow them our powers unless marked through mating. However; there are a rare group of people and when I say rare I mean like 1 in a billion who have a slightly different gene, more pure if you will, they call it the Primordial Gene. Primordial gene as in genes from the first Werewolves to ever exist they were the mother and father if you will or King and , these human turned are the strongest Werewolves we have and go on to produce a line of very strong Alpha's. The longer times goes on though, the more rare they become as the primordial genes become watered down over time. Sounds like your mate is a Prime Werewolf, son that makes her royalty.

I hung on his every word taking in all the information I could soak up before asking: And their transitions? Are they meant to be so painful?

His eyes lowered and paused for a moment before responding: My grandfather did say the ones he knew of went through hell to turn one of them even killed themselves to stop the pain before they had the chance to turn all the way. Yes… unfortunately I do think she will just have to go through the transition.

Before this moment I didn't know it was possible to feel so relieved and so stressed all at the same time. I didn't even notice him get up or hear him pour the drinks or even see him return until the glass touched my hand. I took it without hesitation and raised a brow at him for him to purse his lips into a crooked smile before saying: I did quit drinking but I keep a bottle for guests, I swear. I recognize I have fucked up bad in the past and I want to make it right if you will let me.

I didn't have time to deal with my daddy issues today, I stood up and Dom did as well, I downed the drink and said: Thanks dad. I turned and left with Dom right behind me. We got back in the car and only when we were halfway back to the house did Dom finally speak: Do you believe him… About Lilly I mean?

I didn't look away from the road I just thought for a moment before responding to him: He has no reason to lie, plus once he started talking about it, I think I remember him telling something about it when I was a kid. I think it's true, and I think we're going to have to watch her until she finally turns tomorrow. I linked William to watch Lilly the second dad made the comment about one of them killing themselves from the pain.

Dom nodded his head and then said: Do you thin maybe he will come back? Would you let him if he did want to?

"Dom I cant even think about that right now. All I can do is protect Lilly and if dad wants to come back than he can wait till all of this is over and we can talk about it then." Dom looked dejected and sunk into the seat before I added: Sorry, im just scared for Lilly. He gave me a sympathetic smile and nodded.
