Chapter 1 - Blood Moon

November 8, 2022

A day often believed, by many, to be just one of many ordinary days they have lived. However, they couldn't have known it was the day that marked the coming of the end of the word, the apocalypse. Well, not yet anyway.

The day had just barely begun for some and was evening for others, as power went off not just in Europe, not just in Asia, and not just Australia, but all across the entire world. A global blackout, a disaster unlike anything the world had ever seen. All the light anybody had was what radiated off the moon, the glowing beautiful moon that it was. However, before their very eyes the color of the moon changed as it took upon a reddish hue, it was a blood moon. However this moon felt odd, it was as if they were being stared at by an eye full of cruelty, dominance, pride, and bloodlust. But beyond all the menacing fear they felt, no one could deny that above all else the moon looked beautiful, more beautiful in that moment than ever before.

Those that looked at this blood moon, were filled with this innate sense of fear, one that they had possessed since they were born, one that they as a species had long forgotten, one that had been forged into every ounce of blood in their bodies, and one at this current moment was waking up for the first time in centuries. The fear of being lesser, of being ruled, the fear of pain, and death. As anybody who saw the blood moon was afflicted with this fear, some who were stronger willed weren't as affected, as while they still felt fear it wasn't crippling enough upon the mind.

Those with weak wills were amongst the first who cracked under the pressure, their minds, inhibitions, logic, and reason deteriorated. Rioting and looting began, and even those who weren't affected joined in others started fire with Molotov cocktails, others lost control of their vehicles like cars and ran into other vehicles and buildings causing the deaths of drivers and passengers, airplanes that fell out of the sky and crashed into buildings, causing hundreds to die. Shipmates lost their crews, some jumped overboard and drowned, while others killed their mates. Fear was spreading all over the world, bodies dropped, others were injured horribly. There were tragedies all over the world, the lives lost, the panic, the horror, the loss of sanity and morality displayed, all of it because of one blood moon. The world slowly began to look like hell on Earth, the apocalypse, all it was missing was a red sky.

Governments around the world were beyond busy, constantly trying to contact other countries and its own law enforcement to stop the pandemonium occurring in their domains, only capable of using radio and directing police forces, riot squads, and military forces. Hospitals the same were just as busy, as other doctors had to be called in to help with the massive flood of injured people there. Unfortunately, there wasn't enough space, no power, not even the backup generators were working, people plugged into life support already died, those outside set fire to the hospitals causing damage to the buildings, taking even more lives as others were trapped by the flames especially on the higher levels. Due to the global wide pandemonium the help they could receive would be limited if the immensely stretched thin law enforcement could get around to them.

In prisons & asylums, low or max security, the sight of the blood moon couldn't reach perhaps a blessing upon the world and their minds. But even without the touch of the blood moon with the blackout a riot began which turned into a prison break, the prisons attempted to defend themselves, some succeeded others failed. The aftermath was bodies of both prisoners and guards, walls covered in blood, bullet shells everywhere, it was a warzone. With failure came the release of some extremely dangerous criminals and mental patients. Those criminals that survived were to go back to their old ways: killers set free to find more prey, drug lords back to their empires, terrorists back to their groups, and hitmen back into the world of crime.

However, beyond all of this in the southern part of Miami, more specifically in David T. Kennedy Park, when the blood moon had just begun. There was a young man covered in a hoodie lying down on a very small bench, when all of a sudden, his eyes shot wide open, while reflecting the color of the moon, his pupils dilating quickly as his eyes caught the sight of the blood moon beginning. Slowly he removed his skinny body, from its curled-up position exposing his height of six feet tall. He could feel what everybody else could, the very same malevolent and cold feeling that ran through his blood.

"It's beautiful." He said those were the first, no, the only words he could say. He just sat still, his arms laying on the back of the bench, looking at the moon admiring its beauty, like a man admiring a stripper. However, even though he could feel the same feeling as everybody else he felt comfortable and safe when he should feel a maddening fear even when he should feel cold as if he was in a blizzard, he felt warm and in euphoria. In its presence his heart felt a sense of thrill, as if he was a top of a roller coaster going down but safe because of the safety belt.

He sat there his eyes glanced with a sense of infatuation and intrigue while the very world was being transformed into a hell zone. But right at this moment was something he would never forget, just him and this blood moon. A moment where eternity lied.

"Kaes. KAES." A voice called out for someone; however the young man didn't even register it as his eyes remained focused on the moon and the palpitating feeling in his chest. Until finally he was being shook that his eyes moved from the moon and to see a beautiful young woman with blue eyes and blonde hair.

"Hey mom." He said his eyes glanced at her then back to the moon and right back to her when he saw the tears on her eyes threatening to fall. The worry in her face, and her tight hug conveyed a lot as he stood up and looked around and saw no light throughout the city of Miami, none, nada, zip, not a single light throughout all of Miami. Sure, it wasn't Las Vegas but no light was a sign for disaster.

"Blackout the f***." He whispered to himself. "Hey mom, mom, what's wrong." He said talking to her softly tears falling from her eyes. "Mom, calm down, it's okay." He said taking her hands into his own and began rubbing the back of her hands softly.

"The power went out, nobody knows exactly how far it spans, a cop with a radio said that people were getting killed all across Miami, some people were even using Molotov's." Her voice was low and soft with a Russian accent. "И, зная вас, я думал, что вы... (and knowing you, I thought you were…)"

"Давай, мама, тебе не нужно беспокоиться обо мне. (Come on mom, you ain't gotta worry about me). I'm straight. I was just looking at the moon, it's just really beautiful right now, more beautiful than I've ever seen." Kaes said while looking at the moon feeling the same comforting feeling as before. Following her son's lead, his mother looked at the blood moon and her pupils shrunk, her hair stood up, and her blood ran cold, however that all ended in one second as her pupils dilated to the point she would have looked like she was high, and her body became warm and comfortable.

Slowly but surely the next few minutes felt like an eternity as their brain didn't process any other sounds. They couldn't hear the screams of those who burned in flames or were r*****, nor the cries of the wandering children wondering where their parents were, they couldn't hear the roars of those beasts who were once called humans, they couldn't hear the sound of Madness, of Mayhem, of Violence, of True Chaos. They couldn't hear them, not because they didn't want to but because their minds were too occupied by the very beauty of the moon.

The moon slowly lost its reddish hue and with it their euphoria came to an end. The power was already coming back on throughout the country and slowly over the world. He slowly began snapping back to reality only to see fires raging around, to hear the cries of madness. Kaes woke up his mom and seeing her condition, coming off their euphoria, and being worried to death, simply said. "Пошли домой. (Let's go home.)"

And so, they left the park and headed home, only to see the results, the bodies and the children that filled the street. His mother looked sick as she saw and smelled burnt flesh, her eyes flooded with tears as she saw the children pulling upon the burnt clothes, their small hands shaking, as their eyes were filled with empty looks, as tears fell from their eyes. She didn't want to look, meanwhile Kaes just looked, his eyes filled with uncaringness as he calmly assessed the situation.

And he eventually reached a solution, he tapped his mom not hard, just enough to move her a millimeter and when she turned around to face him, tears glistened in her eyes. "Let's go, home is right there." He said looking at her. "If you can't handle the sight of it, don't look at them, just... look at me."

She just grabbed onto his arm tightly, as if to never truly let go, and closed her eyes as tears fell, for the lives that were lost, and for the great sorrow those who survived will have to live through. Their bodies moved quicker as they hurried back home to find out what happened all over the world. There were escaped prisoners, multiple plane crashes, riots, vandalism, and looting occurring all over the world, and hospitals had no power and were attacked, and a death count estimated close to 1 billion and counting. Some preexisting groups were talking about the end of days and very quickly those groups gained members en masse. All of this because of a blood moon that lasted 11 minutes and 6 seconds.
