Chapter 1 - PROLOGUE

*ringggggggggggggg*

The 6:30 am alarm jolted Jessica from her bedding before she came to realize that she was back from the world created by her dream. She was about to tuck herself into her duvet when she recalled her appointment, she immediately sat up, scrapping her head and yawning simultaneously. The little dark bag beneath her eyes could tell that she needed more sleep, and she was not bothered about it.

Jessica Adair was a hardworking young girl in her early twenties. She quickly attained her bachelor's degree in Journalism at a young age and started paving her way to work as a reporter for one of the best newspaper organizations, NewsNow Newspaper Organization, which was mostly known as NNN. She started as an intern, working as hard as she could to get an exclusive worthy enough to make the papers, and all these contributed to the factors that led to her exhausting daily routine. Her habit of staying up late also made it worse.

"Damn it, I have to get this one today," She said as she forced herself out of her bed, trudging towards her bathroom to take her bath. She followed the normal routine of brushing her teeth before forcing herself into the cold water protruding from the shower. Using the body wash and the soft sponge, she cleaned through her body, washing cleanly her breasts and armpits, before going to her lower body parts.

She was done after about thirty minutes, after which she dressed up and applied her makeup of a light foundation and lip gloss. She loosened the towel on her head, and rolled it down, styling it in a curly manner as she always loved it to be. She packed her work tools into her bag and headed for the kitchen to prepare her breakfast- Pancakes and Milk. It was what she had daily, she already deemed it to be the quickest thing she could make.

"Goodbye Jojo" She had poured the dog's food into its plate and said. It was already 7:30, and if she wasn't out, she was going to be late. Her workplace was a thirty-minute drive away, and that day was definitely not a day she would want to be caught slacking. She waved to Jojo and rushed out.

On her way to the crosswalk where she'd wait for the taxi, she slipped out her mobile and made a call, to her immediate younger brother who was still a high school student.

"Hello, Jason,"

After affirming the reply from him, she continued.

"How's everyone? Well, I just want to let you know that I will be dropping by this weekend, I've made some cash, and I want to drop something down for Dad's medical bill. I'll get back to you later, for now, I'm off to work. Do well to take care of yourself and Olivia. Bye"

Opening the door of the taxi that had just dropped by, she got in. "NewsNow"

The driver nodded and took off. That was the landmark as the organization was well known. After letting out a sigh, she began to scroll through her cell phone.

The cab stopped at the front of her workplace, and after handing over some cash to the driver, she ran out, heading for the door, and then into the building. Greeting anyone who passed her, she increased her pace and went to her boss's office located on the first floor.

At the front of the door, she let out a sigh, calming herself, then knocked on the door.

"Come in" The voice was as deep as ever.

Gently opening the door, she made way for the two who walked out, greeting them with a forced smile on her face.

"Ah… what exclusive do you have now, Jessie?" The bearded light-skinned shook his head. It was as if he was sure that she had one- She always did, begging for a space for her exclusive in the newspaper.

"Sir, I actually don't have one today….-"

"No wonder you're early today. What happened? No stories?" He said while reaching out for the line phone on the top right corner of his table

"No sir," She moved two steps closer. "Sir, I heard about the new tech organization that just surfaced, and I want to beg for a chance to let me interview"

"Oh? You want that?"

"Yes Sir!"

"And why should I give it to you" He held back the telephone before he made the call he wanted to.

"You have read my articles and you can tell that I'm more than fit for it, I mean, sir, just give me a chance today, please.." She clasped her palms, making a sort of cute face that almost made her boss completely not want to give her.

Mr. Davison let out a huge sigh after contemplating whether to give it to her or not.

"How sure are you that you could get a worthy story?"

"100 percent sure Mr Davison"

"Are you sure I won't regret making this decision?"

"Yes, Mr Davison!"

HE dropped the telephone he had in his hand and made a gesture for her to leave, "Go ahead"

'Yes!' Throwing her fist up in joy, she rushed out.
