Jessica waited for a few minutes, about ten, then thought to move ahead, at least, before her cover was blown by some other employee of the organization. She had found a little pathway beside that building and the wall, one that was hardly noticeable, no one would ever think of going there since it was that tight, however, her stature wasn't a big one either. It was at moments like that she thanked God for giving her such a little body.
She tiptoed towards that pathway, fitting herself in sideways. Since the pathway was always an unattended area, the sight of that little path was one to not behold. Mice ruffled away, at her presence, and she almost regretted stepping into that place, given her fear of crawling animals. But she didn't dare to make a sound. It was now a do-or-die matter, so she held her mouth tight with her palm, moving slowly toward the other end of the building. She thought she would be able to hear a thing or two from there, and to also get a better sight.
After about fifteen more minutes, she heard a creak, and the door opened up. She made sure to comport herself to prevent any suspicion that she was there. Se listened to their footsteps, to tell when they had all exited.
"Test Subject A is making quite good progress, at this rate, we may have a successful superhuman android sooner than we expected," A female voice deduced, her words fading in as she exited the room. The room was soundproof, so it was only so.
"Test subjects B and D would have to be monitored, they haven't improved much. There is no time it's a Four-month project, We only have till July, that's two months from now. The last month was hell as we couldn't do much, but since we see two or three of them making progress, we still have enough time…."
That was Gregory's voice. Jessica was eager to find out what big project they were working on, not because she was awaiting tomorrow's greatest invention, but because she was definitely going to score some huge points in her workplace. She planned to take out her cell phone to make recordings of their speech, and during that process, she made some rustling sounds that were loud enough for them to hear, and they did.
"What's that?"
Jessica froze instantly, her body shivering.
"Isla, go and check what that sound was," Gregory ordered the lady that was closer to the path.
Jessica instinctively started muttering prayers from her lips, sweat dripping from her face. Her greed gave her away, and her whole opportunity would be turned into her misfortune. She swore she should have just listened and gotten a glimpse of it while they were gone.
She could tell from the footsteps that the person was already unto her when a mouse that had run into the pathway got scared of her presence and ran out, coming out of where she stood.
"Oh, a rat"
Jessica let out a silent heavy sigh, thanking the rats that she hated. Well, she already had her phone, so she might as well let her greed take the whole of her, so she put on her cellphone, clicking on the sound recorder app, she began the recording.
Their discussions went on for about a quarter-hour more, and they began to leave. The pressure on her began to dissipate when she heard the jam of the door. She smiled, came out of the path, breathing more comfortably, she held her kneels in relief.
Wanting to take more breaks, she immediately rebuked the tempting thought. She immediately stopped the recording and now opened the timestamp camera application to keep records of that huge exclusive. No other Reporting organizations could have gotten a hold of that information, which definitely would raise their Newspaper Institute's rating.
She strode towards the door and moved her ear to the door. They were gone. She felt much more comfortable, but she still hadn't let her guard down, since anyone could make their way back to that outlet. She raised her phone, moving around the building, taking video recordings of the entire area.
"Here, we have a hidden research building belonging to PulseNow Technological Organization, the most recent and leading tech company we have now," She took some steps forward, then backward to increase the field of vision. "It may look filthy, and you may find it hard to believe that it is a part of PulseNow, but, when I exit this place to the main building, you'll get to see the fact."
She then walked towards the control panel that had the security lock hidden in it and said, "So, here, you can make out the lock of the entrance to that building. The passcode is," She said as she clicked on the numbers, "5, 8, 6, 8,"
Just as she inputted the passcode, she heard a beep that could tell that the door was opened.
"So, here we go," She paused as she returned to the entrance, and pulled the doorknob. Just as she anticipated, a huge amount of gas filled the screen of her phone, and she made her way in after she used her unoccupied hand to wave off the smoke from her sight.
She was now in, waiting for the gas to clear out of her sight. It didn't take long for that to happen, and she continued in her speech, "So here, we are going to be witnessing one of the most heart-thrilling inventions in his…-"
Now, the gas was all gone, and she could make out what was in the room. She didn't stop the recording, but she was stunned at what she just saw. In the room almost big enough to be used as a storehouse, were five tubes, laying slant to the wall. They were all connected through some sort of armored cabled wiring to a huge extension box connected to a socket. The tube's contents were bodies real enough to be mistaken to be the bodies of a real human, immersed in a greenish fluid. The tube only revealed the area of their faces to their shoulder, the rest being concealed by the metallic casing of the tube
"WOW! I mean, they mentioned the creation of superhuman android robots, but this is something else entirely. If you look at each of these tubes, you can see how real they look. I wish I could touch them to feel the skin, it is mindblowing. This is what PulseNow is capable of now, and I am sure they will be making greater creations later on,"
Jessica focused her camera on the five tubes, consisting of three male and two female androids, at least that's what she claimed them to be. She moved around the room, taking recordings and notes.
She walked towards the table at the center of the room, checking its contents, turning around once more to get one more glimpse of the specimen.
That was when she noticed an unusual movement from one of the subjects. She moved closer to it, observing it, when all of a sudden it opened its eyes suddenly. She jolted in shock, making a sharp move backward as her phone fell off her hand. What scared her more was the redness that filled its eyes, and at that point, she was no longer sure it was just a robot.
The subject turned its face to her, staring at her. The fear within her was rising, and she couldn't dare to look at the eyes again. It was Eerie. She immediately turned around to run, leaving her phone behind.
During that process, she tripped upon one of the armored cables and fell to the ground, one of the armored cables getting unplugged in that process. It caused a huge spark that also electrocuted Jessica, letting her yell out loudly, and also causing a disconnection in the rest of the tubes.
She was losing consciousness, but her left eye which was yet to close up completely could make out two of the test projects force its way out of that tube. Her mind completely blacked out after the sound of a siren, louder than the initial one came off, She had passed out, However, she could almost tell that she was lifted from the ground, but maybe, maybe she was already dreaming.
