Chapter 1

" You have brought so much disgrace to this family, how could I have raised a she-wolf like you in my humble home"

"Honey, I told you never to have brought this dog into this family,now she has soiled our family name, how will our friend and investors look at us now?

"Dad I have to go to a party next weekend, don't you think I'll be a complete laughing stock when they hear what my sister had done. I might as well die than ruin my reputation because of this witch"

Those words were like a stab into Cora's heart but they never amounted to what followed.

Blake Miller, a man she had always thought of as a father walked up to her and sent her a deafening slap across her cheeks making her fall to the ground.The whole world stopped at that moment and all Cora could see was the wicked grin plastered without shame on Kamira's lips

It was all she wanted, to see her cry and sulk without stopping, and now that her dreams were coming through,she felt she was surely the happiest person on Earth

Cora stared at the ground, her eyes filled with tears and her cheeks burning with pain, she had never imagined the her supposed father would ever treat her like this, anyone who would have told her this day would come would be insulted by her, she closed her eyes and tried hard to hold back her tears

"We can't just punish her like this honey, she has soiled our family name badly, it would be a crime if she stayed her for too long" Gabby had a disgusted tone in her voice but managed to disguise it perfectly

She was trying to kick her out, who would have believed she could be so bitter, but her supposed father's voice shocked her like an electric volt

"Thats not going to be a problem, Cora's going to pack her bags and leave this house for good"

The atmosphere in the house dropped a few degrees and everyone present looked at him in shock, some cleaned their ears to make sure they heard right. Everyone knew how much Blake loved Cora, though she was an adopted child,she held high places in his heart, thus the whole family was dumbfounded on his sudden change of attitude towards her, even if his daughter committed her same crime twice,he would never throw her out so harshly

Cora felt like she'd been slapped on the face, her supposed father's words stung her badly revealing a broken part in her heart, she stood up and wiped her tears before walking upstairs to do as told.

5 Years later

Cora woke up with a reasured smile ready to put the past behind her and focus in her future entirely leaving no place for negative thoughts

She cast a glare at the blinding sun and was about to stand up only to feel a small chubby hand holding onto her tightly

"Nancy, mommy has to go to work, she also needs to prepare a special food for you" Her voice was soft and sweet, surely for someone who was trained to put people to sleep. The little hands slipped away and instead a cute, beautiful and childish face eropted from under the bedsheet

"Do you have to go to work everyday mommy, can't they reward you with a day off" The voice of the chid was cute and playful but was spoken with a hint of maturity, many would wonder how a four year old talked so maturly

"Mommy can't take a day off, she still has to take care of you and pay Aunty May everyday to look after you" Cora tried to look for different reasons to stand up from her bed that morning, it was true that Nancy was too mature for her age but she really missed having her mom around, she couldn't even remember the last time her mother had taken her out to play

"I told you I don't need Aunty May to take care of me anymore, I can bath myself and dress up without her help, I could even help with work at your job too, school are for kids anyways" Nancy pouted her lips angrily while praising herself like she was a young empiress, it was the same a cub threatening he could roar when all he could do was shout a loud squeak

Cora looked at her with amusement before getting out of the bed carefully,she didn't want to sit on any of Nancy's bones as they were covered with the bedsheet

She pecked Nancy on her forehead before leaving for the parlour which was just a step out of the room she was in

Her phone suddenly rang and after taking it form Nancy's hands, she picked it up only to hear a loud scream

"Hey bestie!"Mona's sweet but loud voice echoed through the speakers of the phone making Cora close her ears quickly so she wouldn't go deaf

"Can you please lower your voice next time, you almost damaged my ears"Cora said with a frown on her face, she really wasn't angry with her best friend, she was already used to her chidishness

"Sorry, I just wanted to ask if you've checked your E-mail, there may be a surprise package waiting for you"Mona said softly but excitedly, she had meant to surprise her friend but it wasn't a surprise she had ruined it her self

"A surprise? I don't understand"Cora spoke confusingly before going through her E-mail for recent messages, her eyes sparkled in shock as she read the written words

"Hey bestie, are you still there or have you fainted already "Mona rolled her eyes and annoyingly said

"Mona, what..." She was beyond words

"So what do you think, shopping or no shopping" Mona excitedly asked from the other end

" For what exactly" Cora furrowed her brows in confusion

" Its not something to talk about, action speaks louder than words, drop Cora at school quickly, I'll come pick you up there" Mona said and cut the call almost to immediately but Cora was to happy to notice

"Nancy, mommy just got called for an interview, Aunt Romona is going to take me out shopping so we need to be quick okay" Cora bent down and held Nancy's chubby small hand tightly

"Yes mommy, does that mean you would be play with me later, that's after you've gotten the job" Nancy looked at her with renewed hope and Cora's nod made her breath out a relived smile

Mommy and daughter did everything quickly and walked to the bustop to take Nancy to school

"Miss Miller, your finally here,I was about to call you to check if Nancy is ill" Miss Flora gave Cora a welcoming smile

" Sorry for our lateness Miss Flora, I woke up late today" Cora explained a little embarrassed,she knew she was the one who made Nancy late today, it was all her fault

She pecked Nancy's chubby face lovingly and held her hands

"You will have to promise Mommy you would be a good girl in class today okay"She said in her sweet and soft voice , it was enough to make someone fall in love with her at an instant

"I won't fight if they don't stare up trouble for me Mommy"Nancy face crumpled and her fists clenched angrily, she was really bothered about her mates mocking her for not having her father and had fought with a boy in her class who asked her if her father had ever carried her on his neck, when she said she didn't have a father, he laughed and insulted her by calling her a basterd and a wild child who would never be loved, she left a revealing scar on the boys face and was very proud of it though her mom was very angry with her when she found out, she always learnt to stand up for herself and would never fail to do so when it came to people mocking her or her mother

Cora looked at Miss Flora sadly before smiling at Nancy

" But Mommy's going to be very sad if you fight anyone, your last fight almost got her into trouble the other day" She mumbled softly looking for the effect on Nancy's face and not to her surprise Nancy showed a concerned look, she loved her mommy very much and would do anything to make her happy, soon she left her mom and followed the other kids to class since she was already familiar with its direction

Cora talked to Miss Flora for a while before turning back only to here a shout from someone not to far from her

"Cora, oh my gosh there you are" Mona ran up to her and gave her an excited hug."Come with me,my car's not to far from here"She dragged her along with her before walking to her car

"How's my baby doing"Mona asked while jumping into the driver's seat happily, Cora gave her a smile

"She's doing well but is still getting into fights, I've asked her what the problem is but.... She doesn't want to talk about it, I feel she's hiding something from me" Cora sighed

"Isn't she?"Mona made a funny face and Cora looked at her annoyed, son they burst into laughter, they were best friends since highschool and would do anything for each other, if not for Romona Adams Cora would have lived on the streets, and that incident with her supposed family only brought them closer

"Don't worry, I'm sure she'll tell you, just keep trying"Mona assured her and Cora nodded, once she got this job she would give her the best of life there is.
