Along the well lit streets of Ignalis a short human girl in a simple maid clothes walked with shakes and fast steps. A fear was evident on her face as she strode through the streets, whatever she was looking for eluding her.
Her face gradually became more and more fearful as her search continued. With the night slowly approaching, and no information brokerage establishments in sight, she turned down an alley way to make her way back to the embassy where she would surely be punished.
But just as she crossed through the alleyway she found what she was looking for, an information broker. walking into the establishment, The human girl walked uptown the counter which housed a shabby looking Demonblood behind it.
"Can I please get information about the large stone door along the main street?" the blond haired maid asked the man behind the counter.
"yeah, sure. but what you paying with? it's gotta be of equal value." the demon blood lazily replied.
with some distress on her face, the maid dug around in some hidden pockets of woven into the dress. after a minute she fished out a gold coin bearing the face of an old man with a half broken mask. "will this do?"
snatching the coins away, The demon blood introduced himself, "Hello little missy, my name is Chase. the door at the main road has stood there sense before Ignalis was founded, an within the last week it started to open periodically. Each time its layout is different, as if its slowly growing stronger off the dead adventurers who enter."
"the only problem with this is that the growth to dead adventurers is not equal. in addition to these facts multiple religious factions have become... interested in the doors. The followers of Ormr have always claimed them as the door to gods paradise." Chase said while inspecting the coin he was given.
with the information gathered, the head maid started to walk out of the store. Only stoping at the door for a moment to turn around and say, "the names Lily," before leaving the building.
returning late, Llily was smacked for her insolence but then praised for the quicker gathering of information, getting a piece of bread for her work. but her bread and reprieve where short lived, as the next morning she was once again sent out to hire adventurers to destroy the gates.
At the same time, just one layer deeper into the city then the main road, a procession of Priests of Ormr slowly walked out from their temple. Making their way towards the massive stone doors that where at least twenty feet tall.
walking through the open door to the Adventurers Guild, Lily made her way to the front desk. "hello, I would like to post a job."
taking out a piece of paper the desk lady, who had long ears and silver hair acentuated by a golden hair pin of modest design and quality, before asking, "whats the job?"
"I need a group or individual to cause the destruction of the large doors, or at least make a very showy attempt at it, enough to satisfy the one who sent me." Lily responded with what she thought Allad would best reward her with.
While Lily was afraid of Allad due to all of his harsh punishments and verbal abuse, she was not afraid of other random strangers. Lily had used to be a adventerer on temporary contract with the holy city when she failed her half of the agreement.
The holy city had hidden a clause within their deal, that if she and her party failed they would have to become temporary slaves until they had done enough work to pay off their debt. but that day had still not come after the last five years.
The arrow was released as its wooden body was propelled across the room and into the neck of a healer, while the rest of the party, previously consisting of five, escaped the dungeon with their lives and a huge portion of gold.
Their excitement short lived as when they excited, they where met with the angry glare of many Followers of Ormr, who while clearly angry kept their temper. "Please... move from the front of the door."
Not wanting to get on the followers bad side the small group made their way off to the side. Only for a loud explosion to rock the sky above the with shockwaves and shades of red, orange, and a myriad of shades between.
the massive explosion, enough to bring down a large stone building, had done nothing to the stone doors but send everyone around it to the ground. its smooth plain presence standing firm in the face of the explosion.
just down the street talking with some Matrona ladies, Allads expression grew angry for a second as he saw the large explosion fail. while the dark expression was only across his face for a second at most, its ugliness scared the two young matron away.
'Damn it, damn it, damn it. Damn it all. what is that stupid door to defy ME the holy prince of the holy city of Light and my mission!' While his officially stated purpose was to investigate the door, his father ,Allad Von Light IV, had told him to destroy the blasphemous gate if possible.
such holy artifacts of face gods could not be allowed to stand. And yet the gates that had been attributed to Ormr had stood tall and unbothered by the large blast.
Inside the gate, Skuggir was oblivious to the enemy he had somehow gained without even doing anything against them. Sugar was doubly oblivious to the ally he gained in the followers of Ormr as well.
inspecting the lost gold, Skuggir tallied up how much he needed to Make to replace his losses, a truly small amount compared to the rest of his expenses so far.
With his power growing almost as fast as his list of enemies, Skuggir and his beloved dungeon where now in the crossfire of a face off between two of the most influential religions in the region.
