Chapter 45 - poultry soup

Nivik was unwilling to give up.

Anvika leaned back in her chair, a triumphant smile spreading across her face. She had just made a move that had successfully thwarted Nivik for the third time in their chess game. "I escaped from you again, Nivik. That's three times now. You know what that means—it's time for you to complete my task."

Nivik said, "No, it's your second time; you have one more chance."

Anvika said, "No, it's cheating; it was the third time."

"What is the proof?" Nivik enquired.

Anvika became enraged and began punching him; "you are lying, idiot."

Levi and Daksh were perplexed as to why Anvika had beaten him and why they had argued.

With a bewildered tone, they said, "What's going on guys?"

Before either Nivik or Anvika could respond, Neena emerged from the kitchen, balancing a tray laden with food. "Oh, you mean the soup deal," she said, setting the tray down on the table. "Mom made poultry soup for Nivik this morning, but he refused to take it, Anvika had dared Nivik's brother to finish the dowl if Anvika managed to escape from his moves in the chess game at least three times. "

Levi and Daksh examined the doily that was set up next to the table.

Levi and Daksh turned their attention to Neena, eager for more information. She continued, a playful smile on her lips. "So, Anvika made a bet with Nivik. If she escaped from him three times in their chess game, he would have to finish the soup. And now, it looks like Nivik has to pay up."

Anvika nodded, her eyes twinkling with mischief. "That's right. A bet's a bet, Nivik. You've got to finish the soup."

Nivik nodded his head saying," no ".

Anvika was in anger ," you...".

Nivik looked at her in playfully.

.....

Although Sarah cooked him some and requested to have some in the morning, Nivik genuinely detested the poultry soup.

With Arya's assistance, Anvika also entered the room and saw Nivik rejecting the soup that Sarah had made for him.

Afterwards, she informed Sarah that she would force Nivik to consume the soup Sarah had prepared for him.

Later, Sarah and Arya exited the room, leaving Nivik and Anvika alone.

"I won't eat that soup no matter what you do; you can have it". Nivik said.

" Nivik, stop acting like a child and just have it."

" No. "

After Anvika battled with Nivik about drinking soup, Nivik refused. Anvika then came up with a strategy and asked if Nivik wanted to play a game with her.

"Consider playing a game."

"Game?, of course. If you're available to beat me, I'll do anything you want of me. If you lose, however, you have to pay attention to what I have to say." Nivik spoke up, knowing that Anvika would not leave him until he finished the soup.

A bit alarmed, Anvika asked him what game he suggested she play.

Grinning malevolently Nivik said, "Chess."

Nivik picked chess to play with Anvika since he knew she wasn't very good at it.

"You are aware that I am not very skilled at that game; how can I beat you at it? "

After giving it some consideration, Nivik answered, "Okay, then either defeat me or escape from my moves at least three times."

After giving it some consideration, Anvika told him it was OK and sat down to play a game of chess.

Neena remarked as soon as she heard their conservation. " Anvika You can do that, and I'll watch the game as a monitor to make sure nobody cheats."

"Okay, then I'm in" , Anvika replied.

Since Nivik was a skilled chess player, she persuaded her to play a game with him.

Neene watched as Nivik and Anvika engaged in the game. Anvika managed to get away from him twice.

Neena was pleased by Anvika's two victories and believed that Anvika would undoubtedly overcome Nivik. She stood up and said, "You guys go on, I'll be back."

Neena went to fetch Nivik some supper later on.

....

After Anvika won the game for the third time, Nivik urged that they should play again.

Neena arrived immediately and offered Anvika comfort. "Yes, I saw her sneak away from you three times, so you know she's already won her wager. Let's get this resolved."

Nivik said, "No, she needs to beat me," without providing any evidence. He moved right away to make his next move.

"Demon, it's your turn. "

Levi and Daksh, still seated nearby, watched the exchange with growing curiosity. "You two are really something," Levi remarked, shaking his head with a laugh. "Always turning everything into a competition."

Anvika leaned forward, her competitive spirit ignited. "Fine, Nivik. If that's how you want it, we'll play another round. But when I beat you this time, you have to finish the entire bowl without any complaints."

Nivik smirked, picking up the chess pieces and resetting the board. "Deal. But don't think I'm going to go easy on you just because you're my best friend."

The tension in the room shifted as they prepared for the new game, the playful challenge adding a lively spark to the atmosphere. Levi and Daksh settled in to watch, intrigued by the unfolding drama.

Neena, enjoying the lightheartedness of the moment, teased her brother. "You'd better watch out, Nivik. Anvika's been on a winning streak tonight."

Nivik shot her a playful glare. "We'll see about that."

As the game commenced, the room was filled with a quiet intensity, the only sounds being the clinking of chess pieces and the occasional murmured comment. Anvika's eyes were fixed on the board, her mind working rapidly to outmaneuver Nivik. For his part, Nivik was equally focused, determined not to lose again.

As the game progressed, it became clear that both were equally matched, each move met with a counter-move, each strategy thwarted by the other's quick thinking. The spectators watched in silence, their interest piqued by the intense concentration and skill on display.

Anvika grinned slyly as she glanced at the chess board. " Remember what you said this time."
