Chapter 6 - River Town

Looking down the road, a few things quickly came to the eyes of Dharen. Firstly, the sheer number of people, each one looking different, there being many varying styles of clothing that all of the people wore, the mix of colour, design and style reminded Dharen of the few major cities that he had been to back on Earth, where people from all over the world would come and gather for work, or where they would have been promised a better life, not that may of them would have gotten it though.

Ignoring the people for a moment, his eyes refocused onto the building themselves, all of them were made of stone, some being smooth stones, and the rest looked like there were made of some kind of a stone brick, all having a distinct light grey colour, if it wasn't for the colourful banners, flags and paintings that had been put up, or drawn onto these walls it would have looked far more dull compared to all of the people who were stylishly dressed up.

Aside from the people who were walking up and down the road however, there did not seem to be much traffic as he would have expected from what appeared to be such a prosperous looking place. There were no carts, nor could he see any kind of merchants who were trying to sell their wares on the street. In that sense it seemed to be eerily empty, but then again it could also be just as likely that all of these merchants were instead in their own shops and that is where all of the business would be occurring.

Finally deciding to take a few steps forwards, Dharen began to work out in his head what he would need to do while he was here, the arrow was still pointing onwards, and inside he knew that this would not be the end of his journey to find the survival that had been promised to himself.

So for now he needed to do a couple of things, one was make some money of which he planned on using the armour and weapons that he had worn and taken from that battlefield, he would try and sell them off and get some money. Then following this, some clothes and finally find a place where he could have a nice hot bath and some hot food, before finally finding a place to rest his head for the night.

His plan in mind, he began to walk down the road, his eyes looking left and right for any kind of blacksmith or weapon or armour shop, anything really that appeared as if it would buy the armour that had off of him, so that he could have some kind of money.

The people here though, that he had noticed earlier, all were starting to stare at him as he walked by, some of the older people as well as the children that had noticed him pointed and began to talk amongst themselves in hushed whispers as if they had seen something that was rare and different to there day to day lives.

The attention that he was getting soon began to make Dharen feel awkward and out of place, it must have been the armour he thought as he walked further and further down the street as he tried to find a place that would buy what he had to sell.

Finally, after walking for a further few minutes he had found what looked like a blacksmith to himself where he was hoping to sell off the armour that he wore as well as the dagger that he had picked up from the battlefield where had first found himself when he had arrived into this cursed world.

Walking over to the entryway, he could hear the rhythmic hammering of metal, that too accompanied by fresh billowing smoke wafting its way out of the chimney that was located within the stony grey tiled roof.

Peeking his head through the doorway, it was not a smithy that greeted his eyes, but instead it was a shop, the shop though having an assortment of metal goods which were on displace to be sold, with a variety of markings underneath them, or on the goods themselves, which he assume indicated the cost for which they were meant to be sold at.

Ignoring all of this, he walked over to the counter where a young man was looking at the floor in boredom playing some kind of game with his hands, though whatever he was doing did not seem to be anything that Dharen could recognise from Earth.

The young man soon stopped his game as he heard the footsteps which were getting closer to himself. He slowly looked up, allowing for Dharen to see the boredom which was etched into his eyes, though as the man's eyes focused onto who was in front of him, he took a step in surprise, as his eyes widened and mouth opened slightly, almost as if he was stuck in state of shock and surprise.

Having had quite a few of these looks now, from moving through the town, Dharen was able to shake it off for the most part and just looked at the man, who was stuck in the mixed state.

The silence stayed as it was for a minute before Dharen who found himself getting bored, moved a little closer to the counter and placed down the dagger onto the table with a small thud.

"I want to sell this, and the armour that I am wearing to you. Is that possible?" The man after staring for a few more minutes looked down and the dagger and ran his hand across it, and looking up and the armour he hummed to himself for a few seconds.

"We can buy it, but I will have it as the metal this is made from. We have no use of weapons or armour here. So I can only give you 80 shillings for it all." His voice was soft, surprising Dharen for a few moments, but seeing as though a price had been offered at least for the armour and weapon, he nodded his head, and proceeded to take off the armour and place that down onto the counter with the dagger.

Under the armour, he just had some simple clothing on, earning another odd glance from the young shopkeeper, who after a few more seconds, just shrugged his shoulders, passing over a bag of what sounded like metal coins.

Taking these in hand, Dharen turned around and left the shop, his first task now finally having been done.

As he walked out of the shop however, he soon heard a soft voice. "Mummy, see there he is! I told you! There is a man with golden eyes!"

Looking over at the voice, Dharen had hoped to see whatever this young child was talking about, but instead he found the young girl pointing directly at home, with her apparent mother looking at him in shock and surprise like many others had done, since he had arrived here.

This led to only one thought echoing through his mind.

My eyes are golden?
