Chapter 7 - Golden Eyes?

"What do you mean? How could my eyes be golden? That is not possible, I am just a normal person like everyone else, and normal people do not have golden eyes." Dharen said with a soft smile as he looked down at the little girl.

As he spoke however, a lady in a long dark blue dress ran over and picked up the girl by her arms. "What did I tell you? You are not meant to go near any of the strangers while they are here! Especially if their eyes are of a different colour or if they are wearing any kind of really fancy clothes!"

Looking at the lady weirdly again, Dharen wondered why she too was saying that his eyes were of a different colour, when that was not possible at all.

"Excuse me, but how can my eyes be golden? I am just a normal person."

Hearing his voice, the lady looked over at him sharply. "I do not know what kind of world or place that you think this is, but if you say such idiocracy again, I will make sure you are dragged out of here. You are most definitely not human with those eyes, and stay away from my DAUGHTER!" As she yelled out the last word, she turned around almost running away while she was carrying her child in her arms.

Feeling very confused and bewildered, Dharen began to walk further down the street, noticing more now, the eyes that were following him as he was walking. In his mind, he was slowly beginning to make sense of the way everyone had been reacting to him, but the sheer fact that his eyes were in fact golden, was something that he could not bring himself to believe in at all.

Soon enough he reached what appeared to be the tailors in which he would be able to buy himself some clothes with the shillings that he had been given, he did not really know how much there were worth though, so he hoped he could buy something that at least made him more appealing.

As he entered into the tailors a soft ding of a bell echoed around the shop, which was soon followed by the shuffling of feet, as someone made their way through from the back of the shop, to where he was at the entrance. The clothes that were inside of the tailors had stunned him into silence however. There were so many differing colours and styles, each one as vibrant as the last, and even the clothes that had a far cooler colour, still seemed to appeal to his heart in a contrasting way, compared to how he felt for the vibrant colours.

The shopkeeper soon came around the corner, and like that of the wears which they had on display, she too had a perfectly fitted dress on, which would draw the eyes of anyone to herself.

The lady, seeing Dharen was startled for a momentary second, then regaining her composure, she walked forward boldly. "So how can I help you today sir? Or rather what is it that you have come here for per say?"

Looking around Dharen was not sure what to answer, he thought it would have been obvious that he had come here for clothes, then again back on Earth the shop keepers would not normally have asked this, unless you had gone to them for help first, at least that was the case for when he actually bothered to go and buy clothes in a shop and not just order them for himself online.

The shopkeeper, seeing his unwillingness to answer the question that she had asked, tried not to frown and she pushed him a bit more. "Travel clothes, formal wear, or maybe a ball you are heading to?"

As she asked her question, Dharen was able to finally realise what she had meant, but still he was not fully sure how he should have been answering the question at hand as he did not really know what he would need in the first place.

The lady, though could not help but get more and more irritated as he thought, in her mind she was not stopping as she ranted on at how, he was some person stuck in the past of when his kin ruled all of these lands and far more in their realm.

Finally speaking, Dharens deep voice caught her guard for a minute as he did not sound or speak in an arrogant way but still, the impression that he had unknowingly built for himself already was leading to the lady seeing as nothing more than an entitled man.

"I need some formal wear, and some travel clothes but can I get all of that for 50 shillings?" He asked with some caution, as well as leaving himself some money for his food and lodging later on in the day, as well as some spare money for the future.

The lady in question, in her mind hearing his words began to smirk, she had suddenly realised that he did not know at how much his money was actually worth. Normally she would charge around 10 shillings for a well fitted set of travelling clothes and 15 for the formal wear but now…

"I can do that for 40 shillings, you need not give me the whole 50." She said with a perfect smile, not letting him know at all that she was ripping him off.

Dharen, oblivious to the truth of the exchange that was at hand, just nodded his head and counted out the money before giving it over to the lady.

The shillings themselves were silver. On one side of the coin it was marked with what looked like a bank, as well as some writing that made no sense to him at all, on the other side was the head of someone who again he did not know.

The lady after ensuring that the money was indeed the correct amount, soon got to work in taking his measurements, then after finding some an outfit of each type that Dharen liked she got to work quickly adjusting the size, as well as the fit so that he could be gone, and so that he would became none the wiser and what was happening.

Soon enough she was done, the formal wear being black, with a silver trim and the travel clothes being made from a mixture of leathers as well as a black fabric like that of the formal clothes. Dharen, having changed into these, looked back at the lady before he left.

"Thank you, and do you know where I could find somewhere to stay for the night?" He had said this while smiling, further confusing the lady and that if her opinion of him was correct or not.

Answering him swiftly nevertheless, she pointed to the left and said, "There is a tavern that serves good food and will offer you a place for the night, is that everything?"

Dharen nodded, and went to leave but then he remembered about his and looking back he asked. "Are my eyes really golden? If they are, why is everyone reacting so weirdly to me?"

The lady just looked at him confused.

"You don't know?" She almost screamed as she replied.
