Chereads / Two Petals of Demons / Chapter 18 - Lost in the Chaos and Madness

Chapter 18 - Lost in the Chaos and Madness

It was clear to everyone, that they had all lost their minds. From Nanami's perspective, all he could see were three individuals who erupted their insanity from the raw power of the masters that they serve. All that was present on his mind at that point was to calm down the three individuals.

"Hunt, you say. What do you mean by that?", Nanami questioned the Servant of Arawn.

Arawn: Do not answer him, my favourite. All this being seeks is to ruin the harmony that is present between you and me. All I need you to continue being is the most powerful version of yourself. To make sure that you get out of this battle victorious.

"EVERYONE JUST SHUT UP!!". That was the roaring scream across the battlefield by an unknown figure. Fading away into the night sky, the blood moon lightened the nearby battlefield with its red aura.

All Nanami could think of was the new mess that he was going to have to clean up. "Again and again and again and again. How many mess-ups do I need to clean up?", exasperated at his life choices and the role that both the demons and the gods had chosen for him. "I didn't become one of the chosen ones just to help clear everyone else's messes. Who is there to clean up after me? No one…. Bloody no one. I am all alone in this world that is filled with monsters and enemies… all after me." Nanami's fuming anger vented in the form of swift actions blocking all of the attacks by Radal.

The setting of the battlefield was now clear. Present on the extremities were Gil and Sakurai pretty much lying unconscious after the spilling had taken place. The field is covered with sand that even merely touching can cause you to rapidly age, becoming closer and closer to death. The very structure of this space was on the verge of collapsing due to individuals abusing their power.?

But in reality, what exactly is their power to abuse here? Everything is controlled by the gods, every action seems to be already pre-determined. Then what is this feeling, that I am just unable to shake off…

I can't seem to put my finger on this fight. Why exactly are all these people fighting?

Wasn't harmony already achieved, with Nanami being both the Avatar of Paimonia and the Servant of Benzaitan? He was the teacher. However, even he cannot control the laws that govern this world.

Perhaps even I am unable to, for all I can do is narrate this story. I am just a lonesome pawn made to watch this chaos, for even I cannot interfere in this fight.

"JUST SHUT UP! I ALREADY KNOW THAT ARAWN. I JUST NEED TO END THIS MAN, AND EVERYTHING WILL BE FULFILLED, RIGHT??" Radal proceeded to howl at the night sky as if he were channelling the energy of the blood moon to call upon his strongest form.

People who hunt for bounties are always interesting creatures, especially those who have the powers of gods on their side. When that takes place, it becomes very difficult for a person to turn the other side and run away, for you cannot hide from an entity like god. All you can do is face it, try your best to negotiate withiti, or kill it.

The word "Hunt" has already been initiated by Radal… in turn means that he can only end this frenzy mode of his, until those conditions are met, at least with Arawn.

From basic fists to the use of the staffs that they had in battle, it was just a defensive hold from Nanami's side, and Radal trying his best to hold the offensive position on the battlefield.

Dust and debris flew everywhere, with Nanami trying to retain his composure to keep his stamina up.

Arawn: This man seems to know a little more than just the truth of this world. I think he may also know about the stupid creatures that exist in the sky. Fear not, my servant. All I need you to do is get him into a hold, and I will do the rest. Time for the effect of our bond as well as the petal to have the full effect.

Darting like a homed-in target, Radal's cornea focused on a sole object, to grasp the knave's nape.

That was all that mattered to him. Grabbing the knave, Nanami's neck.

Nanami channelled in his Avatar state, for that was the only thing that was going to be able to rival a power attained by an enraged Servant.

Avatars are different from Servants.

While a Servant can directly communicate with the god once they have consumed the petals grown by the flower, Avatars have no chance to communicate or ask for any form of advice from their Demons.

However, with that loss, Avatars also receive something like an Avatar State… granting them immunities from major physical and elemental trauma, as well as the ability to provide constant feedback to your connected demon; in hopes that the demon takes notice of you and is willing to join the battle to aid you.

As you can guess, that has a very low statistical chance of taking place. All that can majorly happen is the stat buffs that you gain.

Radal exclaimed, "It becomes all a game for you, huh?! I can't believe anything!"

"You have to. I am the Avatar of Paimonia, and I will make you bow down to me.", Nanami calmly exclaimed, drawing his scabbard now present in his chest belt. "All I need you to do is firstly calm down. I do not want to hurt you, I just want to know some details."

Radal looks around at the battlefield. All he sees is dust and debris that have enveloped the two individuals in a thick fog, preventing anyone from seeing what is going on inside.

Outside the battle, Gil and Sakurai still remain unconscious, but there's one massive smile that seems to be lurking in the shadows, waiting for the correct opportunity to strike these individuals and to make sure that everything maintains this natural order.

This situation has reached a point where I feel nothing is natural.

It has reached a point, where due to its unnaturalistic environment, it has turned natural for the inhabitants of this planet. They do not know what is the difference between what is right for them, and what is wrong for them.

The new norm for them has been formed.

All in days.

And the catalyst for this entire incident to spiral out of control?

That was all Gil confessing his love for Sakurai to the council.

That was all that was required to turn this world from a stable, status-quo environment, to a place where the Sensei is now battling someone who was meant to be already dead.

What even is this planet?

Why are we even doing the things that we are supposed to be doing?

Why don't we do things that we shouldn't do?

Have I eaten my lunch yet?

All questions… that I do not have an answer for. It infuriates me, but I can only narrate the story spun by the writer.

It cannot be overwritten or overruled, just made to be extremely ineffective in driving the plot further and further.

It seems that there is very little progress, but there is always so much to state about a singular incident.

It is almost as if each incident explained in great detail an accord for the different timelines that it could generate just by existing.

The new timelines, where everyone is happy and living life peacefully, or timelines where everyone has become so corrupted, that they realized the mistake of their actions and proceeded to cause mass extinction… that seems miserable.

Thoughts start to flood into Nanami's mind. Each incorrect move that he makes, could cost him his life.

While not being physically immortal, he is still innately.

Radal now enraged at everything continues his fury of slashes at Nanami. Each with more potency than the previous. Nothing on his mind could get over the fact that he could be easily captured by them.

Maturity seemed to hit Radal at that exact time. All he could do was think about how he could aggravate the situation even more to escape using his ship.

"Those two children… they've taken it", Radal informed the field.

"Taken what?"

"The crushed petals. Those two are not normal anymore. They have reached meta-stab-able states. They can communicate. I suspect that you are the main teacher, the one who is heading the alliance's faction. I can sense that from your aura itself. Only someone capable of wielding both sides would even be able to match up with me.

The two of them jumped to the edges of the storming battlefield and threw their weapons like javelins like the other.

Crash..

The third broke the two staffs airborne.
