Chapter 18 - Chapter 18 – A Baby Dark Wolf

Third person POV

Inside the dungeon, they are now traversing through its dark and poorly lit corridors. Russell had the map for navigation. Any danger of being attacked is high and can strike at any time, so they became vigilant of their surroundings. According to the map, the dungeon had 3 veins, with 3 rooms each, and all of them are inhabited by monsters like Brown Scorpions and Dark Wolves. So, it will be a dangerous quest for them to do. But they are determined to do so.

As they went through, Russell, who was holding the fire torch in one hand and the map in the other, commented on how dungeons can be more or less dangerous and hard. "Yes, it was," responded Azalea back. "Dungeons are dangerous, but they are tests for an adventurer's strength and skills." Russell got it fast.

And then, they arrived at the first room of the first vein, and 2 Brown Scorpions greeted them with hostility. "What the…?" Russell responded to this with alert, before unsheathing his sword. Azalea then wielded her magical staff and used her ice magic to shroud it in ice.

"Careful," she warned, "these scorpions can paralyze the nervous system when you get stung."

Russell got it. "Alright, let's do this carefully."

Azalea then nodded as the two big scorpions hissed at them.

And so, both of them lunged at the two monsters.

The two scorpions lunged their poisonous stinging tails in response.

But, Azalea froze the stinging tail of one of them.

This causes it to growl in pain and partially unable to fight back, leaving the second one to fight the two adventurers.

Russell then sliced the end part of the tail of the second scorpion, causing it to growl in pain.

As the sliced tail hit the ground with a mild thud, Russell landed on the ground in action.

"Wow, that was cool!" he looked at Azalea.

"Thanks," replied Azalea happily as she looked at her ice-shrouded sword.

Seeing her staff, Russell was amazed and thought that it was cool.

"She is a mage after all..." he thought.

But then, it wasn't over. The first scorpion regained its focus and hissed and growled at them. Russell and Azalea heard that and looked at it.

 "Oh, no…"

 "Let's take this down together!"

And so, they both readied their weapons once more and lunged at it.

When the first Brown Scorpion was about to hit Russell with one of its legs, Russell immediately used his metal compartment door as a shield.

It did the trick, and the door itself was so hard that it sent a sharp pain towards that Brown Scorpion, causing it to growl in pain.

Azalea saw that and was stunned at Russell's smartness.

Russell smiled at her with confidence for a bit before focusing back on the fight.

The young bus driver aimed for the first Brown Scorpion's eyes and slashed them fast and clean, blinding it.

And then, Azalea fired ice magic on its chest, and Russell sliced off its head, finishing the venomous beast off.

They then both finished the first scorpion, too.

The first room of the first vein was now cleared by them.

"Yes!" Russell was happy with celebration. "We did it!"

Azalea then smiled. "Yup, we did it as a team."

She and Russell then shared a high-five together as a team, before a door in front of them opened up for them, indicating that they had, indeed, cleared out the first room.

So, seeing that made Russell assume that they were now allowed to move on to the next room.

And because of that, Azalea then put down her magical staff, and Russell sheathed his sword before both of them continued on to the next room.

The next part of the vein to the second room is a bit longer than the previous one. Russell was as excited as before to finish the rest of the quest with his first party member. After much walking, they arrived at the second room, where a pair of big Dark Wolves were waiting for them. The two wolf beasts growled at them with hostility, and this prompted the small party to wield their weapons once more. Azalea then prepared her magical staff with ice magic once again. "This looks hard," Russell replied as he readjusted his bus driver's cap and readied his sword.

Azalea nodded. "Yes, but we can do this together."

Russell then agreed with her.

And so, Russell lunged towards the two wolf beasts with his sword while Azalea fired ice magic at their feet, disabling them from moving.

The two Dark Wolves were angry that they couldn't move, growling loudly.

Russell then slashed the neck of the first Dark wolf, causing blood to gush out of it.

That wolf then growled in pain and collapsed on the floor dead, with its feet glued in ice.

Azalea then finished off the second Dark Wolf by firing ice shards at it, causing its death.

And so, they had defeated the two Dark Wolves, and the door to the next vein was opened for them.

They were both happy that they had cleared the second room, and Azalea put down her magical staff once again.

Russell then looked around, before sheathing his sword.

But then, they are about to continue venturing into the next room when suddenly, they heard some cries of a puppy coming from a small cave carved into the stone wall of the room. Curious, Russell and Azalea took a closer look at the said cave. Then, they saw a small, baby Dark Wolf curled up in a ball while crying and being scared. It must have seen the deaths of the two Dark Wolves Russell and Azalea just killed moments ago.

"That's a baby Dark Wolf," Azalea said to Russell.

Russell then nodded. "You're right. It must have been traumatized by what we did to its parents, I think."

So, out of concern for it, both the adventurer and the self-proclaimed adventurer-bus driver reached out for it.

"Are you okay?" one of them asked it.

Upon hearing that, the baby Dark Wolf's ears perked up, and it looked at them. "Please…don't hurt me," it, a male baby Dark Wolf, begged them.

"It's okay, we won't hurt you," Azalea said to it.

Then, the baby Dark Wolf started to open itself up and went closer to the two adventurers, coming out of its cave.

"I won't hurt both of you," it said to them with puppy eyes.

"Don't worry," Russell happily responded back, "we won't either."

"I'll do anything for both of you. I'll even tell both of you where are the other rooms, too."

"Um, is that even cheating?" Azalea asked it.

"I know, but it's the least thing I can do for you."

Russell and Azalea contemplate for a while but eventually agree with it.

"Great!" the baby Dark Wolf smiled. "Can you be my owner, too?"

"Sure thing!" Russell readily replied back. "I'll name you John."

Azalea agrees, and the baby Dark Wolf, now known as John, embraces her and Russell as its new owners, as if he was a pet to them.

So, Russell picked John up and carried him in his arms. "Alright, show us where the other rooms in this dungeon are."

John nodded, and the three of them continued on through the dungeon as John leads the way.
