"So you hold the chicken like that and *SPLAT* cut its neck off in a single slash," Billy said as he demonstrated, then he looked at me and brought out another chicken from the cage.
"But since your small hand doesn't have enough strength you do it with technique." Billy continued as he held down the chicken with his leg and slowly split its neck open by dragging the blade.
"And then slowly let the blood and life drain out of it."
After that, Billy showed me how to butcher the chicken and use its wings and skin to clean the blood and waste.
Once he was done showing me, he brought out another chicken and helped me hold it down. He pointed me where to run the knife and the moment I ran the knife through the chicken's neck I felt a shiver go down my spine. Not because of killing the chicken itself but more like feeling something crawling my skin and entering my body, probably SEV. I hope I don't have to feel this every time or it will be a problem.
After I drained the blood and cleaned it with its wings I proceeded to butcher the chicken. I was clumsy and didn't do much of a good job but surprisingly Billy didn't scold me, instead, he encouraged me saying I did well for the first time.
Once I was done butchering the meat I then started the procedure again and again, getting after every chicken. Only when I butchered eleven chickens did I stopped. After that, Billy sent me to deliver those thirteen Chickens to the local tavern.
When I returned I waited for more customers since we only cut down chicken when a customer comes to buy which was totally understandable considering we only got another two customers for the whole day after our original order.
While returning to the orphanage I was excited to see how much SEV I collected. The only reason I haven't looked it up was because I didn't know if I could control myself from increasing my stats and it causing some reaction like pain or forcefully making my body sleep due sudden increase of my body parameters.
"You're back!" Erica shouted the moment she saw me entering the orphanage.
Nodding towards her I moved towards the kitchen area since it was already time for dinner and I was starting to feel hungry again. Despite Billy giving me a considerable amount of food and me doing not much work I'm feeling hungry. Probably due to my malnourished growing body.
I waited for some time as the kitchen filled in with other kids and not long after the old hag also entered. She didn't waste much time and started serving food.
Picking up a plate I joined the line and not long after got my dinner which was some kidney beans and rice.
Sweet!
Retreating back to the corner I started to eat my bland food without much spices. While doing so my eyes met Blaze's who nodded at me. Nodding back I continued eating.
Once I exited the kitchen and followed Blaze who already finished his food.
Reaching our previous meeting location I resumed our conversation where we left.
"Would you tell me the test conditions now?"
"Hmm…" he nodded as he started swinging his stick with a force I still can't fathom how a nine-year-old could do.
"I'm listening," I said as I sat down on a rock.
"Then listen. The recruiter will check your body perimeters according to your age to guess your potential."
"And how would they do that I don't think malnourished orphan kid's strengths would differ much from each other," I questioned confusingly which caused him to stop swinging and look at me weirdly.
"You are quite smart for someone your age… I didn't know that before." Blaze's words almost caused me to slip from the rock I was sitting on.
Blaze and I silently stared at each other and just as I was thinking he was getting suspicious. He shrugged his shoulders and started swinging again while continuing.
"Moving to your question. Those recruiters know the orphan gets the same food and living conditions so if their body parameters differ slightly from each other then it's either due to said orphan having higher Tier potential or he worked hard to improve himself. Both cases are fine by the recruiters as the former shows talent and later shows a willingness to work hard. Got that?" Blake finished explaining and questioned to which I nodded.
"Good. Now shoot the question you're having so I can peacefully train till our appointed time."
Nodding to him again I questioned.
"What is this Tier potential you mentioned and what is it for?"
"Tier is the name for the classification of potentials. It is something that tells if a person can become a cultivator or not. I don't know how high the Tier ranking goes, but the lowest is Tier-0 which can't become a cultivator. Next is Tier-1. They can reach the peak of Tier-1 cultivation and are the most populated group of cultivator. Most soldiers are in this Tier. After that comes Tier-2 potential— They are highly sought after by our country as they could reach the peak of Tier-2 cultivation. Most of this Tier are in highly reputed jobs, some with great achievements becoming nobles even. And finally the last one I know— Tier 3. They are the most sought-after due to, as you guessed, being able to reach the peak of Tier 3. These groups are the backbone of our country." Blaze explained which was confusing as his words weren't well articulated and didn't make sense in some places. Well, it's my bad for expecting that much from a nine-year-old kid no matter how smart.
But regardless his explanation helped me a lot. A rough idea formed in my mind about the power system of this world. Cultivation and Talent/potential are described with a Tier system. The higher the Tier is the more powerful and talented a person is in cultivation.
If I analyse Blaze's words further and focus on his lack of awareness of the higher Tier I can predict the average power of this country which is Tier-2 to Tier-4 with Tier-2 doing most jobs and Tier-4 being the peak powerhouses of this country.
