Chapter 4 - We met again

Love from a Distance: A Tale of Unexpected Connections"

💞Chapter 4💞

💞Ryan POV💞

I attended a general class and after it was over, I immediately headed to the library. I was there to review some topics that were taught that day before going to the program. As I looked for "Everything English by Davis Hahn" in the English book section, I noticed a girl struggling to reach a textbook on a higher shelf.

Her hands almost reached the textbook when she pulled it slightly and it almost fell, so I had to come closer and hold the textbook. We turned to look at each other and found ourselves staring at each other. I could feel her breath on my mask and my heart started beating fast. This wasn't me, I couldn't love, so why was this happening now? I quickly looked away from her, gave her the textbook, and left.

Liela POV

Hey...he's gone. I didn't even get to say thank you," I said with a sigh. I went to meet Tania, who was reading, and as she saw me, she gave me a stern look.

"What took you so long to get just one textbook?" she asked, about to laugh.

"I...hmm...calm down Tania. I got distracted by the books I saw, so I decided to check them all," I explained.

"I see," she said, standing up and sniffing me.

"You smell different. Hmm, that perfume...who were you with?" she asked.

"No one," I quickly denied, before sitting down to start studying.

"I didn't get to ask him his name. Wait, he looks familiar...his eyes...he's that mixed guy. I hope I see him again," I said, smiling as I turned to the next page.

Ryan POV

I was seated across from them but far away, with a glass wall dividing us. I watched her from a distance and told myself I needed to stop this before going back to studying. I read the notes I took in class and left for the program when I was done.

*The program*

"Welcome to day 2 of the orientation program. I'm happy you all are here. Without wasting any time, let's get started," Mr. Arden said.

For two hours straight, different speakers gave their speeches. The last speaker for the day was the sports manager, Mr. Cyrus Naff.

Good afternoon, students. Today, I will be talking about the sports offered here. If you're interested, you can fill out the form that will be distributed to you later this week. This university specializes in basketball, volleyball, skating, and tennis sports. The benefits of engaging in these sports include international recognition, not just within the school...

I hope you all make use of this golden opportunity awaiting you. I have come to the end of my speech. Thank you all for listening," he said before we applauded and he returned to his seat.

Liela POV

The three-day orientation program was over, and I never saw him. I really wanted to thank him, but I would keep trying. I'm sure I will see him one fateful day. As I laid down on the couch, I assured myself of this.

"Guys," Rosie shouted as soon as she entered the room.

"What happened?" Tania, Sasha, and I asked at the same time.

"The form is out. Come and see," Rosie said, and we all went to see it. We checked the details.

"Are you trying out?" Tania asked.

"No, this is not for me. I'm better off doing nothing than trying out for these sports," I said, going back to the couch. I had a lot to think about, so it was time to work things out.

"You must be kidding me. Don't tell me you can't play any of these sports," Rosie asked.

"I can't, and I don't wish to try out because I have only one goal here, which is to study," I said, ticking off the goals I had accomplished that day and smiling.

"Well, you're so boring, Liela. Loosen up a bit, okay," Sasha said.

I could only hum in response. I really wished to try out, but I couldn't. Pushing those thoughts away, I went to my study table to put down my notepad and pen.
