Chapter 19 - Dark Knights (1)

Thanks for the review, DarkSlayer. He is a bonus chapter for you.

The enemies were armed with shields that could cover half of their bodies and one-handed swords. A pair of red dots were glowing through their helmets when they dashed toward Aaron.

Aaron counted forty enemies coming in groups of ten from all directions. He waited until they were ten meters away before firing Poisonous Spheres at their faces that passed through their visors. However, after the fourth one, Aaron furrowed his eyebrows since no one of them died.

The woman on the throne suddenly moved a bit more interested; she stopped resting her head on her hand and then fixed her position on the throne. She thought that the invader came from the enemy country, but she knew that they couldn't use that kind of magic.

The dark knights got close enough to surround Aaron with ten of them and tried to stab him all at once. However, he jumped at the last moment and then grabbed the helmets of two of them that he hit, and then furrowed his eyebrows… their faces were covered with Poison, but… their eyes were dead.

"A zombie…" Aaron muttered.

Before Aaron stood a decomposed zombie, its body ravaged by time and decay. Its skin, pale and mottled, clung desperately to its skeletal frame, revealing exposed bones and rotting tissue. The stench of putrefaction permeated the air, assaulting his senses with its nauseating smell.

Once full of life, the zombie's eyes were now vacant and clouded over, resembling dull, milky orbs set in sunken sockets. The remains of its clothing hung in tatters, barely clinging to its decaying form. At the same time, strands of greasy, matted hair dangled limply from its scalp.

Aaron was caught off guard… he could summon skeletons. Still, he didn't expect to find zombies there… it didn't seem like the type of creature that would appear in such a world of low-level magic. Regardless, now it became obvious why the Poison didn't work.

The closest zombies tried to slash their swords at Aaron, but he hit their faces with bone Spears. After he made the first two lose their heads with the same spell.

Aaron hadn't called his skeletons yet since he wanted to confirm a few things first. First of all, he confirmed that his bone Spears weren't strong enough to destroy the helmets at the current level. Second of all, his reinforcements would only arrive in a while, and it would be better to surprise the enemy all at once.

"How did you create them?" Aaron asked while he was dodging numerous sword attacks by a few centimeters.

The leader of the dark knights didn't answer, instead of that, she made some zombies emerge from the ground and then surrounded Aaron before they threw their weapons at him… now that was a problem; even if they were hit by that, the zombies would be fine; Aaron wouldn't, though.

"I guess it can't be helped…" Aaron said.

Aaron dodged a few of them and grabbed the weapons that were meant to hit his head and arms. He let the others see his body, but they were stopped by his bone armor. While they weren't causing any damage, Aaron used the swords around to cut the heads of the zombies left and right.

Aaron was going to level up a lot. Still, he furrowed his eyebrows instead of being happy… zombies of that level, stronger than the world's best soldiers, and even crazy beasts like the dark hounds…

"You guys really are a bunch of retards," Aaron muttered under his breath.

Although he said that, the enemy knew a thing or two about combat. As if she could control the zombies freely she made the ones that threw their weapons to jump over each other shoulders and then formed a round wall that surrounded Aaron with their shields. Before long, they started to fall over him in an attempt to bury him alive with their weight.

"Nice try, you get a C for your creativity," Aaron said and then summoned two bone swords to his hands.

In the next moment, Aaron threw the zombies in all directions with a flurry of blows. Even their shields didn't protect them… their stances couldn't do much to help them in the air either.

(You have recovered thirty points of mana.)

(You have leveled up.)

(You obtained ten status points and two skill points.)

(You learned a new skill: Skeleton Mastery.)

(Skeleton Mastery: Passively increases all parameters of all skeleton types by one point per level. They can regenerate one percent of their health and mana per minute per level as well.)

"Oh well… I guess I can no longer wait here," Aaron thought and then used Summon Skeleton Knight. "My build isn't for close-ranged combat, so my arms are cracking, and my fingers are broken already."

Aaron made only five skeletons emerge, but since he made them reach level fifteen and also increased Skeleton Mastery to ten, those five began to throw away the zombies in all directions.
