Aurora.
I couldn't sleep through the night with what was going on with me. I am running mad, maybe. I sat in the dining, fully dressed for work but lost in my thoughts as I stared through the big window beside the kitchen.
"Aurora…what is wrong?" Mom snapped me out of my thoughts. "I don't know… things have been weird with me since the day you brought the cops home. Haven't been myself and…"
There she goes, I know that look. "I'll be fine, it's probably just a bad feeling." She held my hand and looked into my eyes. Looking at her, all I see is my reflection and loads of hidden secrets. I sighed, there was no point pushing it out of her. When she's ready, I'll know.
She nodded as if she had agreed but I knew her better. When I got git to work, it felt like a different place than it was when I first came. The receptionist told me I could call her Caramel, no wonder she's so sweet.
The company looked more alive and agile than the last time. The cleaners were walking around in their uniforms and the mop bucket. The attendants were at the door receiving and welcoming people into the. Company. It looked more stuffy and full than yesterday and the time was only six in the morning.
I knocked on the door when I got to Mr Frostbite's office. It opened and I walked in.
"You did a good job coming early," he said. His eyes bloomed in the office room, for a moment, I couldn't take away my gaze. He scoffed and I went over to the chair that accompanied a table on the other side of the office. There was a little car on his table, I didn't get the chance to survey well enough yesterday.
Looking around, I found a lot of canvases on the wall and they were all portraits of different cars. "Did you make all of these cars?" I asked.
"Yes. That would be all the questions I would be taking today. Focus on your work and calculate the amount of cars sold and those that are for sale. You have to finish that before we go to a conference meeting and that would be in two hours. If you have any questions, mail them to me."
I nodded and wrote them all down. The chair and table were perfect, finally, I have something to hold on to as a job.
An hour later I was still on the PC covering the price of cars. They looked too fake…or too good to be true. The least cost car there was about a million dollars which made it easier to calculate.
I had only covered the total of the cars that were sold when Mr Frostbite stood up with his bag. I grabbed my bag and followed him. We got into his car and drove off to a big Hall down Santiago. I followed him like a guard like he said and did a lot of introductions on his behalf. "Who are you?" the first businessman we came across asked him as we entered. His suit was well-tailored and his wristwatch was a no-play Rolex. He's quite old with grey hair on his head.
He swirled the cup of wine in his hand as he demanded an answer. I cleared my throat seeing he was in no mood to answer. "We are from the Frostbite company and this is my boss, the owner of the company. We received an invite."
He dropped the cup on a passing server tray and became more serious. He broke his seriousness with a laugh, and when he saw we had no expression, he became serious again. "You mean the same company I have been sending invites to for years? My father had been doing the same thing and he requested that I keep sending invites. Seeing how young you are, you must be a grandson to Frostbite."
"Thank you, sir. Our company has always tried to acknowledge your invitation but things have been tight." I sounded like I had been working in the company for years and I'm glad Mr Frostbite wasn't stopping me.
"Well, what can I say? You are welcome. Please enjoy the party and…" he looked past my shoulder, "does he ever talk?" he asked.
I smiled. "He is a reserved man. He speaks like he has his words counted." the man shook my hand and left for the party.
"How was that?" I asked Mr Frostbite but he had no answer. As we walked into the heart of the party, all eyes were on him…willing people to look at me too.
"Hi, Miss. May I ask which company you work for?" another man came asking but he was way younger than the host, younger than Mr Frostbite who had taken his seat without reserving any for me.
"Frostbite Reality, sir."
He stared at me, from my hair till his eyes met mine and he blinked. "Sorry. That's incredible. I am the son of Mr Hancock there," he pointed to the man we met earlier. "I saw you talking to him so I wanted to see what pretty voice the angel had."
I hid my smile and appreciated him. "I'm Anderson, it's a pleasure to meet you."
"Aurora."
"That's chic. If you don't mind, can I have this dance?" I was just about to take his hand when Mr Frostbite took my hand and dragged me behind him. "No!" he said blankly to Anderson and made him go away. I didn't expect his first words to be negative.
I had to sit down and attend to other people who came to ask who Mr Frostbite was, it was hectic. For the rest of the show, I had to sit and watch blankly.
A strong irritation grabbed my attention away from the busy crowd to my back. It felt as though a tiny snake of a big worm was crawling inside my skin I stood up and went to the Ladies' room. I unzipped and looked through the mirror, I could see it. It was in my skin!
I panicked. I didn't know what to do. After a while, it left and my body was back to normal. Just to zip up my dress, my nails wouldn't do it. Oddly, it felt different. I looked down at my fingernails and they had grown into white claws. I looked at the mirror and my eyes were glowing blue.
"Help!!!" I screamed.
