Chapter 17 - Breakpoint

Lucas

I paced around, Aurora lying unconscious on the couch. I had to knock her out to get myself sane. "What are you going to do?" Trevor asked. I shook my head and walked to the window.

"I have no idea. I still have things to get from her…I still need to know how she got to find the Everest Book of Souls."

"You found it?" Trevor raised a brow. "I thought you said one could find it. You looked for it that year and almost went bizarre. Oh! Now I understand, this is why you came here…why didn't you tell me?"

I raised a finger. "Stop…talking. I am trying to think." I sighed and settled on the sofa beside Aurora. I took the warwarm out of her…it was normal for her Injuries to heal up but…it was meant to kill her slowly. That was why I needed to get her very close to me so I could give her all she wanted and use her to find some kinds of stuff before she died.

But things have taken a wrong turn now that she can hear thoughts. For a human who is bitten by a Wolf, and turned into one, their changes start from a change in their heartbeat and they never can hear thoughts or read minds.

I glanced at her and brushed a strand of hair from her face. "It's a hybrid, she's turning into a hybrid. The wolves I killed that day were clean…there was no hybrid."

"Then, it means the hybrid escaped before you got to the scene. How did you not notice this?" Trevor sat down beside me. "I know there are just two hybrids in the Crescent Hollow."

I shook my head. "There are no Hybrids in Crescent Hollows anymore. I made sure of that. Back then, I was pretty sure I grabbed all the living things there and killed them. There was no sign of a Hybrid."

Trevor went over to sit on the couch and raised Aurora's head on his lap. "So how do you explain this, a witch?"

"Probably. I don't know, I can't place it."

Trevor smirked. "Oh, the mighty is in doubt. Where are your powers? Did you hide them too? Are you thinking, Alpha Lucas? Don't you think something is wrong with her? She was a human when she found the book, no?"

He had a point but I let his silly speech slide. "Yes, she was human but injured. She said she was going to take her bath when the diamond glowed and drew her closer to it. I am sure the book wasn't there until she came around."

"Then something is coming, something big. What about Crescent Hollows? I know things have been going on in the Arch. The death toll hasn't gotten to us yet but it's just a matter of time."

"I should check again, see what exactly is happening."

I carried her and went down to the car then went down to Crescent Hollow. We took the back entrance, the one only Trevor and I knew of. It led to the basement then an elevator took us up into my room.

"This place is still in existence. I thought I would never have to use it again," Trevor said and smiled. When I saved him from the war back then, no one wanted him but I saw something in him…the heart of a wolf. He had a wolf in his bloodline but he probably didn't know…even till now.

I settled Aurora on my bed and looked for the book. I checked the shelf where she saw it…it was no longer there. "Looks like you are playing a game of hide and seek with this book. Isn't this what you said you used to hold Mac—"

"Don't speak of his name," I interrupted. "I have no idea what is happening but if the book knows Aurora, it is going to show itself. Trevor, go out and make sure no one comes into this room. I would make her find the book and dive into it to find out how she found it.."

He nodded and left immediately. I sat down and jolted her heart. She yawned and woke up. She looked around and sat up using a hand to cover her mouth as she yawned again. She stretched and looked at me.

"We are here again?" She said with a smile.

I tilted my head. I am sure she forgot everything…I wiped her memory, all of it.

"Why do you look so surprised?" She laid her foot on the ground and swung it around. "Oh, here's the book again."

Indeed, the book was out a little bit from the library shelf, threatening to fall off. The green diamond on the book glowed like it was connected to her. I haven't been confused for a long time but I will solve this.

"Do you know who I am?"

She nodded. "Lucas. Mr. Frostbite. Which would you prefer I call you? You know, I had a dream…something spectacular. It was a paranoia that got me awoken from a kind of spell…I guess. But I am trying to wrap my mind around it. Why did I forget who you were and why did you pretend not to know me? When did you become the company man and not the woods boy I met behind my house."

She held her head and staggered. "Fucking headache!"

She stood up and I watched her in awe as she walked to the shelf and took out the book. Without stress or restraints.

"Who are you?" I asked. I needed to.

"I have been wondering too. Things have changed since I met you and I don't recognize myself anymore. What have you done to me?"

"Do you remember being attacked?"

She sighed and waved a careless hand. "I remember a lot of things, Lucas. I also remember not remembering them which makes me think…who the hell are you?"

I closed my eyes and savoured my anger. She's becoming a hybrid and I cannot let that happen. There shall be no Hybrids while I am still alive. I looked at her one last time. I have no choice, I have to let her go and clear her off the surface of the earth. Like she never existed, like she was never alive.
