Lucas.
Last night, I watched and studied Aurora's every step. It's a good thing the barrier was strong. She can't remember anything, that's the only way I can keep her safe and alive. But something weird happened last night.
When she left me, she came across her ex-boyfriend and she didn't look good. I suppose that is something every human goes through…emotions. The way she looked at him and the way her heartbeat rushed…got me bothered and I don't know why.
She smiled and left alone that night. I made sure she got home safely before I went back to Crescent Hollow.
I crossed my arms and stared at the map I drew with the feather pen. It was the map crossing down from Crescent Hollow to Aspen Ridge then down to Harmony Heaven. It's the whole district of the North Post Werewolf kingdom. A total of eight Packs and this thing…this horrible untraceable killer seemed to be working in a cool pattern. The first death was recorded in Aspen Ridge. The Pack had been Ebonwood Territory. Their neighboring pack, Blue Moon pack was also affected.
I drew a stroke on the map joining the two packs together. It doesn't make any sense. There is a pack between Ebonwood Territory that has not been affected. Serene Pack. I dropped the pen and wondered if I was missing any vital information. Serene pack should be next. At the same time, I can't sit and watch. It waiting feels kike a trap.
I sighed as I looked at the bed and remembered Aurora. The human was able to draw out the Everest Book of Souls, a book I haven't been able to find in centuries. There is something about the human that just seems to draw her to me. Is it her eyes? Or her physique?
I sighed and sent a major to go to Ebonwood. We might not be on good terms but I needed to know what was going on there. While the major was gone, I took the initiative to find out what Aurora was doing and also to check out my company. I haven't been there in a century.
Using my foresight, I tracked her down to a mini restaurant. She was waiting there to submit a permit. All she was thinking about was how to get a job. I went into the restaurant and sat beside her, pretending to be doing the same thing she was doing.
It took her a while but she looked at me before it clicked on her head. "You again! Are you stalking me?" Her accent felt more British than it used to be.
I dug into my pockets and handed her my business card. "I wish I had that time. I was going to give this to you the other day but I guess you had other thoughts about me. It's my business card. Contact me when you think you deserve better than working in a restaurant."
I stepped out before she could say a thing. She would give me a call, I am sure about it. I need to know how she found the book and what string she has attached to me. I sighed and went back to Crescent Hollow. Freya had gone on whatever business she had to attend to.
"What are you thinking about?" Trevor said behind me. He poured himself a cup of liquor. He stored it around the cup and sniffed it before taking a sip. Trevor was a human I picked up from war back when the world was in black and white. Since I turned him into a wolf, he happened to have a longer lifespan than any other wolf in the pack. He's my most trusted wolf and he hasn't been around for a long time. The last time I heard from him, he was down in Canada with some human business. He is quite successful in the human world, sometimes I wonder if he remembers he's no longer human.
"Showing up like this isn't going to get me thrilled. I thought you would never come back. Why are you here?"
He laughed and dropped the cup. "I was expecting a warm welcome, Lucky. Where is Freya?"
I ignored him. "Go to the families and tell them no one should go out to hunt till the next full moon. I don't want any dead bodies in my pack."
He sat down after another sip. "What do you mean by dead bodies?"
"There have been reports that bodies have been found in Aspen Ridge and they are wolves."
He nodded and sipped his drink. "I'm glad I am not late. I'll get going."
I rose and checked the Book of Souls. About a million souls have been locked in this book…any little mistake and my pack would be gone.
My phone buzzed, it was Aurora, I could tell. "I see you have changed your mind," I asked as I picked up the call.
" I'm sorry about the other day. I-I tried to look for you but you were gone. So…"
I waited, wanting her to say it with her mouth. "You said something about having a company. Can we meet up and talk about the few words you dropped at the restaurant?"
I smiled. "Tomorrow, follow the address on the card I gave you. 5 pm, don't be late."
When she hung up, I stared at the Book of Souls, it wouldn't even open or pay attention to me. When this book was created by Elizabeth, the head of the witches, she made sure I could control it with my mind. I stared at the book again, focusing all my attention on it but it didn't move an inch. I sighed, slowly and clicked my fingers on the table. The earlier the better. I need to know if she can do more than find the book in my room.
Trevor came back later in the night telling me all families had been informed and restricted. "Good, now I can search the forest. You would go with me to the company tomorrow. I have things to sort." He stood in front of me.
"You haven't been there in centuries…what is so important?"
"You'll know tomorrow."
