Ambushed.
Aurora
"Aurora!" Mom screamed from the kitchen. I left my mirror and ran down to the kitchen with a towel wrapped around my neck. The last thing I want for my mom is to see her panic. "What Mom?"
"Get the door."
"What? You called me from my room…what the fuck Mom," I said dangling my arms around in protest. She could have done that all by herself without having problems.
"Who do we have there?" I called out before opening. I gasped when I saw Mike and tried to lock the door but he stopped with his foot and winked in pain. "Ouch!"
I left the door. "What are you looking for here? From what I remember, you made things clear and…"
"I'm sorry."
I shook my head. "I am not doing this again with you, get out of my house."
"Let him in, Aurora. Let him have a slice of the cake would you?" Mom interfered and dragged him inside. I always thought Mom was too caring. Of course, she knew what he did to me and yet…
"I would be upstairs!"
"Get back here young lady," Mom ordered. I sighed heavily and sat on the sofa across from him. "What do you have to tell me? Make it quick."
"Babe…I'm sorry. I…I didn't mean to hurt you at all, trust me. I didn't know you felt so bitter and I didn't know I was hurting you." He kept down and held my foot. "I don't want anyone threatening me anymore Aurora. Please forgive me. I would do anything. I don't want to die. I would leave my girlfriend if you want. I can travel away if you don't want to see me…just…I don't want the threats."
It was more of a plea and it got me confused. "Threat? What are you talking about? And get off my feet."
She stood up, his eyes were watery. "I just came to apologize. I would do nothing to hurt you anymore. Absolutely nothing. I enjoyed my time with you, I do. I wish things were different, maybe I wouldn't have had to go through that trauma."
He took his cross bag and left, not waiting for me to catch up.
"What is the matter?" Mom asked. "I don't know." I was very confused. He didn't make any direct explanation. "Whatever happened to him, it has something to do with me."
I shrugged and went around to get ready for the day. Mike is no longer a problem. The problem I have now is how to take care of the scars on my neck and find a logical explanation.
"I'm off to Lizzy's. I need to check out something over there," I told mom and grabbed a burger from the table.
"Are you going there to read your fortune and know your future husband?" Mom laughed when she stopped talking. I tilted my head and rested my hands on my hips. With a shrug, I left and walked down to Lizzy's.
I have never been to Lizzy's before but the rumors are mostly true. It's like a pawn shop for ancient things and it is said to be owned by a psychic who has the power to read the future and the past. I needed to know if she could have an explanation of my past.
"Good morning," I said and walked in. It smelled and looked like a pawn shop. Everything I saw was tempting and beautiful. Most of them were sparkling gold…like ancient treasures. My eyes caught a snow globe. Something was odd with the snow globe. Taking a closer look, I tried to turn it on.
"Don't touch it!" Someone said behind me and I froze. I looked around and found an adult man, probably in his early 40's. "Don't touch anything in this shop if you don't want to have dreams of their past," he said.
"I want to see Elizabeth."
"I see you are straight forward but you wouldn't be able to see her today. She has her resting hours and working days. Today, you are kinda unlucky."
I looked around nervously. I needed to know what happened to me last night. "Please, this is urgent." I collided my hands together like I was praying. "Please…"
The old man seemed convinced. Just then, a bell rang from somewhere. Perhaps somewhere in the shop. It didn't sound like the natural bell you find every day, it was like little bells that are being jingled at the same time.
"Well, looks like you are lucky, she found you herself. Take the right door. Take off your shoes before going in." I nodded and did as he said.
Walking in, the room looked more like a witch's nest than a fortune teller's house. There were talismans everywhere. And pictures and sacrificial flowers. She also had a dead antelope's head hanging on her wall. You could tell it was a real antelope.
"I see the marks on your neck, I know that is why you are here," she said. I couldn't see her face, I wondered how she saw my scar, it wasn't even visible. There was a silky white cloth demarcation between us. I sat there quietly.
"Give me your hand. I just hope you are ready for what you have come here to do."
I stretched my hand and she grabbed it. Immediately she felt my hand, she dropped it like she just held a naked life wire and gasped.
"Who are you?" She asked.
"Um…"
The clothes demarcation shifted aside and I saw the old woman. The crazy part is, she is blind. Her skin is wrinkled from top to bottom and she is really fit to be a witch. I have heard of witches, I didn't know I could see one who fits the description.
She grabbed my hand and my heart jumped out of my chest. "What have you done? Why have you joined hands with a very dark force? A terrible fate awaits you. Too sad, you cannot avoid it. Cruel…so cruel. Tell me what you saw last night."
"There was a man in my room last night. He tried to have me but something distracted him and he disappeared."
She smiled. "Have you seen this man before?"
"Yes. At least think so."
"Was he in your room or was it a dream?"
This is where I get lost. "I can't tell. It felt like a dream but when I woke up, everything happened in reality."
"This man…his name is Lucas?" she asked.
I raised a brow. "How did you—"
"You are going to be his bride. Then he would kill you and you would kill him. You would become the new bride of a powerful dark force that is yet to resurface. Your life is scripted, all you need to do is play your role. Child, you have to be strong."
She went back over the demarcation and started incantations. The old man knocked on the door. "She is done with you."
"No, I haven't even said anything. She hasn't explained anything to me!"
"There is nothing I can do. She is already asleep."
I sighed and left the shop with a heavy load in my chest. She kept saying dark forces, nothing related to Lucas and nothing made sense. Whatever she meant, I was going to find out, starting with the forest where I met him.
