Chapter 15 - That Swordswoman

"Hey, are you alright?" The adventurer then said right after the demon was killed and even helped me stand up.

"Yeah, I'm fine," I said while replying to the adventurer.

I was surprised to learn that the adventurer was a girl because I thought it was a man under the helm. And even more surprised that she was a swordswoman.

But none of that matters right now as I was able to survive this fight. And thanks to that swordswoman, I won't be the one dying in this place.

"Hahaha, it looks like I managed to save you this time around," She said while laughing and then started picking up her sword that she used to kill the demon.

"Thank you," I said while watching the swordswoman picking up her sword and doing a cool pose while showing it off.

"It's nothing really, but you better leave this place right now. As you look rather weak after all," The swordswoman said.

Well, she's right, that I shouldn't be lingering in this place anymore. I should head back to the settlement and buy myself some healing potions or food at least.

"I will as soon as I find the gold pouch," I said while searching around for the gold pouch.

But the swordswomen didn't like what I said. She even glared at me right after that.

"Hey, is that money more important than your life? Just leave this place as soon as possible," The swordswoman said with a pissed tone.

"You're right, but I can't just leave the gold pouch here... Like I am on a quest and that gold is supposed to be my reward for completing it," I said while looking around.

The swordswomen didn't reply to me and she just sighed instead. And while I was searching for the gold pouch, she looked like she had already found it.

"Here," She said while handing me the gold pouch which I wasn't expecting at all.

"You found it," I said while grabbing the gold pouch and even opening it to see if there were any coins left.

And luckily it does contain coins and it was exactly 20 gold coins left and nothing else.

"Yeah, but you know you should probably start getting out of this place," The swordswoman said right after that.

"Of course," I said while closing the pouch and storing it in my pocket.

With that, I headed back to the settlement right away. It would be a problem if I ended up encountering another monster in this state.

The swordswoman doesn't follow me instead, she heads toward the dead demon corpse and proceeds to pick up something. I don't know what it was but it isn't my concern after all.

So I left the scene right away and returned to the settlement.

*Sigh*

"What a close call," I said while walking back to the settlement.

I didn't expect the demon to be that strong or even to be encountering a demon at all.

To think an F-rank quest, the quest of slaying some rats, would lead me to my near-death experience.

But luckily the demon didn't get the chance to finish me off. And I am so glad that the swordswoman saved my life as well.

"I wouldn't forget about the swordswoman as I owe my life to her after all," I said while heading back to the settlement.

Instead of feeling grateful or sad about what had just happened, I am more worried about the future. As I realize something after doing that quest, life is cheap and one small mistake can end it all.

Moreover, I'm sure there are a lot of other monsters that are stronger than the demon and I won't be able to survive if I keep relying on luck to save me.

Making me realize that I need to gain more skills and make my helm buff more stronger. If not, one day I will get killed and I won't have anyone to blame other than myself.

With that in mind, I decided that from now on. I would kill every monster with a headbutt to add 2 damage points per kill on any monster.

Meaning that if I keep doing that, I'm sure I could up my damage output by a lot. And even if I encounter a stronger monster in the future, it would take only a few hits to kill and I might even one-shot the monster.

However, there is still one thing that is bugging me as well. And that's the fact that I didn't get any EXP from fighting the demon. I could only conclude that I could only receive EXP if I was the one who dealt the final blow.

With that in mind, I arrived at the settlement a few minutes later.

I head straight into the alchemy store as soon as I arrive at the settlement.

"Welcome," The lady at the counter said to me as soon as I entered the store.

"I need some healing potions," I said while giving her the 5 gold coins and even got an additional potion for free.

Without wasting any more time, I drank one of the potions immediately and felt a sudden burst of energy right away.

"It's pretty good," I said while placing the potion back in my pocket.

I then start heading back to the adventurer guild and submit my report about the quest that I did earlier. And after that, I'm going to report my encounter with the demon to the guild as well.

I soon arrived at the guild a few minutes later and headed right toward the receptionist counter.

"Oh hey adventurer, is something the matter?" The receptionist then said right after spotting me coming toward her.

"Yea, I'm here to submit my quest completion," I said as I gave the quest paper to the receptionist.

"Ok, wait a minute," The receptionist then said as she checked my quest paper right away.

"Um? There isn't any sign that telling me you have completed the quest. Did you forget to ask the one who requested the quest to sign your paper?" The receptionist said while looking at me with a confused expression.

The receptionist might thought that I had forgotten to do that but there is a reason why there isn't any sign of the quest completion on my paper. That's because the one who requested the quest was already dead when

I bet she would freak out if she heard what had happened or she not might believe me.
