Chapter 19 - Direct Request

"As I don't think I am gifted though, guild master." I then simply reply to him right away.

"I do not know whether you are being humble or not, but I'm quite certain you are at least not supposed to be F-rank though, Edvin," He replied to me swiftly.

He must be joking with me here or something like that, right?

"Guild master, are you kidding with me or something?" I then told him back instantly.

"All of the people of this settlement know you, the only soldier to survive the dungeon incident as all of the rest of them died," The guild master replied earnestly.

He didn't seem to be lying nor joking with me. Plus the information about me being the only soldier to survive was something people heard of since the hero's party did tell it around. So I shouldn't be surprised that everyone else already knows that fact by now.

"I guess, everyone already knew," I replied to him right away.

The guild master nods his head once, agreeing with my statement, "Yes. It is just surprising how you are becoming an adventurer someone who can survive and get out of the dungeon in just a day. The kingdom would never be dismissing you as their soldier."

"You could say that, but as someone who gets dismissed. It wouldn't hurt for me to try being an adventurer right," I then replied to him right away.

"True," He nods his head twice, agreeing with my statement, "I won't pry on what happened but we all knew you are befitting of at least B-rank at best, if not A-rank perhaps Edvin based on how well you survive the dungeon and the demon you encounter." He then said to me right away.

This is absurd, to say the least though. No way am I befitting of being A-rank, is he joking with me? I am sure he is right.

"With all due respect guild master, but I don't think I am that good... I'm just lucky, nothing more really." I then told him the truth right away.

"Then we going to test that luck of yours," the guild master told me with a serious tone.

"Huh?" I replied with a question, I wasn't sure what he meant by that after all.

"I would like you to enter a party with Irina and take on a quest," he told me immediately.

"Eh, but why? I do not understand," I then told him that as well.

I'm quite surprised how he wants me to enter a party with Irina myself. Was this a test to promote me to an A-rank or something? Or is it to see how well I am?

"You see, Irina had requested a partner in a quest to subjugate a few beast-type monsters as well. And I am shocked that Irina would ask for a partner, specifically you." the guild master then tells me all about this with an earnest face.

"But guild master, are you sure you want me as the partner that Irina has asked for? Isn't it going to be dangerous? I am not an experienced adventurer like her, guild master." I told him right away that it might be dangerous as well.

If this is something to test my rank, then I don't mind but being an adventurer means taking risks after all.

"Only when it comes to being an adventurer but being a former soldier gives you an advantage as well, Edvin," The guild master then tells me straight away.

"Maybe. But I don't think that makes any difference." I told the guild master right away.

"That's where you're wrong Edvin it does give you an advantage over the other low-rank adventurers," the guild master then tells me again with a serious tone in his voice.

I can't say no to the guild master as it seems like he's forcing me to take on this quest. Plus, I do want to pay Irina back somehow. For saving me after all.

"May I know the reason, guild master," I then asked the guild master right away.

"Yeah, Irina did specify a few reasons why she would like you as a partner, Edvin." The guild master then proceeds to tell me why Irina would even like me as a partner as well.

"I would love to know then guild master," I said to him politely as well.

"First she wanted you to help her gather information on some stuff," he then tells me the first reason Irina would want me as a partner.

"Information?" I replied with a question on the information part.

I have no clue why Irina would like me to help gather information for her. Since I'm not someone who can even gather information in the first place.

"Yes. She wanted you to help her gather the information on a group of people," he then continued to tell me more about the second reason she wanted me as a partner.

Group of people? A bandit gang perhaps? That would be my first guess since bandits tend to hide and gathering information is quite difficult after all.

"What group of people?" I then told him my thoughts right away.

"Well, there was a bandit gang near the border of the Aleceria kingdom itself. They've been stealing from both the Aleceria Kingdom and the Harland Kingdom for years. And Irina said that she wanted you to help her gather information on this group of people."

Oh, so it was indeed a bandit gang. How many of them are there and where are they located? These are just a few questions that might be quite good for me to know though.

"I guess that makes sense. Bandits would be quite difficult to get information on but still, any other adventurer could do that." I then said to the guild master right away.

"True but we have heard that the bandits have some connection with the nobles of the kingdom," The guild master then replied right away.

I can't be shocked at how true it is. Nobles would do anything to increase their wealth. And when you are a noble, power and wealth is something they want more and more.

So bandit gangs would be one of the ways as well to get them what they want.

"Yeah, nobles are quite shady people," I then told the guild master right away.

"Those were the reasons Irina has asked for you as a partner, Edvin. Because you are gathering information not from the bandit's group but from the nobles instead. You are the only adventurer that has the manner and etiquette to infiltrate the nobles." the guild master then said to me right away.
