Chapter 1 - Chapter 1 Y S Falls, St Elizabeth

Liah groans and puts the pillow over her head to block out her brother's insistent hollering of her name. "Liah, blast it Liah, wake the hell up." He demands shaking her. "Alright, alright, god damn it, Anthony, it's five in the morning. What in the world could be so damn important?" She asks glaring at him through sleepy eyes.

"Razor wants to see you, like now." He said in a cold tone. "Razor? Me? Now? Why?" Liah asks her eyes wide with panic. "I'm not sure, I wasn't at the base earlier but when I came in he ordered me to get you and that it's urgent." He said grabbing her arm and dragging her off the bed. "Get dressed we don't want to keep him waiting."

"Why would Razor want to see her at five in the morning? Oh yeah, one of his goons must have been shot again. She remembered him sending for her on two different occasions when one of his goons got shot because as he had said, she was the best nurse in the district and she took an oath to save lives. Great, just great, oh she wishes that wasn't the case right now.

She was a God-fearing woman and she knew she should love everyone but she really didn't like that man. "Let's go Liah." Her brother snaps. "Hold your horses, I'm coming." She sighs heavily as she puts her shoes on. "What's going on Liah?" Her younger sister Zoë asks sleepily.

"It's just Tony been an ass Zoe, go back to bed." She said and sighed in relief as her sister settled back down and went back to sleep. "Aren't you tired of jumping to Razor's every whim?" She grumbles as she gets in her brother's car.

"Put a sock in it Liah, nobody including you would have been able to walk on the streets in peace if it wasn't for Razor and us. We run this town and we keep all of you ungrateful people safe. You all can sleep with your door open at night because of us. You all live because he allows it" He said in a stern tone.

"Razor might be Lord of your life but he isn't Lord of mine. Only the Almighty God decides if I live or die." She said in a stubborn tone. "As much as I love you sis, you need to stop with this bullshit. That damn church is still standing because Razor allows it to, now we are almost there so no more from that smart mouth of yours because even though I'm Razor's right-hand man, I'll not be able to save you if you piss him off, so shut up and do as he says." Anthony said coming to a stop at the big Iron Gate to Razor's fortress. Shivers ran down her spine as she looked up at the intimidating dark building. Home to the town king-pin or don or God as he sees himself.

Just the thought of it made her snort. To her, he was the town's bully or terrorist, that was how she saw him. She really really dislikes this man and everything he stands for but so far no one has been able to neutralize him. The police who were supposed to be here to serve and protect the innocent were now working for this vile man, great, so much for protecting and serving. She snorts again as her brother leads her into the building.

"Take you two long enough!" Razor barks in a loud voice which makes them both jump and it doesn't help their nerves that Razor is wiping blood from his hands. "what's going on boss?" Anthony asks in a nervous tone.

"A lot, boys went out to fish before day this morning and caught a drifter. Dude is in pretty bad shape." Razor said in a dry I really don't care tone. "Why am I here?" Liah asks in a you make my skin crawl kind of tone. "Oooh well, isn't someone eager?" He asks in a mocking tone.

"Alright then, Tony go make yourself useful, virgin Mary you come with me." He said walking away, still wiping blood from his fingers.

He led her into the same room that he had on the two previous occasions that she was here. It was a room he had made up which resembled a hospital room, except much bigger with an additional queen-sized bed in a corner and various other furniture.

Her eyes then went back to the man on the bed. At first, she thought he was one of Razor's goons so she didn't pay him much attention but the man lying on the bed wasn't one of his goons. He had light skin, almost white but not quite. He looked like an American but his skin wasn't white, he was more tan, a rich golden tan. He must've spent a lot of time here in Jamaica.

"Extremely good-looking, isn't he?" Razor asks in a mocking tone. "But I didn't bring you in here so you could drool over him. My surgeon has already done all he can for him but he's going to need a lot of additional care and that's where you come in." He said his arms folded across his chest.

"What do you mean? She asks looking at the man on the bed." "You're a nurse, he's in need of medical attention. What don't you understand?" He asks in a cold tone. "How long will I've to look after him?" she asks still looking at the man on the bed.

"You'll stay here and take care of him until he gets up and walks the hell out of here." He snaps impatiently. "I need your help but I can't have you going back and forth as you please." He said checking the medical supplies. "I'll have to stay here until he gets better?" She asks in shock. "Did I stutter?" He asks his voice cold.

"But what about my job at the hospital? My family? My boyfriend?" she asks looking towards the door she just came through. "Sweetheart, I own that hospital and I'm sure your family and that idiot you call your boyfriend isn't going to drop dead if they don't see you for a few days. You'll return to them all when I say you return." He said from the bathroom where he was washing the blood from his hands.

Did the blood belong to this man or did Razor just kill someone? Oh God please get me out of this place. She prayed in her mind. "And if I come in here one day and you're not here, I'll hunt you down, kill your entire family, then kill you and find someone else to do the job, get that?" He asks giving her a nasty smirk as he dries his hand.

"Now, everything you need to care for him is in this room. You're not, and I repeat, are not, to leave this room or you'll be severely sorry. My men have ways of making you wish you were dead and your brother won't be able to save you. The bathroom is there, closet is behind this door. Your meals will be brought to you. You can keep your phone, and ask your brother for whatever you're going to need but be careful who else you call and what you say." He walks over to the window and opens it letting the cool morning air in.

"You can't just hijack my life to suit your purpose Razor." She said in her independent tone. His head snaps around to her and he stalks over to her and raises his hand as to slap her. She took a few steps back and braced herself for the impact but none came, so she slowly opened her eyes and looked at him.

"Thank your lucky stars I like you but take my foolish advice, don't ever, talk back to me again. Now get to work." He sneers at her and storms from the room slamming the door shut behind him and just like that, in an hour she goes from being a carefree independent 25-year-old to a prisoner in the fortress of the town's gang leader. A man so cold-blooded he could have the devil running scared.
