Chapter 4 - Chapter 4 Small (m)

It was eight am the following morning and Liah was still sitting in the same chair she had been sitting in since six pm the previous evening. The previous afternoon the same young girl had brought her lunch and then at seven the girl brought her dinner but since she had already decided that there was no way she was going to sleep she spent the rest of the night checking on the patient and sitting on the chair.

Needless to say at the present moment her eyes were burning and her muscles ached but it was a lot better than whatever Razor had planned on doing to her once she fell asleep.

The doctor came in at six am, checked on the man then left again promising to return soon. At seven she was checking the man's vitals when the young girl brought her breakfast. She tried talking to her but the girl practically ran from the room, so after she was finished with her examination she quickly ate her breakfast and went back to sitting on the chair.

At eleven she called her mother and after answering a ton of questions about what happened throughout the night and swearing to God that she was okay and very much still a virgin her mother breathed out a sigh of relief and told her to call David which she did a few minutes after ending the call with her mother.

He answers on the second ring. "About time, what took you so long? Are you alright? Did he touch you last night? Did he hurt you? David blurts out one question after another. "No, no, he didn't touch me, I'm okay." She blurts out.

"Are you sure? Don't lie to me Liah." He said in a serious tone. "I'm not." "Would you tell me if he touched you?" "That tone tells me you don't trust me, David, we talked about this before remember, you've to trust me if this relationship is going to work."

"I know, I know and I'm sorry alright, it is just that you're stuck in hell with the devil himself. Do you have any idea the things that are going through my head right now? I'm scared to death for you." "I know, I'm scared too but God will work this out, I know he will. We just need to have faith." "You're right, I'm sorry, I just really wish you weren't there." "You and me both….um I've to go." She said ending the call as Razor entered the room.

He walked over to the writing pad, took it up, and read what was on it. He then turns his head slowly and fixes her with a deadly glare. "So, no change in his condition then?" His eyes were ice cold but his voice was cool and calm.

"Apart from his fever going down, no." She replied in a stiff tone. "You look like hell, did you even sleep last night?" He asks his voice still cool and calm. "You would've loved that, wouldn't you." She grumbles under her breath.

He turned fully to face her, his eyes so cold and deadly they froze her with fear but then she remembered the verse that said (fear not for I'm with you) so after taking a deep breath she squared her shoulders and met his gaze.

"I'll be fine." She said firmly. "Have you had a shower since you got here?" he asks, his voice void of all emotions. "What does that have to do with anything? You brought me here to do a job, I'm doing that job, that's all you need to concern yourself with." She said defiantly.

She knew she should be scared but she wasn't. Her Bible told her not to fear the one that can kill only the body but the one that can kill both body and soul and this man standing before her wasn't him. She was a woman of God and if she was going to die then she would do so like the three Hebrew boys, she would not cower before this spawn of Satan.

He snorts and shakes his head as if she was an insignificant rodent. "Get in the bathroom and take a shower." He orders in a cold tone. "Excuse me, I…" Before she could continue he held up a finger cutting her off.

"You do know that's not in your best interest to argue with me, right?" His voice was calm but also cold and deadly. "You've two seconds to get your ass in that bathroom and shower or I'll take you in there myself." He sneered in a tone that told her it wouldn't be a pleasant experience for her.

So without saying another word she got up, took up one of her bags that had some of her clothes, went into the bathroom, and closed the door. For a few minutes, all she did was rest her back against the closed door and take deep breaths.

Oh, how she would love to give that man a piece of her mind. So it wasn't enough for him to have her brought here against her will now he had to order her around as well and if she disobeyed, what? He would kill her family; his number one threat.

Just who the hell did he think he was? Oh yeah, lord and kingpin of this community. People live and die per his order. Little did he know that he couldn't even take a breath if God didn't allow it, idiot.

Ten minutes later she exits the bathroom to see Razor sitting next to the man fully dressed in a quarantine suit. He glanced at her, got up, took off his suit, and without saying anything walked from the room closing the door behind him.

Okay so he had a point about the shower, it did make her feel a bit more energized but hell would freeze over before she admits that to him.

After putting on her quarantine suit she walked over to the man and began taking his vitals. His breathing was still very shallow and his limbs were all still too swollen to put on the cast. She was about to finish her examination when the doctor entered the room.

"Hey, how are you holding up?" He asked as he went into the bathroom to wash his hands. "As well as can be expected, considering." She replied looking around the room with disgust on her face.

"Fair enough and seeing as though I want to put this place behind me as much as you do, I've brought you some medical books, some history books, and some spiritual books for you to read aloud to him to keep his brain activity going, all this silence isn't doing him any good." The doctor says putting on his quarantine suit.

"His breathing is still very shallow." She says, "With the amount of water he must have taken in, it's a wonder he's breathing at all." "Wait, he took in water? How did he not drown?" She asks. "Not sure, he sure is a fighter, I'll give him that.

On the other hand, we might not know who he is but that small (M) behind his ear might mean that his name probably starts with (M) or maybe he's from the military." The doctor says as he begins his assessment of the man.

"Small (m)?" She asks walking over to the man and looking behind his ear. "Oh, I missed that." She says gently running her finger over the (m). "And seeing as though he looks more Indian than American I'm betting his name won't be easy to pronounce." The doctor says drawing some blood from the man.

"The blood I took from him earlier tested positive for a foreign substance. I think he was drugged before they beat him up, which was smart on their part, a man with his muscular frame couldn't have been easy to take down." The doctor says observing the man.

"I'll know more in a few days. Now start reading, the sooner we get this man to recover, the sooner we can get back to our lives." The doctor said leaving the room.

A few minutes later she took another look at the small (m), she then checked his other ear but found nothing. She thought of checking other places on his body for other tattoos but most of his body was bandaged and swollen so she decided to wait until most of his swelling went down

She then took up one of the spiritual books and sat next to the bed. "Okay, so before I begin reading, I need to give you a name which starts with (m). Let's see Mike…or Mitch...." "No, Michael," Razor said from behind her. "I'll call him Michael." He said checking the books on the table.

"Carry on." He said leaving the room again. "The man is like a ghost." She thought narrowing her eyes at the closed door. She then begins reading aloud.

Throughout the day she took breaks from reading aloud to check his vitals, use the bathroom, and have her meals. At nine pm Razor came in for a report. She hadn't seen him since he decided to name the man Michael earlier.

After he left, she went back to reading to the man. The thing that was plaguing her mind was that if a person didn't know Razor if they met him out of his element, then that person would be under the impression that he's a good person.

Why? You would ask. It was because Razor wasn't a bad-looking man, a lot of girls in the community found him handsome. He was about 6ft-2 inches, with cool dark skin, low cut hair, a straight nose, light brown eyes that held no emotions at all, and a lean muscular frame, and from what she had heard he was in his late thirties, almost forty.

So yeah, he was easy on the eyes but underneath the man was a cold-blooded murderer, serial rapist, a thief, and every vile thing she could ever think of. So what was his reason for helping this man? Only time will tell. All she could concentrate on now was getting this man to wake up so his healing could begin, so she could go home to her family.

Again that night she didn't sleep at all and then it was morning again but this time she took an early morning shower before he came in. As before the doctor came in at six am, examined the man, and left.

Razor came in at noon for a report, after she was finished talking to him, she went back to sitting on the chair. He was about to leave when his eyes went to the bed which she had not slept in since she came there. He then fixes her with a cold glare and a wicked smirk, turns slowly, and walks from the room.

At one the girl again brought her lunch and she ate it, then went back to sit on the chair next to the man. The last thing she remembers was opening the book.
