Chapter 1 - The Ark Of Disturbance

A tale of dragons… A promise that was broken long ago. A mother who has no child. A child who has no mother.

A fluctuation beneath the silent forest of the Campania… Old versus new. Mage versus Human. Disturbance rings throughout the lands as Z placed his arms on the table.

"This isn't good… I've got way too many things on my hands, and I am stuck, a few hundred meters below sea level. I can only have faith in my members above me," murmured Z as he looked at what was causing the disturbance.

"I never thought I'd see that oversized flaming thing again…"

Meanwhile, in the Old Chapel where the Arks' headquarters rested.

"What's this memoir thingy?" asked Gillian as he seemingly appeared out of nowhere.

"It's an old legend about the last fire dragon who sealed himself away to keep the last power alive. The Element of Dragon... Or so I've heard."

"Maybe Old Man Pond would've had a better idea since it was his problem back in the day," explained Baldwin as he arched his back backwards.

The day started slow for the Old Chapel as Z was away for a mission, and Raiyen was busy maintaining the integrity of the Orphanage. This left the rest of the founders to lounge away in the main dining room of the Old Chapel.

While doing so, Gillian received a conflict alert and that the Dragon's keep was being disturbed. Normally, the Headmaster didn't bother but the Angry Man was concerned, and it prompted a discussion on the lunch table.

Mavislin flew in through the window after Baldwin finished his sentence.

"I wasn't aware that this planet has dragons... And since when did an Element of Dragon become a thing?" questioned Mavislin as she folded her wings in.

"The Element of Dragon is quite a complicated one. It's more of an Original Spell of the Ancient Dragons but the 'Fire' they use vastly differs from the normal Fire Element. First, to replenish it, one must eat flames."

"Second, Dragon's flame can't be dimished by normal means like sand or water. They must be either negated by other high-ranking Mages or with the use of Absolute Zero Ice."

"But the Dragons have all died out, that's why you don't hear about them anymore. And the only way to get that Element is by blood. Something like a Lost Element. The lot of them have been gone for a very long time."

"The dragons were nearly down to ten when Old Man Pond was sent for the mission. And that was his first in the Congregation, so... Yea..." elaborated Ysabeau, setting the table with a pot of black tea.

"So... Why are we talking about it?" asked Mavislin as she opened a sack of home baked cookies.

"Because I've received information that someone is starting conflict and has disturbed the place where the last dragon was held," replied Gillian, sliding the letter towards Mavislin.

After scanning through, the Valkyrie's eyes darkened as she saw the Campania being mentioned and it being the epicenter. And then she wondered why was the conflict letter written on paper instead of via message direct from Gillian's Familiars.

Panic struck the Valkyrie as she quickly snatched the envelope from Gillian's hand.

"Oi!" complained the Headmaster.

"Why was this information in a letter form?! Look, this was dated before I went to fight the Black Knight!" exclaimed Mavislin as she leaped out of her chair and extended her wings.

"Oh this ain't good..." replied Gillian as Baldwin summoned up his Puka and rushed out of the Old Chapel.

"I'm counting on the two of you find out more information about what happened using your Familiars. The Pillars will be handling this mission," said Mavislin as she propelled out of the place and towards the Northern tip of the Campania.

Despite having a good ten Tock headstart, Mavislin quickly overtook the Angry Man and oversaw the entire battlefield from the sky. Everything was nearly gone; only ashes and embers remained.

The Valkyrie's heart darkened as she was reminded of the night when Valokia fell. She quickly shook her head to get rid of those thoughts and dived down to see if there were any survivors.

The debris that were everywhere... The fallen houses... Even the church wasn't spared. Ashes were like cursed snow, flying everywhere, forcing Mavislin to ground herself. She had been flying a good ten tocks looking for survivors, and there wasn't a soul in sight.

There were some stray flames left, so Mavislin rushed to put them out by negating them, only to realise that the ones burning were a human couple. As the Valkyrie's reached out to touch them, they crumbled to ash.

Her heart broke as they must've been so scared during their last moments.
