Chapter 14 - Chapter 13: Privileged

At this point I was really starting to believe my mom's words more and more.

'The rich really are pricks'

"So you know everything about what's happening right now?" I looked at her quizzically.

Lydia shook her head. "Not really. We only have a little bit of knowledge but it still doesn't change the fact that most of the families have a high chance of surviving as compared to…"

A sigh left my lips. Whether the major families had the advantage or not it didn't matter much because it didn't change what I had to do from here.

"We need to find Jordan" I said hoping that he too didn't turn into one of these so called Ravid.

"Agreed. Right now we need to find as many survivors as we possibly can"

I lifted my chin in acknowledgement. What she said really did make sense. Right now, there were only two ways to survive.

The first was to have overwhelming power and destroy everything that got in our way, which we didn't have at all. It's not like we were the protagonists of an epic story or some overpowered main character of an anime or a superhero movie.

The second and most viable option was to gather everyone else and work together while slowing raising our strength. The only problem was the time this would consume as well as the methods of doing so.

I sighed again helplessly.

"We first need to know what the situation currently is" Lydia walked toward the window and stared out. From where they were standing she could see thick clouds of smoke rising up in the distance.

Meanwhile the green letters flashed in my retina once again.

"Huh" I stared out in confusion. "Hey Lydia what are these green letters floating in front of me?"

"What green letters?" she gave a quizzical glance in my direction.

[The Spirit record system has fully integrated with the host]

[You have been recognized as Earth's spirit wielder]

[You as the chosen wielder has been given the privilege of the system

Earth's potential and growth are fully tethered to the host]

As I read through the messages, I couldn't help but be lost in thought.

Earth's spirit wielder? Potential and growth fully tethered to the host? I couldn't make the sense of it.

Just then another message appeared

]

As I read through I realized that this system was actually like a game. Skills, stats and everything else. What shocked me the most were my stats. Although I knew very little about the system. I knew for a fact that my stats were far bigger than I would have expected, in fact I was actually a little bit stronger than I was before today.

The skill [Break] also seemed extremely useful. The only problem was that I didn't know how I was supposed to raise its rank. Another problem was that given the mana consumption. I could only use it for a total of 4 times.

At that moment I saw Lydia frantically running from the window. "Run!" she zoomed right past me.

Confusion clouded my features but before I could say or do anything I heard the window shatter before the sound of buzzing reached my ears. Turning around my eyes landed on a large black wasp the size of a lunch box!

You may think that just because it was the size of a lunch box then its probably not that big, but think about that tiny insect suddenly becoming the size of a lunch box or a shoe box or whatever other comparison you can think of.

This was by all rights shocking. But the shock didn't end there.

The aura it gave off was shouldering by all rights. It had large yellow eyes that exuded bloodlust in them, a pair of large translucent wings that were about a 30 cm long, they beat up and down continuously at a fast pace but the most notable feature of this insect was the large stinger it had at the end of its abdomen.

Its presence alone left me petrified. My body involuntarily trembled in fear for a moment.

The large wasp pointed its stinger in my direction before I felt a subtle shift in mana. This thing was about to attack.

Its body gave off a bright shine before it flashed forward, leaving behind a series of afterimages. Before I could react, it had already appeared before me. Stinger aiming to drill a hole into my head. Panic struck my heart but somehow I managed to avoid the pointed stinger.

My heart pounded against my chest. Pumping my blood faster around my body together with my pumping adrenaline. The large wasp zoomed past me but unlike ravid Billy, it had full control over its body.

It managed to stop before it hit the wall and spun around to face me once more.

I don't know if I had imagined it but I thought the wasp held an annoyed expression on its 'face' or eyes for that matter.

"Oh your annoyed?" I spoke out with an annoyed expression of my own. This oversized bug just came out of nowhere to attack me and it looked annoyed?

If anyone had the right to be annoyed it would certainly be me.

The wasp's bloodlust and murderous intent exploded outward clearly agitated by my words. It screeched as its stinger light up with a green ethereal light. The weakling before it had dared to insult it, how could it not be mad.

Since the beginning of the apocalypse it had been favored. It had grown to the point of becoming a 2nd star realm existence and it would continue to do so as long as it absorbed the soul essence of other living beings.

Lydia didn't know it, the other major families didn't know it but from the very beginning, when they monopolized information related to mana and magic to get the upper hand, they indeed would get the upper hand but for how long would that last before they came to the sudden realization that what they did won't matter.

Why?

It was because Earth spirit had given every living being a chance to rise up and that was through the use of soul essence absorption. Soul essence was generally acquired when one killed another living being as a reward for their kill this would result in people gaining a permanent boost in their power. That was all though, the rest would have to find out the rest on their own. The only exception to this was Huey who had the Spirit Record system.

As the wasp prepared its magic attack, it directly consumed its mana. Lydia who had made it out the room and was a short distance away.

"I'm surprised you haven't asked me why we running yet…" she had attempted to tease him but who would have known that finally turned around only to find out that she was alone.

'Where is he?' she thought worriedly. She looked back towards the door to the infirmary and she could feel the small mana fluctuations coming from there. '…don't tell me'

Without a second thought she raced back. Her legs carrying her as fast as they could. By the time she reached the door, she spotted the wasp's back facing her but she ignored this, her green eyes immediately landing on Huey's figure that was standing right in front of it. He didn't look like he was going to be moving.

"Huey dodge! It's a tier 2 magic attack!" she warned.

She expected Huey to move after hearing her urgent cry but the fool merely smirked in response!
