"Survivors?" Jordan asked out loud and one of the female students within the second group stepped forward and spoke.
"Are you survivors as well?" she asked hurriedly while she stared at Jordan's mystical looking gauntlets. "You can fight?"
"Em" Jordan just nodded
"Then you have to help the student council president! She out there facing multiple enemies on her own and I don't think she can hold out for much longer!" her voice was urgent
Jordan merely nodded before leaving the people who were following him behind with the others. The group parted for him as he moved forward and pushed the doors open. He was greeted by a dark and cloudy sky, the sun seemed to have taken cover behind incredibly thick black clouds.
He spotted a shadow dashed towards him from the corner of his eyes.
Jordan's hair stood on end but he managed to react in time, he pivoted his hip and swung his leg upwards. The sound of a whimper came from the shadow as it was blown five meters away. Its body shivered slightly as it internal organs had taken a significant amount of damage.
It was a large cat with black fur and ferocious bloodthirsty red eyes. It stood on its fours, looking at Jordan with eyes filled with murderous intent before it dashed out once more. This time Jordan was ready and the black cat was no longer as agile as it was after taking on Jordan's attack.
While it was true that cats naturally had high agility, it was also true that they had weak physiques to it was no surprise that Jordan's kick had dealt significant damage.
The cat leapt up in the air, swiping its razor sharp claws. Seeing this, Jordan hurriedly raised one of his gauntlets to take on the attack.
Clang!
The sound of metal clashing metal rang into his ears and with his other fist he punched upward, knocking the cat's jaw that shattered immediately under the force of his attack. The cat's body was lifted up into the air and Jordan jumped right after it. he punched out for a total of five times.
The attacks landed on the cats body, shattering all its bones and sending it flying away like a comet before crashing into the walls of an adjacent building, never to rise up again.
[You have acquired the soul essence of a mutated Black Gale Cat level 4.
You have acquired +6 Agility.]
Jordan heaved a sigh.
Roar!
A short distance away from where Jordan was…
A young lady with a fairy like appearance glided over a group of about 30 ravids and mutated beasts, sweat matted her body which resulted in her uniform attire clinging tightly to her seductive hot body. Her blue eyes shone coldly as she brought her slender arm upwards. This young cold fairy was actually Veronica Goldwing, the student council president,
"Ice bullets" she muttered under her breath and with a wave of her hand. As if by magic…well it actually was magic, over a hundred magical bullets made entirely of ice formed around her beautiful figure. Her white hair waved left and right as the wind blew. Her face became a pale white due to the abrupt loss of mana but that didn't affect her indifferent eyes in any way
"Die"
As her delicate voice commanded, the hundreds of ice bullets rained down on her enemies. The ravids and beasts were bombarded by a hailstorm of bullets.
[You have acquired the soul essence of a level 3 ravid…
[You have acquired the soul essence of a level 2 mutated dog…
[You have….]
Familiar messages flashed across her retina, to be exact there were a total of 16 messages. She even managed to level up twice which helped to recover her lost mana and stamina. Her feet touched the ground as she couldn't last long in the sky.
Her eyes flashing with determination as she looked at her remaining enemies. The quicker she finished this the quicker she could safely secure a route for the survivors.
Just as Veronica was about to cast another spell with her ice a shadow descended onto her far faster than she could ever react as while her mana and magic stats were high numbering close to 70, her physical stats were poor in comparison.
She could only helplessly watch as claw descended upon her face. Bitterness filled her heart, she had the power to take on multiple enemies but she would die under the sneaky attempts of this creature. It was actually a Gale cat and unlike the one that Jordan had faced, this one was actually a level 13 creature with its agility over 40.
Just as it seemed her fate was sealed, a flash shone on the battlefield followed by the sound of metal clashing against metal. The Gale cat's claws were actually blocked by a shiny sword that was held by a young man who was actually the vice-president of the student council. Conrad White.
"You don't have to push yourself too much prez…don't forget you aren't alone" Conrad said with a slight smile.
Conrad pushed with his body causing the Gale cat to be pushed back a few meters in a beautiful arc. As its feet landed on the ground, Veronica's eyes flashed uncharacteristically and with a wave of her hand the ground below it was covered by a layer of frost.
Roar!
The Gale cat tried to stomp with its feet to unleash its unmatched agility on its inferior prey but to its dismay, it couldn't find the traction it needed as the ice made the ground slippery. The cat roared once more as its bloodthirsty eyes landed on Veronica and Conrad.
Just as the Gale cat found steady footing, a blurry figure moved past its eyes, its natural instincts screamed as it sensed the danger of death. Steady footing or not, the cat managed to move its body but a deep cut appeared on its left hindleg causing it to whimper. A few meters ahead of it stood a man in his late thirties.
He had black skin and short black hair, he was wearing brown shirt and pants that signified that he was a security guard, Mr. Ping. The daggers he held in his hands dripped with blood making it obvious at a glance that he was the one who injured the Gale Cat.
"You dodged that huh" Mr. Ping smirked. His grip on the daggers shifting as he turned around. His body became a blur as he sped towards the injured cat. "I got this kiddos you take care of the rest!"
Despite its bleeding leg the Gale cat responded in kind.
Two blurs could be seen careening towards it other. One black, the other brown
Conrad and Veronica could only watch dumbfounded as they could barely follow the movements of the two. All they could see was what could only be described as a whirlwind of blurs as they hoped from place to place across the battlefield.
Mr. Ping's dagger strikes were what could only be described as masterful. With each slash he drew blood. With each strike he became more proficient. His understanding of the weapon reached new heights. Still, even with this being the case the cat managed to give him a wound across his stomach. It was deep and it hurt a lot but he pushed forward.
With the way the world was now he knew that this cat couldn't possibly leave him alive, after all it also had the same goal at this moment and it instinctively knew that this battle would determine its growth.
They both fought with the aim to take the life of the other, they both fought with everything they had to push themselves further up the food pyramid. To grow stronger, to evolve.
While Mr. Ping and the Gale cat were intertwined in their death battle, Veronica and Conrad were also shredding their own battlefield.
Ravids met their end with each stroke of Conrad's sword. He moved among a group of five ravids unleashing his slashes before five heads flew into the air and rest of their bodies dropped. Conrad moved quickly towards the next batch of mutate dogs and ravids, slashing his sword wildly.
Veronica created ten ice pikes that were extremely sharp and with a wave of her hand. The pikes launched forward like a group of guided missiles. All heading towards a four legged rhinoceros beetle. It was black-blue in color with a shell protecting its outer body. Three pairs pincer legs protruding from either side of its body. On its face there was a black horn.
The beast directly charged into the pikes. Like glass to iron, the pikes shattered with no suspense and the beetle roared furiously at her.
Veronica's eyes widened. She was shocked, a little too shocked to even react to the charging beetle. She had spent directly a total of 30 mana points in order to create those pikes, they shouldn't have shattered so easily and given that her current mana pool was just a little over 60 this was a big hit.
Quickly she retreated with a leap while an ice wall 12 inch thick rose before her. she barely retreated 10 meters when the ice wall exploded into ice flakes. The beetle could be seen ramming through it. the tip of its horn gave off a bright red glow as it continued to bulldoze towards its target.
Veronica felt herself sweating, not because she was tired no. Because she was mentally exhausted and logically afraid. Ever since the apocalypse started, she had to fight off against a beast that resembled a crow, then she had to fight off ravids, then mutated animals and now here she was again fighting for her life and she was in danger for the nth time today.
As the beetle approached, the ground shook and the gears in Veronica's mind turned as she thought a speed that was faster than the normal person before the apocalypse.
The beetle had strong defense, the glowing horn and its ability perfectly to perfectly counter her attacks made for a bad matchup.
The 10 meter distance that she put between herself and the beetle was cut down by half. And that half was being cut down by the beetle's constant charge at a rapid pace.
Conrad's eyes contracted when he saw this. His heart ached as if it was about to lose something very important. He wanted to run to her aid but there was no way he could cover a distance of over 20 meters in time to save her. Veronica's life flashed before her when her blue eyes met the red eyes of the beast that wanted nothing more than to rip her apart.
She had lost all hope at this moment, there little to no options left for her.
Just when she was giving up, something in her snapped. Was she really just going to give up just like that? Her eyes flashed with unwillingness
She consumed 10 of her remaining mana to produce a final ice wall. Before she stomped her foot and jumped as high as she could. Without suspense, the beetle blazed through the wall with its glowing horn but to its dismay and shock, its prey was nowhere to be seen!
It turned its head side to side in confusion but then…
Swosh!
From above Veronica consumed all her remaining mana. She created a longsword made of ice that was over 1.5 meters long and without any hesitation she thrust downward, using the momentum of her fall to enhance her attack. She fell to the earth like a comet and before the beetle could react in any way, the tip of her ice sword pieced through the small gap between its head and shelled body.
Veronica felt the sword penetrate flesh. It sunk about 12 inches deep. The beetle tossed and turned in agony and Veronica was flung off its back. She tumbled and rolled across the dirt and given her weak physical constitution, she sustained internal as well as external injuries.
Veronica's body hurt everywhere, her arm felt like it would snap at any given moment as she lifted herself from the ground her body trembling weakly. She barely stood up before she coughed a mouthful of blood and organ pieces. No doubt that if this was in the past, she would have most certainly died by now.
Through her spinning vision, she could see the beetle rampaging if a frenzy. Its eyes were filled with hatred as it looked towards her. despite the ice sword being plunged 12 inches above its neck, the beast still seemed able to operate.
With burning fury and murderous intent radiating through its eyes, it charged towards the weak Veronica. Its horn pointing downward with the goal of impaling her. Conrad who had abandoned his opponents had been charging towards her but alas, it seemed that he would be too late.
The horn of the beetle came closer and closer to impaling her, death seemed to loom over her and Veronica closed her eyes expecting that the next second she opened them would be in the land of the dead
She expected to be crushed to pieces but instead she was surprised to feel a gust of wind hit her body with force even pushing her backwards. When she opened her eyes, the scene she saw left her shocked.
