Chapter 18 - Chapter 17: Elites

Wasn't the Spirit Record supposed to be a privilege for the world spirit wielder?–namely me. But then then the same system says that everyone can now access their stats? What was with that bullshit?

I didn't know who the creator of the spirit record was but I seriously wanted nothing more than to beat his ass.

'If the system was met for everyone then you shouldn't have told me that I had the privilege in the first place!'

I stood and spent about five minutes just throwing whatever curses I could at the system as well as its creator. This was truly frustrating.

After venting my frustrations, I took deep breaths.

This was actually a good thing. It would at least give everyone a fair chance at evolving at least meaning that the chances of my mom being alive were slightly higher…that is if she didn't turn into a ravid.

That thought caused my heart to ache and I even had to shake those thoughts off as soon as they came.

"Come on we have to find the others" I stated with a straight face before heading down the corridor, Ms. Camille following right behind me.

Along the way we met up with Lydia who seemed perplexed by the sudden development of the system. We moved as a group and headed down a couple of steps. We emerged on the lower floor where first year and second year classes lay.

I was honestly the worst case scenario but instead all I got was an eerily silent corridor. Too silent

I raised my guard at this, there was no way the world would be this silent. Taking one step at a time I focused my senses, honing in my surroundings but to my surprise I felt nothing.

I approached the closest door which was the door to class 1A. Opening it I took a look inside and shock immediately filled my face.

The entire classroom was littered with blood and corpses of what I could only assume were ravids.

"My god…" I heard Ms. Camille say with her mouth covered a disgusted look on her face as she tried to fight the wretched smell of death. I checked on Lydia and she too seemed shocked.

'I guess they didn't teach them to cope with death huh' I thought but then again no one can ever truly cope with death especially one that looked like this. I shook my head before leading the two away from the class the scene just reminded me of the urgency on the situation as I picked up the pace down the corridor.

If my memory served me right then Jordan's class should have been in 2B.

My breathed hitched at the sight of the class. There were ravid corpses in this one as well. The only saving grace was that there weren't a lot of dead bodies and thankfully, Jordan didn't appear to be among them which meant that he was most likely alive. On closer inspection, the ravid bodies seemed to have slash marks on their bodies which could suggest that they had been slain with a sharp object.

"Well lets move on I guess" I looked out the window in the distance I could see the gymnasium, it was in near-perfect condition and I could also see some dead creatures within a 50 meter radius with it as the center. A smile crept on my lips.

What were the odds?

***

Within the gymnasium, a group of 50 people were sitting on the floor, teachers and students alike. The atmosphere was gloomy and dark as everyone was looking around with caution as although they were currently safe within the gym, you could never truly say that because of the things that they had seen thus far. From mutated dogs, to oversized bees and even vicious tiger-sized cats. If it wasn't for the four fighters that had protected and led them from the classroom to this safe point, they would have surely been dead by now.

Currently in a corner further away from the survivors a brutish looking boy had a pair of black gauntlets around his arms, his muscular build was by no chance anything to scoff at despite his age only being that of 15 years and his fighting power was also not one to be taken lightly. He had black curly hair and his face was slightly egg shaped.

In front of him stood four other people, one was an older 18 year old with white skin and blonde hair. He wore a white blood stained shirt and blue trousers but in his had he held a silver shining sword that looked sharp enough to cut through concrete walls. His name was Conrad White and he was the student council vice-president.

The other person standing next to him was an 18 year old girl with a hot body. The school uniform even failed to hold back her abundant chest, she was tall for a female, her long white hair and pale blue eyes gave her the appearance of a fairy that would cause nations to go to war with one another. Her beauty truly was otherworldly but the coldness in her eyes always seemed to deter all men who approached her. She was Veronica Goldwing.

Standing to her right was a man who looked to be in his late thirties. He had a pair of small daggers strapped to his waistband. He had black short hair and a mole on his nose. He was commonly known as Mr. Ping and he was in charge of gym class.

"What do you mean we can't go back! Two of my best friends are back there" the muscular black haired boy argued. This was none other than Jordan, Huey's best friend.

"We've already been through all this Jordan. We can't risk our lives just to get two people!" Conrad White shouted back. His voice was so loud that it echoed throughout the gymnasium.

Jordan's face turned ugly at this point and he couldn't help but think of these people as hypocrites. When they had been escaping a while ago these people had actually made time to look for their friends but the moment he suggested that they check out the infirmary for his, they flipped on him like a switch telling him that it was too risky?

If that wasn't bullshit then was? He clenched his fist, his entire demeanor slowly changing. If he had to fight them in order to convince them to take action then he would gladly do so. His black gauntlets crackled with small streaks of lightning. These gauntlets were called Thunder gauntlets by the Spirit Record. It was a Rare grade treasure that he got after he had managed to kill a mutate dog. It gave him +15 strength when he equipped it but that wasn't its most outstanding feature.

It could actually convert the energy from the impact of his blows and store it in the form of lightning energy and when it was full it could pack a devastating punch.

Conrad, sensing the change held his shiny sword tightly. Just as they were about to attack each other…

"Both of you knock it off!" Veronica's voice was cold and the temperatures seemed to plummet. Both of the hot bloodied youths froze before looking at the beauty with complex expressions.

"The fact that the both of you are fighting is meaningless. Don't you see that we have a responsibility to these people here? If you guys fight and get hurt in the process who is going to keep these people alive?" Veronica was looking at Conrad the entire time she said this. She then turned to look at Jordan.

"And as for your friends, we could have gone out to get them but you saw it yourself didn't you. That strange bird with the shadows" she reminded them and Jordan's face couldn't help but turn solemn as he recalled the strange but powerful creature that had almost cornered them.
