Chapter 5 - Unfair but normal

After a few minutes of waiting, Rivar returned to Zion, who was sitting on a bench in the guild and Zion glanced at him then he smiled.

"So, what did they say?" Zion asked.

"Well, one thing I can say is that the merchant seemed a bit interested in you but he agreed for you alone to be taken on the trip with a group of people and you have to be here early tomorrow, he won't tolerate anyone being late for no good reason," Rivar responded and Zion exhaled deeply.

"So, he talked as someone looking down on us in the end, huh?" Zion asked and Rivar looked at him and then sighed.

"Yeah, but that's something that we are used to, there is nothing we can do about certain people," He responded and Zion scoffed as he got up and Rivar looked at him.

"For now, that is," Zion said as he walked away and Rivar glanced at him before following him out of the guild.

"We have been together for about two years now, are you going to still try out in one of the guilds? To move forward or whatever?" Rivar asked and Zion looked up at the sky.

"Yeah, of course I am, I don't like being stuck like this, at least that way I won't be in ripped clothes and will be able to have a proper identification, I am going to take this and make it the start of moving forward, climbing that ladder, the one which people struggle the most to get up," Zion responded with a smile on his face.

About two years ago, when Zion had first come to the city of Evair, he was looking for jobs for his daily survival but things were hard and still are, since Zion literally had nothing to go back to or a name that would save him from the harsh side of life.

Unlike those with all the luxuries in the world who had to work for almost nothing yet do as they please, which was unfair but that was something that couldn't be changed, it was reality.

The world was unfair, some of the weak were looked down upon and even in some places, at the time, there was a great power struggle, between some nations as well as royal families and other clans in the realm.

The city that Zion was in at the time, was one within one of the nations that had a power struggle as well.

"Rivar, if you want to move on from this life, you will have to fight for it, no matter who gets in your way, never let them put you down, the higher you go, the better your life, well in certain ways, you won't have these daily struggles, do you want to go in the dungeon as well?" Zion asked and Rivar left staring at him then he lowered his head and swallowed.

At that moment, Rivar thought about the struggles he had to face even to get his daily money to go by and he clenched his right fist and Zion glanced at him with his eyes narrowed.

As Rivar thought about everything, he glanced at Zion, thinking about what he had known about him so far and how he does certain things then he sighed.

After all, Zion was someone who was shown the harsh side of reality at an early age, in his time within the city, he had learned a lot about how things worked but struggled when the money department was concerned, which made his life only harder.

But then he met Rivar, who shared a similar fate with him and that's how the two became friends and got stuck together, deciding to help each other out.

"I will go with you in the dungeon, I am going to put my foot forward as well," Rivar said and upon hearing his response to his question, Zion smiled a little.

"That's more like it, after all, you have to fight for what you want or you might end up with less than you currently have," Zion replied and Rivar chuckled.

"Are you sure you weren't someone's teacher before, Zion?" Rivar asked and Zion scoffed.

"No, I wasn't, I was my own though," He responded with his gaze, slightly lowered and Rivar's brows furrowed.

"I see, then that explains a few things, I should tell you, I don't think there are many like you here, well, we don't have time to waste, shall we head to the guild to take a look at the exam?" Rivar asked and Zion glanced at him.

'If only I didn't have to go through all this trouble, but in order to get up, this is the only way, I can't waste too much time either,' He thought as his brows furrowed then Rivar tapped him on his shoulder and Zion looked at him.

"Let's go before we get late," He responded then walked away and Rivar went after him.

Despite their young age of nineteen, both of them did many jobs, but no matter how many, it was not enough and those that looked down upon them, always tried taking advantage, not even wanting to pay the right amount of money, but Zion was not one to take people's nonsense and always made sure they got their right pay.

He always gives them the harshest replies, even with the most genuine smile, since he had more than one goal in his life as well and had no intention of letting anyone trample on him.

He had made up his mind, to move ahead, but Rivar was a little different from him, he was the one that preferred not to cause trouble due to the life they had but with Zion's help, he was able to move ahead.

After a few minutes of walking, both of them arrived in front of a very tall building and they had quite a few people in front of the building, most were wearing armor and some were dressed as normal adventurers, since that was one of the main guilds.
