Chapter 9 - 8. I have to go back to my life.

"Follow me," he said, walking past her. Without thinking, she followed him till they stood alone on a pretty secluded balcony. At first, she did not think anything of it, but once she realized that he was probably the one who was trying to kill her, she slowed down and waited by the exit.

Her eyes scanned the area, and she did not notice any cameras or people around. It would be a simple murder. She still knew nothing about this woman, but she also knew it was not going to be in her best interest to die, either.

"Why are you just standing there?" He asked.

"No reason," she shrugged.

Xerxes sighed heavily, his chest burning with suppressed rage. He met her gaze as he tucked his hands in his pockets. "Who is he?"

Zena's head tilted at a slight angle in confusion. "Who is who?"

"Don't play games with me, Xian. Who is the father? It would be better for your reputation if you tell me before the DNA test comes out."

'Ah... shit.' Zena cursed inwardly. 'Me and my big mouth. Why the hell did I say that? I don't know who the father is and I can definitely not tell him that.'

"Are you not going to tell me?" He asked again, and Zena looked up at him.

'I shouldn't tell him I am someone else, right?' She thought in panic. 'But the doctors all know that something is not right with this woman mentally. Surely they told him, right? Ah, damn it, I keep making mistakes. I shouldn't have told them I wasn't Xian. But who the hell is she?'

"What happens if you aren't the father?" Another stupid question, she was aware, but it's the only thing she could think of. She immediately regretted it though when she saw how is shock morphed into soft chuckles.

He was laughing?

"You know I have been pretty civil with you, Xian." He said as he slowly closed the distance between them. She was calm though, because of her decision to stay close to the exit. With each step forward, she took one in the opposite direction. "Very few men would put up with your crap for as long as I did, but I was civil."

His voice was dangerously low, and his gaze was piercing, but she could always escape, she could just turn around and run when things got to... dangerous.

A sharp gasp escaped her lips as her back met the hard wall.

'How?!'

Before she could dash out, his brawny arms slammed against the wall, right by her head. Zena stopped breathing when the other arm wrapped around her slim neck. His grip was firm enough to inform her of his strength without hurting her.

Their faces stood mere inches from each other and she could feel his breath fan her cheeks. He was too close! He is standing too close to her. Whether it was fear or attraction that caused her body to sizzle with such life, Zena would never know.

"There is only so much civility left in me, Xian. So for your sake and mine, you better hope and pray that the test comes out positive because you would beg for death by the time I am done with you."

Zena's heart hammered so hard she was convinced he would hear it. All her courage evaporated the moment he touched her, but after that threat, beneath that scorching gaze, Zena was terrified. No one had spoken to her with such festering hatred, so she was scared.

Pushing away from her, he straightened his jacket and turned away. Pausing in front of the door. "Just so you are aware," he turned to look at her, his disgust obvious. "I am taking the boys, even if the test comes out negative."

Zena blinked, the words flowing out of her mouth faster than her brain could comprehend. "Wait, what? You can't take my sons from me."

"I don't have to. You already signed them away." He said. "Are you going to claim you don't remember that now?" He added when he noticed her stupor.

'She signed them away?! Then why the hell do I harbour such powerful emotions for babies that don't belong to me?'

"I will spare you the pretence. You already signed the documents. Legally, those boys belong to me, positive test or not. So do yourself a favour and stay away from my sons. Next time would not only be a warning." He said before walking out.

Zena slid to the ground after he left, gripping tightly to her chest. Tears trickled down her pale, swallow cheeks. Sobs of helplessness and just pain racked her frame, and she just let herself break down since there was nothing else she could do. As much as she would scream and yell, it had become obvious that if he wanted to take the children away from her, then he had more than enough power to do so.

And what did she have? Memories of another world that provided no help to her. She did not even know where she was, so how? How would she survive here then?

"That's it, I cannot survive here. I have to go back to my life!" She exclaimed. "If I even have a life to go back to," she added softly. Her body could be dead, but it was better than staying here, right?

Pushing herself up, she marched with determination. Bowing her head as she walked into the elevator. Well aware of all the stares she was getting as she walked towards the exit, she kept moving. She was taken aback by how busy the street was once she got out of the hospital. Busy was good though, she wanted to go home right? All she needed now was a truck.

"Or even a bus, a bus will do."
