Chapter 20 - Exam results

It was finally time for us to receive our results, They were posted in the same room that we took our written exam in so it was no trouble finding them. It was a mess trying to find your name out of 4,000 students but since I had confidence that I would be near the top I only needed to look at the distinctly different leaderboards that were framed by a fine wood border.

It seems that I came in 234th place. An acceptable discrepancy in what I thought my rank would be and it wouldn't bring too much attention either unlike those above me in the rankings. Looking through the list I wasn't too interested in who they were but I kept the names of the top 30 in mind. The top 5 had long and elaborate names so they were probably nobles or royalty of some kind. I wondered what their strengths were and if they had true power or if they were on the same level as me.

It made no difference as long as they didn't mess with me, although due to my low rank I doubted we would even see one another. I'm sure they would be curious about those in the top 500 at the start but after our positions are secured we shouldn't interact with each other.

Luckily there was no proper assembly where the headmaster would talk for hours on end there was just a short welcome that would be done by the honour students who are at the top. How do I know this, it's public information that is available to anybody as long as you ask. As they say if you never ask you will never know.

I sat down on what was basically a collapsible chair with a little padding, it wasn't the comfiest but I wouldn't be here for long so it wouldn't be too bad.

"Welcome students, before we give you access to your accommodations we have a short speech that will be presented by the honour students of the first year. After that you will be given a letter with the address and key inside. Without any further adieu the number one student:

Princess Keira Whyte!"

"Thank you headmaster, As I stand here I hope to bring all races closer together, my only wish is for us to prosper and lead as head members of our races so that we may live in prosperity. However not all is easy in academy life as seen by the trials we have already taken and it has proved to be a treacherous path. I'm sure there will be some conflict, however I believe that we can overcome and excel at our roles as the golden generation. Thank you for listening."

What a naive child. Relations no matter how it looks are strained between each race and war was basically around the corner, I doubt the academy was set up like this without an ulterior motive. That last sentence was different from the rest, she put more emphasis on our roles, but our roles in what? They know something that i do not and I don't like the feeling I'm getting from it. Could it be the demons or is the war coming a lot sooner than I thought. Was it differing from my knowledge? I may be over exaggerating what she means but my senses tell me otherwise. How problematic.

"Ok students classes will start tomorrow so learn the routes to your classes and to your new accommodations for there will be punishments for those who are late...no exceptions."

The head master disappeared and a letter was placed in each of our laps instantaneously. It was meticulous use of space magic however it was dwarfed in comparison to what I could do as long as my mana allowed me to perform the spells. Still at the moment I would not like to go against him. I would be dead before I could even move.

Opening the letter I was met with the address of the Apartment I would live in as a member of the 250 highest graded students along with a timetable and what was similar to a key card with a specific mana signature to unlock the door. There was a mana based wristwatch inside that was decently heavy for its flimsy looks. This told people their status along with information from the academy however it was rudimentary and it was very inefficient and expensive, I would have to create a better version of it once everything was in place.

Standing up I immediately left before anyone else as I wanted to settle in and finally create my proper equipment now that I had access to the shops in the city. Walking through the unknown hallways I found a map in the wall with the basic layout of the academy. It was closer to a maze with branching paths to different sections but everything was meticulously planned with wings for different subjects and classes that it was easy to read. The exit was nearby so it didn't take very long for me to find my way out along with finding my new residence.

It was a small apartment complex with a simple yet rustic look with exposed bricks and a fashionable design. Walking to the door I saw a black slate next to the door, it must have been for the key card. Pressing it against the slate elicited a loud click from the door as it opened with a creek. I was met by a hallway with stairs and what looked to be a lift to the other floors, Each complex held 20 apartments that took up a floor each and yet they weren't noticeable over the walls showing how tall they were and how well defended this place was..

The apartment was separated between housing and an empty space for equipment related to the electives students can join. To be exact the place was split in half with one side for a bedroom, a bathroom along with a decently sized kitchen and a study while the other side had large empty spaces and a lot of open room, A simple small training room, plus a room a student could customise for their own needs.

I had what I required for the time being in my inventory until my electives were selected so I would just use the spare room for the most part. reaching into my dimensional space I pulled out all I would need to create the upgraded version of the gun along with a manufacturing table and a small alchemy set.

It was perfect. I basically had a day's worth of time before classes started so I would be able to finish a project or two. First I would start fully upgrading my gun and then the final version of my armour, I also wanted to create a replacement for this needlessly heavy watch however I doubted I could get it done in a day's worth of time, it would take at least a week to be finished but a rudimentary version would be alright for now.

Exiting the apartment I decided on going to the shopping district to pick up what I needed before working on the runes and trigger mechanism of my gun. I couldn't wait to have my trusted weapon back in my hands once again.
