Walking into the head masters office I sat in a plush leather settee while he sat opposite me. The silence was almost palpable as we just sat there staring each other down. The ring on his index finger glowed and a tea set and a few cakes appeared before they found their way to the table.
"Student Noir it is with my utmost regret that I have to inform you that your housing has been revoked due to altercations with what class you would be placed in and your belongings have been put in storage, You know this yes?"
"Indeed"
"Perfect. Sephardim Lancaster is willing to sponsor your tutelage and has provided you with a home on the outskirts of the city and security in the position of your class. You will be given a monthly allowance along with resources for your classes. Here is your new timetable along with your renewed class A uniform. "
"Thanks" Getting up to leave I made it to the door before I heard a spoon hitting off ceramic plating.
"Student Noir I didn't say you could leave just yet."
Turning around the aura around him seemed to have changed drastically to something more cold and business-like.
"How did you enter the academy?"
"What do you mean how did I enter? I entered just like everyone else. I paid for entrance to the test and was one of the 4000 students who passed."
"That is not what I mean, We have been looking into you and to say the least you are an unknown variable. We can't find any information about you that is any more than 5 months old, it's almost like you appeared from thin air. Then you conquered dungeons and slayed beasts before coming to the academy and paying a large sum of money just to enter the test. This means that you don't come from one of the 12 families nor do you come from another race.
This means one of two things you are a commoner who has stolen to enter the academy or you are a spy trying to infiltrate the academy grounds.
Place your hand on the orb Mr Noir."
A large glowing orb materialized before me. The mana around it was great as it pulsed with power.
"The orb is a truth seeking artifact, I will ask you a few questions and if you refuse to answer I will kill you immediately."
Nonchalantly placing my hand on the orb I felt the mana course through my body. Deciding to not resist it I allowed it to course towards my brain before it finally finished.
"First a test question. Who am I?"
"The head master of the academy."
A green hue filled the orb. It was mystical in a way but I knew how deadly this was for me. One wrong move and I would be dead.
"Next test. Please lie to me. Do you know who Sephardim Lancaster is?"
"No"
The orb turned a deep red at my lie.
"Perfect. We can begin."
~~
"Are you a spy for any nation?"
"No" -Green
"Do you have any bad intentions towards the academy."
"No"- Green
"Do you have any ulterior motives for coming to the academy."
"I have no ulterior motives just will to gain strength." -Green
"Are you a commoner?"
"No" -Green
"How did you afford the entrance fee without being sponsored?"
"I used the money I had stored with me" -Green
"Was that money stolen?"
"Not to my knowledge"- Green
"Whose side are you on?"
"Nobody's"- Green
"I believe that is all I need for now. Your classes will resume tomorrow morning so don't be late. Since you are not a member of the Noble society you must work harder to stay within the academy. There are many who don't take kindly to commoners being in their elite academy so do try and make yourself as small as possible for no one will be willing to aid you now you are in the academy or you could become strong enough to crush those who will try to step in you , either way as a headmaster I have to be impartial even with my commoner upbringing so do try hard. Sephardim is sponsoring you anonymously so you can't use her name or power either.
Anyways that is all you may leave."
Walking out of the office I was met by a blank hallway filled with empty space and chairs. The only sign of life being the secretary doing menial work like filing some papers. I needed to collect the keys so I needed to head to the homeroom class and then I could be on my way.
Knocking on the door it opened silently. Walking in I was met by my homeroom teacher sitting on her desk with a pipe of some sort in her mouth. Smoke lazily exited the pipe as she took silent puffs.
Chucking a key at me along with a piece of paper she seemed to treat me more like air than with hostility.
"Enjoy your stay at the academy. The head has told us of your circumstances. If you were promising in combat maybe i would have been able to put you in a better position. Sorry that I couldn't do anything for you."
A tired sigh left her mouth before she left the room. It seemed that she was being put under pressure to not interact with me. That was weird. Did they really have something against commoners? They were the foundation of everything whether it be food or common luxury products. I guess it is like what you see in novels where nobles treat commoners like shit.
My time at the academy just got worse on the first day. Exiting the academy I followed the address by using the map on the letter given to me. I was eventually led to a gaudy looking house with a garden. Compared to the rustic look of the other house this one was definitely meant for nobles to flaunt their wealth I could only hope that it was better on the inside.
