Chapter 31 - Madness

Her swings were feral as she clawed the necks of the ninjas. They were treating it more like a game than actual combat yet she never gave in to the feelings of futility. The look in her eye was powerful and radiant. It was the similar look I had when I was in the domain. The eyes were filled with the core of emotions and hers had ambition and rebellion.

Each strike she managed was countered and 4 more wounds were added to her body. Her form was nonexistent but I counted that to the leg injuries where the people focused their slices. It seems they wanted to stop her from running but why not just knock her out ?

A new voice entered the scene.

"You tried your best but his majesty is getting impatient and you know how he gets. I implore you to cease this foolishness at once"

I could see her start to crack as small tears formed in her eyes and her will to resist slowly leaving her eyes replaced by a deep fear. What did they do to you for a person's appearance to break you and not battle?

A subtle whisper entered my ears

"Please not again anything but that. please. someone.anyone...save me please."

A girl crying for help while a bunch of people surround her?- check, That's close to kidnapping right. Guess I can interfere on the terms that she was getting kidnapped for an alibi especially if I'm going to go against a king.

Jumping down from a small ledge that was in the shadows I used the momentum to deliver a heavy blow to the neck knocking one of the ninjas out and possibly killing them going from the cracking noises that I heard from them hitting the floor.

Delivering a swift blow to the next person I coated my hand in mana until it formed an invisible point before driving it into the chest just far enough away from the heat that I could claim that I didn't intentionally kill them.

Finally the group turned to me in shock. I placed the skull mask I had made to hopefully hide my face but if they wanted to know who I am they had more than one way to find out if they were under a king. Pulling out my gun I felt ecstatic. I was finally able to use it on real targets. Pulling the trigger the hum of mana accumulating in the runes was the only noise before a loud *bang* filled the area and one of the ninjas dropped dead with a decently sized hole in his skull. Whoops accidentally aimed at the wrong place.

"Whoops I didn't mean to kill him I just got too excited about it, my mistake"

Pointing at the others I instantaneously pulled the trigger allowing each target's legs to taste the power of my weapon. The cries and blood were music to my ears. I was sure that I was becoming more of a sadistic monster each day but it didn't bother me.

Finally there were three left one head honcho that was the one that came outta nowhere and two ninja wannabes. Firing the rest of the magazine at the head dude the bullets surprisingly bounced off of him. I guess there is only so much I can do with C rank magic power and control.

"Do you want to continue watching your people die or will you retreat?"

He looked me up and down sizing up my strength probably.

"Retreat"

"Smart choice plus the academy authorities are on their way here. If I ever see you in my sight again I won't bother with niceties and I'll kill you before you know it."

"You have messed with the wrong people boy." Hatred and spite flowed from his voice. "Look over your shoulder for you should have walked away"

He and his cronies leapt into the shadows trying to hide themselves as they ran up the walls of the closest building. Using shadows against a creature that rules the shadows isn't the best.

Looking at the girl caked in mud and blood she was huddled into a ball crying her eyes out. I wasn't sure what to do. I'm not good at social situations. Do I leave her? Do I try to console her? What do I say to console her?

Human interaction is difficult that's for sure.

Walking up to her I crouched down next to her. The sounds of her sobbing more prominent.

"Hey are you alright?"

No response

"Can you walk?"

No response

I wasn't sure what to do but I did know that I couldn't leave her here surely.

Picking her up the smell of mud and blood filled my nose. I almost reeled in disgust but held it down. She needed a bath and quick. I knew of a bath house nearby but how would I explain it. The least of my worries were getting dirty looks while walking in holding an unconscious girl in a bath house. Ah fuck it I'll deal with it using my charm skill.

Waking to the bath house I was met by a glare from a female clerk behind a counter. Perfect!! Walking up to her I put a pile of gold coins on the desk.

"Hello I want you to go with this girl and clean her up. She's just been through a traumatic experience and I want her to stay asleep." Pulling some baggy trousers and a shirt out of my storage I threw them at the clerk not giving her a chance to respond.

"Take me to a changing room I'll drop her off there then it's up to you."

Nodding meekly with a faint blush she led me to a staff changing room where I put her in a stall before walking away. I decided to have a wash myself since some of the mud and blood stuck to me from our walk.

~~

After a thorough wash I walked back to the lobby where I found the receptionist with a towel wrapped around her head. It seemed she took the time to clean herself too.

"Where is she?"

Walking with her I moved into the back where she lay on a settee.

Throwing another bag of coins at her I looked into her eyes using my charm skill.

"Make sure to never tell anyone about this."

Her eyes dulled as she nodded at my command.

Lifting her up I noticed that she felt light, almost too light for someone of our age. I tried not to let my thoughts wander to darker areas for the reason for her lightness (Sick bastards), I decided that I would go to that spot on the cathedral. It was better than taking her to my place when she doesn't know mw.

~~

Sitting down I put her head on my lap as I spread mana over her body. The wounds were still open to a certain degree so it was best that I heal them, not like it would take much out of me.
