Jena was taken by surprise when she saw his number pop up on her screen. She hadn't expected to hear from him at this time of the night.
Anna had already ended the call the moment Jena told her it was Lucien but she definitely didn't leave without teasing her. Jena could even still hear her voice in her head even after she hung up.
So she swallowed, trying to steady her nerves before she finally picked up the call.
"Hello?" she said, keeping her voice mild and professional.
"How's the hand now?" his voice was cool and collected as usual.
"It's fine sir. I'm pretty sure I can manage it at work tomorrow."
"Manage?" he echoed. "I dont want you managing yourself tomorrow Jena if your hand isn't completely healed then i'm gonna have to extend your break a little further."
"No!" Jena was quick to retort. He sounded almost concerned for her but Jena couldn't falter. She didn't want to let another day pass by with her sitting around and doing absolutely nothing but endure her sister's harsh behaviour towards her. She kept growing more and more worse by the day.
Though she couldn't see his face, she longed to know what his expression was. His voice was giving away nothing as usual, sounding as neutral and uninterested as ever but his words... His words and his voice were like two contrasting pairs.
"It was probably a slip of my tongue sir. My hand is perfectly healed and i'm confident that I will be able to fulfill all my duties as your secretary without any difficulty tomorrow.
"So what if i see something on the contrary tomorrow?" his left brow arched up. "hmm rainbow?"
"Then do to me whatever you please" Jena said and her hand quickly flew to her mouth as soon as the words escaped. She hadn't planned on voicing it out but now they were out in the open and there was no way she could take it back.
Definitely, Lucien heard her. Her heart raced as she waited for his response. What would he think? What would he do? What would he say?
Realising that he hadn't said a word, she started wondering what dish was probably cooking in his head. She knew it wouldn't be good.
"Whatever I want, huh?" Lucien asked her. His tone sounding pitiful but she could still sense the danger in it. "Mind you, rainbow.. I don't do pleasure, pain gives me pleasure." he paused for a while before continuing. "You think you can fit in with that?" his tone was hellish, yet also playful, like a cat toying with it's prey. There was something mischievous about the way he spoke and at the same time, there was something menacing.
Jena found herself swallowing so hard as she felt a shiver of fear run down her spine. How could a normal, breathing human being derive pleasure from pain? And why did he even talk about pleasure in the first place? Did he really have to go that far? She was literally just talking about maybe a simple office punishment that he could give her as her boss but it seemed to have taken the conversation into a much darker direction.
When Jena was left with no option than to reply, she said, "Of course sir" she forced out a reply. "But may i ask you something?" her eyelids fluttered as she asked.
"Sure..." he replied.
"You said pain gives you pleasure... Does pleasure give you pain too?" Jena retorted.
"Pleasure and pain are two different things rainbow and like i earlier said, I don't do pleasure. Pretty sure i made myself clear enough."
She sat there in silence, squeezing her pretty precious teddy ms snuggles gently as she tried to come up with a reply. She was down for this conversation. Honestly she enjoyed Lucien's company quite alot but she couldn't find the proper words to say to him sometimes.. Like right now.
Frankly, leaving her boss hanging on the line on the other hand shouldn't be an option so she knew she had to say something.
"And the pain? What kind of it were you referring to?"
That was all she could come up with.
She wasn't even sure whether her answer corresponded with his previous statement. She simply responded because she couldn't think of anything else to say.
Though she was also curious to learn about the nature of his kind of pain.
"I won't tell, rainbow. If you want to know I guess you'll have to find out yourself."
"How exactly would i do that sir?" She managed to ask.
"One word, feel. Two words, feel it." he paused for a moment, then continued. "I can make you feel it, well of course, only if you want to."
Jena felt her lips twitch slightly. All she simply wanted was to know the kind of pain he was talking about but now, look where that got her. Although, one way or the other she found herself kinda intrigued by his response.
"Would you like to feel it?" he asked and Jena's eyes widened as she heard him.
"Ye.. yes sir?" she replied without any second thoughts.
'How bad could it be?'
A slightly mocking laugh was heard from his end. She wasn't surprised at all. She too couldn't believe what she just mouthed. Somehow, she always seemed to lose control of her words whenever she was with this particular man.
Everything always felt so hazy and uncertain so long as he was involved, and she always ended up acting in that same way. It was as if he brought out an entirely different side of her.
"Oh get ready then, rainbow. But remember, no one made this choice for you." his voice was smooth and seductive.
She involuntarily felt a chill run down her spine. How unfortunate was it for her that even over the phone he still had such a powerful impact on her. She couldn't help but curse under her breath.
A beep sounded from Lucien's phone, indicating that he had received a message. He quickly scaled through it before abruptly ordering Jena to "Go downatairs" and without giving her a chance to respond, he ended the call.
There he was being mercurial again.. Jena sighed.
