Still wearing that wicked smirk that adorned his face perfectly, Lucien gently lifted his hand to her hair and ran his fingers slowly through her smooth blond hair.
"I don't even think I can ever get attracted to you rainbow." His deep, seductive voice echoed.
Jena's eyes narrowed as she caught a gleam flicker through his eyes.
But she unexpectedly felt motivated by his words. She had wanted to retrieve what she said, but hearing his question now changed everything.
How could he even say such?
"I know you can sir, because I am irresistible.. the irresistible Jena White" She huffed and her cheeks flushed at the statement she just made.
Lucien's expression abruptly shifted once again and a faint chuckle escaped from his lips as he ran his long fingers through her hair one last time.
"We'll see about that" He let go of her chin and flashed her a dangerous smirk.
"Your time starts now rainbow." He uttered and stormed out of the room.
Jena cursed once again.
As she snapped back to reality, she noticed the goosebumps standing on her skin. Her very own words started echoing all over in her head and it made her curse even harder.
Now she was left wondering where all that courage came from. Maybe it was from all the heap of praises her best friend always showered on her.
Her mood quickly shifted as she remembered the kind of person Lucien was. One who wasn't easily convinced. And he always seemed to enjoy making things more difficult for her.
She was so frustrated with herself for this. She couldn't believe how much of a blabber mouth she was when it came to him and just how much she let him affect her. Just thinking about it was already giving her a splitting headache.
'Everyone is capable of changing right?'
'Come on, Jena! don't stress your brain cells over this. I'm sure he was just kidding when he said that.'
She immediately hissed out at how cowardly she was thinking.
Her own thoughts were letting her down. They had turned negative instead of turning positive and everything she had said started having an opposite effect on her.
She solely wished it was possible to turn back time and unsay every word she said.
She buried her face in her palm, deep in thought and her head began to throb even more.
To soothe herself a little bit, she started imagining this scenario of herself, trying to make Lucien fall for her and Lucien, falling for her like the most obedient kitten. The thought of it was so beautiful, so magical and so refreshing. It even got her smiling like an idiot!
"Imaginations right?"
Her entire being froze.
She found herself nearly flinching as she heard his voice.
It was him. Again! Didn't he just leave?
He was now leaned against the door, holding a bottle of wine in his left hand and a wine glass in his right. He effortlessly poured a bit of the wine into the glass without sparing her a glance.
"What got you smiling like an idiot?" He nonchalantly took a sip of the wine in his glass.
Jena felt a bit embarrassed by the question. And the way he was leaned, his tone and everything, made it clear that he was trying to mock her.
Clearing her throat, she proceeded. "Sir, I was just thinking about.."
"What I said earlier." He took the words out of her mouth, equally taking another nonchalant sip of his wine.
The bottle of wine was no longer seen in his possession as his left hand was now placed inside his trouser pocket and his right leg perfectly crossed over the left.
"No.. Maybe yes but.."
"How interesting do you think it will be when the player ends up getting played?" His icy blue eyes were now fixed on her. "Pretty intriguing right?" He asked and took another graceful sip.
Damn! Even the way he sipped his wine was so damn hot.
"Yes , sir... But I think that's only gonna happen when the player doesn't know how the cards are being drawn." Jena replied, earning a nod from Lucien.
"Impressive" He nodded and raised his glass like he was trying to make a silent toast.
"Get back to work now rainbow. You have alot of catching up to do" He added and stormed out.
Jena was left in awe.
She was confused about what exactly he meant by 'when the player ends up getting played'. Was she the player? Or was he the player? What did he really mean by that?
She thought her only role was to make him fall in love but now, it seemed like he had other things in store.
Well, that was the only way she could interpret his words, but it still didn't make any sense to her. Why on earth would he want to make her fall in love with him?
She felt really puzzled, unable to wrap her finger around what could be going on in his head. But then, something clicked her mind.
His mysterious rules...
Could there be a connection?
