"I'm afraid not." Guest says, getting in front of us all as Trigon attempts to grab me. The grip Holden has around my waist tightens.
"And who are you?" Trigon asks tilting his head to the side.
I stay in place, partly because I was too weak to even move.
"Just follow me as quietly as you can okay? Guest can keep him distracted." Holden whispers into my ears. I don't dare turn my gaze from Trigon. I shake my head slowly, "I'll try." I rasp.
"I have sworn an oath..." Guest began, and I feel a light touch around my waist, urging me to move silently backwards. And I obliged.
Holding my breath, I signal Jax to hide; which he does. We succeed and are able to retrace our steps silently to the kitchen.
"There's a backdoor here." Holden says, grabbing a bag pack and stuffing some food, snacks and the necessities we could need. Those that were available.
"How long do you think he can hold him off?" I ask, disturbed by the sudden silence which had swallowed up the entire house.
"I don't know." He replies, bag pack slung over his shoulder.
"get out of my way!" We both hear Trigon yell and a ground shaking thud follows suit.
Holden rushes to my side and grabs my hand.
"We need to leave now." He said, taking me deeper into the kitchen.
At the dark corner of the room, was a heavy metal door. He pulled it open, and stretched a hand toward me. Before taking it, "where's Jax?" I ask as I grasp it.
"In my bag pack." He says, pulling me out and ensuring he shuts tthe heavy metal door behind us both.
"Can you run?" He asks, still holding unto my hand as he stares into my eyes.
"I can, but I'm afraid I'm low on energy as well." I say, before putting my thoughts together there's a loud bang against the heavy metal door.
"No time to think, I'll carry you." He says, and before I can object he gathers me in his arms.
Just as he takes off, the metal door bursts open and followed by a loud heavy vengeful cry.
I clung unto Holden as tight as I can, burying my head in his chest.
That was when I realized, he was running faster than an average human. If not faster than a diving bird at the sight of a prey.
I don't let go, until he slows down.
By the time he does, I loosen my grip and release my breath. I slowly lift my head from his chest, looking around to access my surroundings.
It was night time, and we were surrounded by trees all around. Perhaps we were in a forest. Holden remained static, still holdinng unto me like his life depended on it as he panted.
"You can put me down now." I say softly, staring at him. He turns his face suprised before blinking. "Oh, sorry." he says, putting me down softly on a rock.
It was dark, except for the fire which burned in the middle.
"Jax started the fire." He says, dropping his bag pack beside him before turning his gaze to the fire. After handing me a snack.
"where's he now?" I ask softly, voice hoarse.
"Out collecting more wood." came his simple reply.
There's silence for a while, and neither of us attempt to break it. I stare down at my hands and inhale as deeply as I possibly could.
"you're not human." I say as quietly as I could muster.
"Neither are you." he says without turning to me.
"no, I'm not. But you're different." I add, looking up to see him alreading staring at me.
"I'm not human, I don't know what I am either. I'm dangerous Mystic." he says, voice low.
"Trigon... he had... the lady... I.. I..." I sigh in shame as I lower my head.
"I'm sorry. You lost your mother... because.. because of me." I add guilt evident in my voice.
"It's not your fault, she didn't want to live anyway." he says, throwing some stones into a near by bush. My heart drops.
"why?" I ask curious.
"bad memories Mystic, they never truly let anyone live in peace. Perhaps, that was her way of gaining peace." Holden adds, throwing one more stone into the bush.
"bad memories of what?" I ask.
"you mean of who," came his reply as he gathered up more stones.
"of my father, and I suggest those memories stay that way." he says, throwing the last stone with much effort and anger. I open my mouth to utter something ; as usual Jax swoops in.
I don't push it.
"Did I miss anything?" Jax asks, staring at both of us. I'm quiet.
"no, you didn't." Holden says, not looking at any of us.
I turn to Jax and give him a pleading gaze.
"alright." he says seconds later, instantly understanding my plight.
I heave out a heavy sigh, shifting my gaze to the stars.
Perhaps, my life wasn't hell after all. Turns out there are people who's life could be even worse than hell. And I was about to find out who they were.
