It turns out there's a lot about my life I wasn't aware of. Myst wasn't telling lies, she indeed is my twin sister, but we weren't identical. Our parents, there were of different worlds. Yet, they chose to be together regardless of the circumstances.
Things aren't fully clear to me right now at the moment. Why was she a mermaid? Could she shift into a human? Why can't I turn into a mermaid? Who are the bluebloods? What caused the war and why? Most importantly, how do I stop them?
These questions, soon slowly turned into worries for me. I didn't know when to begin. I had just lost my grandpa, and soon after a demon god named Trigon comes after my life.
I drag my hands in my hair, ignoring the streaks of blue running through it. A frustrated sigh escapes my lips, and I release a groan of annoyance before dropping to my knees in my chamber. "This is bad..." I whisper with my eyes shut, before opening them again.
"Demons are after me," I begin as I stand on my feet. "Trigon, seems to know me in and out." I note eyes going slightly wide.
"Grandpa was attacked during his journey, and they even tried to kill me." Then I pause midway, a hand under my chin as a memory flashes before my eyes. "Someone had saved me, protected me... but who was it?" I question thoughtfully, just then Grandpa's final words echo into my mind. Cutting through my mind like a sharp edged sword.
'She's never met her dad before, so please don't ruin the image she has of him.'
My entire body goes completely still as I remember these words. The stranger who had saved me, could grandpa have known him? Or perhaps was he someone whom I knew but couldn't recognize?
I kept on racking my head as these thoughts flooded my head, causing Myst's words to echo painfully loud in my head once again. All while grief and helplessness washed over me.
'Both our parents are of entirely different worlds, and different people. Our father a human, and our mother a blueblood. Our father Jonathan, wanted to investigate about some strange creatures, and suddenly he was attacked. Mother saved him, but it took months for him to recover. When he did, he wanted to return back to his father, but then he found out he had died. He wasn't human anymore, he was revived as a blueblood, as one of them, but he still maintained his humane form.
He soon got to know that the people on land, had already declared him dead. He tried to recover from this shock, which caused him to loose his smile. Mother was the only one who could help him regain his smile again. They both fell unknowingly in love, and soon got married regardless of the objections of the people. The people of the waters refused to be ruled by a mere mortal human, and the same reason for the humans. Thus; they got father murdered. Our mother, despite being shattered, ruled the seas with a icy cold hand and a stone heart. Yet, the wizards betrayed us all, and helped Trigon destroy the bluebloods without realizing so.'
I could still remember the pain and sadness which clouded her eyes as I had stared into them, while she told me this. There was utter pain, and helplessness in them. But still, I couldn't bring myself to trust her until I knew the entire truth. This time, I would stop at nothing to uncover the secrets, mysteries; and puzzles around me to get to the bottom of this. Even if I have to stay away from my sister to achieve this, I will.
The next few hours were uneasy for me. I kept struggling to sleep in the sheets, I was restless and my thoughts weren't making things easier. I was so restless, I don't realize when I fall into a deep slumber.
---
I open my eyes slowly, the faint reflection of the sun's rays catching my eyes. My visions were still a bit hazy, it almost looked like I was surrounded by water.
Wait...
I shoot my eyes open, bolting upright, all traces of sleep gone.
Water? I'm surrounded by water?!
Just as I was about to panic, it dawned on me that I wasn't drowning. I was currently sitting upright on a bed, in a chamber, in my new home underneath the seas. I release a sigh of relief, falling back to the bed. Exhaustion and relief washing over me. I had briefly forgotten about the incidents which had happened during the past few days.
The moment I close my eyes, the door to my chamber flings open. I open them again lazily, turning my head in the direction of the entrance to my chamber. My eyes go wide, and I instantly sit upright, "Myst? What are you doing here?" I ask. She had a blank look, as though she was expecting me to know what this whole commotion was all about.
However, the confused look on my face falls off when my eyes land on the maidens behind her. Oh no.
"There is no way..." I start, but she stops me with a small smile. "You have to, an important meeting with the King is in a few minutes. They will help you get ready in the appropriate manner. Moreover, you don't have your clothes here, so you have to wear the clothes you are given. You have no choice." She says softly, and my shoulders slump in defeat. She was right, I had no choice.
She nods her head at the two mermaids who had escorted her to my chambers. They bow their heads in submission before making their way to me.
"See you soon." Myst says, then she swims out my chambers. How was she able to swim in my room? I guess there was still a lot I had to understand. My thoughts get disrupted as the two mermaids pull me towards the inner chambers, to help me get ready.
It takes approximately twenty to thirty minutes with the help of both the mermaids assistance to get ready for the meeting. They were quick, I'll give them that. As I stared into the mirror, I couldn't recognize myself for a moment. I had to touch my face for a second time to remind myself it was me, and no one else. I couldn't see the old Mystic who had struggled with high school and depthless emptiness... I could only see a princess. I could only see a blueblood, my true identity.
"Do you like it?" a soft voice asked from my left, I blink at my reflection. Then turn my head in the direction of the voice, "Yes... Yes, I do." I say, my voice hoarse. I couldn't help but observe her features carefully, before I zoned out. She had a beautiful golden brown hair, which she had braided like a crown. It was decorated with various colors of seashells which made it look like she had used flowers instead. Her pale golden eyes seemed to shimmer and glisten, and her rose lips split in a wide grin. I couldn't help but feel warm because of that.
"What's your name?" I ask her softly, she seemed to be taken aback by that question, but replies nonetheless with her head lowered. "Crystal." She said. I nod in acknowledgement, she does sparkle like one.
"Your majesty, its almost time for the meeting. You should leave soon." I hear a deeper yet calm voice call from behind. I stare at the mermaid, as she bowed through the mirror. I hum in reply, before getting to my feet. I gesture to Crystal to lead the way, before following suit.
"Who was she?" I suddenly ask Crystal, if she was surprised she doesn't show it.
"Sage." she says simply, her shiny sea green tale moving strongly in the water as she swam ahead. I hate to admit, but it does look beautiful.
"We have both been assigned to take care of you and whatever you need." She adds, drawing back my attention without realizing it. I nod in approval even though she can't see me.
Soon, she come to a halt, and I peer ahead. If this was a meeting room, it didn't look like one. It was beautifully decorated with weeds and seashells. Making it look natural yet beautiful. There were shell like seats at the opposite sides of the walls. The throne at the center, with Myst right beside it. Crystal leads me to a seashell right beside the throne. I sit quietly, observing my environment. That's when my eyes land on Holden, he was sitting directly opposite to me. Relief washed over me, I finally found someone I was familiar with.
Just then an ear piercing sound echoes through the chamber. All the mermaids present get to their feet, rather tails. Including both Holden and I. It was a horn and it was announcing the arrival of the king. My curiosity was growing stronger, especially when I noticed Kylan wasn't present yet.
What could have held him back? And most importantly, who is the King?
