Chapter 26 - Myst

The great sea had looked bottomless from shore, but as we dived deeper.... It seemed to not only have a bottom, but also an entire world hidden in its depths.

I couldn't help the amazement that I feel as colourful jellyfishes of different sizes, swim past us. Glowing like moving streaks of a rainbow.

Up ahead, I could spot a school of fish. If the jellyfishes were beautiful then this was heavenly. They were a wonderful blend of colours, like the perfect mix of contrasting personalities all at once.

A small smile graces my lips as Kylan leads us past them. Swimming through some extremely tall sea weeds, with blinding darkness. After some painful seconds of squinting my eyes, blue light, beautiful and magnificent comes in view.

We keep on swimming towards it until an elegant looking castle comes in view.

Elegant was a too small word for it, but that was all I could think of to describe it.

A small gasp escapes my lips as I observe the details of the castle closely. Its entire frame was blue, blending in with the colour of the sea. Perhaps that was why it hadn't been discovered by divers yet. The closer we swam towards the palace, the brighter the blue light it emitted. I can't stop staring, even when I realise the roofs of the castle were made of delicate glass. Yet somehow, they with- stood the oceans current and tides.

Interesting.

The moment we arrive at the palace entrance gates which seemed to be made of blue sapphire, the guards bow.

My eyes widen as I take a closer look at the guards. They were half human and... half fish. The look in their eyes completely looking inhumane. I thought they only existed in myths and fiction , but never in the real world. But here they were, I was staring at real life mermen. I couldn't belive it.

"Welcome home, Mystic" Kylan says, once the heavy sapphire gates are pulled open and we are led inside.

Was this some kind of nightmare or bad dream I was having? I ask my self.

But then again, the masculine hand in mine which currently belonged to Holden told me otherwise.

We are led by a merman which looked like the head of the guards at the gate or something. Soon, we are in a large chamber in the palace. The walls around the chamber seemed to all be designed to meet at the centre of the roof. Almost like they extended to the sky and met at one point. At the heart of it, was a beautifully decorated throne chair. Outlined with silver and shell designs. Its colour royal blue which seemed to shine from a distance.

Seated on it, was an elegant looking mermaid. Her neon coloured tail cutting through the water in small swings. Her shoulders down to her chest were covered in beautiful rune designs. And a beautiful neon coloured shirt. Which looked more like a crop top.

Her hair, were sky blue which reminded me of the sky. And her eyes held warmth. Her eyes, I realised were royal blue in colour.

The merman seemed to be leading us towards her, which I found unsettling. No matter how much I tried to shake it off, it seemed like her eyes were settled on me.

The closer we got, the more I noticed the trident in her left hand. With thick ancient writings like runes on its surface. The other hand on the handle of the throne. Her eyes hinted danger, familiarity and warmth all at once.

"Welcome, to my humble home." Her voice echoes off the walls, creating tension in the chamber. Kylan walks to her side and stays there. The merman whom had led us here, takes a bow and is dismissed by the wave of a hand.

I blink at the amount of power she possessed. I narrow my eyes at her, before taking a step towards the throne away from Holden's warmth.

"Who are you?" I ask softly, still staring her down. She gives me a cold smile which sends chills down my spine.

"I'm the queen of the bluebloods and your sister, Myst." She says, cocking her head to the side.

I still and could feel Holden tense at my side too.

Sister?

What was going on?
